Giving you an insight into all things BADMINTON! - Sport
Following on from last week’s video on serving in men’s doubles, this week is all about the return of serve! Hopefully you find these videos useful as we give lots of actionable tips throughout (and maybe your partner might find it useful too - so why not share it with them 😜)
We’ve got some exciting videos coming up, including the final Men’s Doubles video in this series and also a giveaway (👀) so make sure you smash the subscribe button so you don’t miss them!
Finally, a shoutout to the German Badminton Assocation for letting us film this video on the practice courts in the Hylo Open arena as we missed our flight back home (and therefore missed our usual CZcams filming slot 😆)!
any plans to make a video on the return of the return of serve? not much resources on it😢
I honestly want u guys to make a video about 3 big strats in every game mode
Like Mens singles Women Singles Mens Doubles Womens Doubles Mixed doubles
Guys I saw yous yesterday at your match and yous played really well and deserved the win
Got sum cheeky pics
1q
A queen

Unfortunately it was just for this one video, but it was so nice to film in there 😍
@@BadmintonInsight I loved this type of video even if this for once
And I will keep supporting you guys
You guys help me improve my game so much you guys can't even imagine how much I improved in the last 2 months
Can u buy a batmitton racket
For me😊
This video is so great! The part at 6:50 where you explained the spaces around the court opening up after using certain kinds of return and their impact on both of the opponents is so insightful. This might have been the video I've been waiting for!
Also your adjustment to intermediate level, where people are often not explosive enough to play everything downwards, is very helpful!
One tip I can give to these players is practice your flick returns. The better you get at returning flick returns, the further forward you can stand, which is probably the biggest factor in playing a good Doubles return 👍
its always mind blowing to think how much time and effort spent in your videos, amazing job!
Ah thank you so much 😃🏸
Awesome work by both of you.
Love the passion and energy. Last few months, I’ve given up badminton. But watching your holistic videos has rekindled the passion for the game 🎊 🎉kudos ❤
Keep up the good work
Keep inspiring Badminton 👍🏽

Bro i was just checking to find new badminton video and i saw this

Just came back from the National Indoor Arena and what a match you guys had! Big congratulations to you for winning the tournament. Greg's reaction after winning was the best part. You deserve that win! 😁🥇
Ah no way! Thanks a lot 😀 Yes we were very happy to get the win!!
This channel is a gem the most useful video for me is the return of serve videos man trust me those helped a lot gl and hf for the future
Thanks! I was playing earlier today and I realised this was something I could improve on. Nice video!

This video really helped me out yesterday, thanks!
Your tips really help me out. Thanks
Would’ve loved this 2 hours ago, just got back from a tournament 😅
I knew some of these but some info like coordinating w ur partner was very helpful - thx as always ❤
Excellent explanation. Thank you :)
Now it is time to practice!
All your videos are excellent. Please continue the great work,

Excellent video guys, you guys are honestly the best. You have helped me improve immensely with content that people would pay lots of money for but you guys are caring and share with us for free. Keep it up guys, love you both❤
Thanks a lot 😄😄
Really great follow up to last week's lesson and plenty to work on. On a production front, the dark background for ghe commentary works very well indeed.
Thanks a lot Drew! Yes it looked pretty good right! Maybe we need a black curtain where we normally film 😜
This is a brilliant video, it is really helping my game a lot. Thanks SO MUCH for spending the time to do this.
That’s great to hear! You’re very welcome 😀😀
Great great video, helped a lot 👌✅

This was very useful info for my badminton practice, i have my finals for our team draft picking this Saturday and i need to practice on my returns on doubles since I’m a doubles player.
Thanks a lot for your channel!! That's fantastic for ny players
Being a fan of urs for a long time,ur videos helped me immensely, specially this one as I’m weak with my service returns. Thanks cheers from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Probably the best channel for Badminton especially for doubles ❤️
Thank you so much!

I really needed this. I can also educate my partner on this topic now😀
Hey, did you mention. Brace yourself, this is going to be a video which is loaded with information.
But, on a serious note. This was much needed and much appreciated. I'll keep coming back to it while I try to practice 1 at a time.
Thank you so much for making this one. Loads of love 💕💕
Haha sorry we forgot to mention that! Definitely take 1 at a time, the video will be here forever so keep coming back as much as you like 😀
@@BadmintonInsight ♥️♥️
Gonna have my first match today so this and last weeks videos have appeared just one the right time for me! 😀
Good luck!
hi, first of all, love all your videos, and just want to say that you're my favorite badminton youtube channel. I wanted to ask if you could make a video where you show us how to hit forehand shots on the backhand rear court and the steps with the rotation and footwork and how to get back to the middle or front, and the pace that it should be done in both doubles and singles, and also when to take that shot vs a backhand
Thanks!!
OMG thanks for the video great effort no words to say
Thank you so much 🤗
Great video as always! Just a simple suggestion. Maybe you can pinpoint with circle on the court where exactly we should return the shot for a clearer understanding. Cheers from a fan who improved a lot by your channel!
6:25 is a must watch!!
Congrats on your win against the Danish pair earlier today! Unfortunately did not get to see it but I will get to see you play live in the finals tomorrow. I will be supporting you from the stands and as always good luck! I'll try my best to get a photo or an autograph if the chance arises. 😜👍
My favorite video so far has to be the "how to smash". Whenever I lose my smash, I rewatch that video and always go right back to smashing well again! I always gain new insight on this sport and improve my game!
Nice content. Love it. You have given me the confidence in past videos to stand close to the line for receiving. Has improved my game a lot. Also quick feet to get that flick to a smash is an awesome feeling. With this video now i also know what to do afterwards. Thnx 👍
Wow thank you so much Ward, that's awesome to hear 😃
Thank you 👍
amazing i like it
I love to see videos about shoulder injury and knee injury and use of knee brace and knee tapping
I absolutely loved this (as well as your other) video. great explanation and I will definitely keep this in mind my next game. Do you have any tips on how to get a really tight low serve? I find that my serves are, although alright, not tight enough and I'd really like the shuttle to go down as soon as it is over the net. If I do succeed in this then it often falls short, meaning there was just insufucient power/speed behind the shot and if I add more power or try to add a little bit of speed I lose the effect that I want. Thanks in advance for any replies (whoever that may be)
Flawless stuff! 👏
Thank you 🙌
Awesome work, 👌
Thanks ✌️
Love the videos can you please make a video on reading the game to get a tactical advantage?
Hey guys, this viedo is VERY IMORTANT for intermediete players because i always end up hitting the tap in the net when the opponent serves and!! I'M A VERY BIG FAN ofyour channel and your game also. all the best for future tournaments (you played FRICKING AMAZING IN THE HYLO S E R I O S L Y)
Ps - Unknown31!!!
Ah thank you so much Unknown 😜 Very kind of you and your support means a lot!
@@BadmintonInsight Yep!
Nice video guys❤
Amazing video as usual, really great tips on reasons and execution. The area of uncertainty placement is very annoying to play against 😂.
Thank you so much 😃 Glad we can help!
great tips!
Thank you 🥳
Thanks for your videos! They really have helped me improve - I think a really good video would be how to ask your fellow badminton players for tips - I play at a club and it would be great to get constructive criticism and advice from my fellow players but it can be hard to ask and know what to ask too
You gave that "flat face" racket tip before... it's really effective by the way!!! :) :) :) Definitely improved my net shots...
Great tips! Although personally I tend to stay about 3/4 way to the service line and closer to the middle of the court since my movement sucks and it's hard for me to return a flick or drive serve. 3/4 way to the service line is my sweet spot right now since I have enough time to react to either of those serve while I always return low serves without sacrificing too much quality of shot (I'd say about it's 80-90% quality) unless it's obviously short.
Confidently staying near the service line is one of my goals this year :)
Edit 1: I think in a non competitive environment (regular play without tournament/reward/contest etc.) it also baits the other team into playing a serve to where I am opposite at 🤣. I mentioned I position myself 3/4 of the way to the service line and lean towards the center so most serves I receive is a low serve or a flick serve opposite of my position. This kinda helps me since I can kind of predict that they will serve there and also help me improve my movement since i'll be moving to the opposite side fast 😄
Yooo?? You guys got a new mic?
It is soooo crisp
And ur editing is getting top notch and the camera quality is INSANE
GGs guys
Ah thank you so much Sam! We filmed this video at the Hylo Open tournament and their set-up was so nice, and there wasn't any echo in the hall 😍 We're trying to find ways to improve the audio/reduce the echo where we regularly film though!
cool tips thank u
You’re welcome 😀
Thanks
Wow thanks Minesh (again!) 😃🤗
Thank you for the great level of details! I am confused by which leg should move first when returning to serve. It seems some players move the front leg by a step while others move the back leg 1st. Which one is better?
Thanks good stuff... Is the straight return a high risk shot 'cos the person that served could have their racket up ready?
Great video, would love to see same for top deceptive returns which may also be useful if not over done.
We’ve recently made a video on these 😀
Great video! I think it would have been interesting to highlight who we should be looking at. I had to rewind a few times because I was accidentally focusing only on the player with their backs to the camera.
Great video! The thinking for where the serve returner should move after hitting drive up the middle return is one of the few situations where I always felt like I wasn't in a good spot. Now I see why, I was staying in the middle, I will try moving back to protect a side after this one and see if I get some more intercepts, or make it easier for my partner to know where they should be moving. Thanks a bunch!
wow you are shooting this video at uni of nottingham jubilee campus!!! i am studying here too hopefully can meet u guys one day!
Congrats on the Irish Open win!
Thanks Kelvin 😀
Nice Video again!!! 🙂, beside the tactical things, which are very helpfull, i laughed out loud for your trainingpartners shoes.🤣🤣 Time (7.03)
Haha well noticed! We just asked him to serve for the demonstration after the session 😂
My favorite video is the 7 types of drop shots.
Some video ideas
1.Can you guys do a video on different types/variations of smash shots
2.Can you guys do a video on hand signals and communication in doubles and how to do them?
Unsure if you've covered but a "types of flick serve return" would be great!
Could you guys do a video on the mental side on badminton?
you are my favourite badminton channel👍👍💓
Ah so kind of you 🤗
thank you 💓💓, you are so helpful for me
It's really nice to see tactics like this. Could you make a similar video for mixed doubles? Wich of these do you think could I use right away?
They already have!
hai, i want to suggest you to make a video analysis about some of the player, example lee chong wei, lindan and etc
Wow nice video.👍👍👍
Thanks! 😃
Loving the sliders from Weekes there 😂
A quick recap would be good, in the end
Together you look good somuch you make good each other ❤️❤️
Great video, thanks. I would however appreciate if you refer the team either standing close to camera (ideally) or away from camera all the time, to exemplify what you are saying. Sometimes it's confusing to know which team you are referring to. Thanks
I will work on this in women's double. I think this will up me and my partners game :D
Practising these tomorrow.
As I'm a senior, playing with other seniors a fast flat clear to corners tends to make them stand back more. Then the mid court slow push starts to really puts pressure on.
To commenter "meekins", If you can do a fast flat clear as a return to a low serve then you must be a real magician able to do the impossible, 'cos a clear is a shot played when the shuttle is high and from the back of the court.. Maybe you mean a lift. I wonder if there is any material out there for beginner badminton players that teach them correct terminology so they know the difference between a lift and a clear , and many beginners mix up between a drop and a net shot.. I find a lot of beginner badminton players mix their terms up.
@@boliusabol822 Apologies for my misuse of language. However as you will not I use the word FLAT so this cannot be a lift. Perhaps I should have used the word push or drive as better describing the shot. Whenever I play this shot it is rarely even above head height. Also please note not many 'beginners' have won regional titles in Spain in both singles an doubles. I'm just an old player who can sometimes mix up words.
I want to really improve my game near the nets and really not sure what should I try to see some easy improvements I feel either I am a bit late or too early sometimes for play around the net
I was just wondering if I can ask you a question I am a couch here I have been playing badminton for a lot of time .all this time I have a attacking play style it is 100% like Lzj I do smash like Lzj from anywhere in court and body is same but my couch says that you should change your attacking style to players like ginding who are fast and attack when behind shuttle and like ginding but I am feeling very hard changing and I feel my old style is good but problem is I am 175 cm and Lzj is 185 6.1 and I am 5.85 so should I continue attack like Lzj or chnage to ginding
Well done in irish open! :)
Thanks Chris 😀😀
Hi plzz plzz suggest me best protein supplement for badminton player
Favorite video is why is Zheng siwei/Huang Yaqioang so good
Can you guys make a video how to defend a net kill
Hi Greg and Jenny. Love the work you put out for us who wants to imrpove at badminton and i have just one question which you might have a tip to help with. I know you wanna stand as close to the server line as possible but what do i do if they do a flick serve ? It feels like i never have time to reach it and that they just get a free smash or good return of that because of the lack of blalance when hitting the shuttle behind.
Thank you so much! We'd recommend checking out this video of ours: czcams.com/video/wbjlCuBK6mo/video.html
It's old and hopefully we've improved our camera presence haha, but the content is hopefully still useful!
One of my issues is that have a reasonably low receive stance (does help a bit with drive serves) and when approaching the net I stay too low hence it's harder to get 'on top' of the shuttle to play it downwards. (Need to rise up a bit e.g. look at how Kevin plays his deceptive return)
Too many years with a bad habit...but at least I know the problem and can *try* to address it!
In singles, while serving is it necessary for the receiver to stand close to service line and middle line??
Is there any rule for the recipient positioning while receiving the serve ??
Hello Greg and Jenny, thanks for the upload. Sometimes i really have a bad day and nothing works. Can we have video to mentally refresh ourselves after a bad session.
Thanks for the suggestion Karthik! In the meantime, we'd recommend watching the 'mental training' videos we made last year: czcams.com/play/PL6bpt8HeVN_-lmWvKzVen7oE8IIppmDwv.html
Ensure you have had enough sleep the night before.
Hello! Since you already analysed Viktor Axelsen could you please analyse LCW for all the shorter people out there.
