If you really boil it down Chaos in 40k is basically the insecurities, fears, and secretive dark desires of all sentient life made into a physical form.
Which is actually one of the most appealing aspects of 40k for me, that in essence we created our own monsters. If those that came before had been more responsible, and had more foresight we wouldn't be stuck in this mess. Almost reminiscent of real life in that aspect.

I've often thought it weird that the violent middle ages of earth were the catalyst for the formation of the first 3 gods. That seems kind of like a hangover from warhammer fantasy that should never have made its way into 40k. It doesn't make sense that the comparatively insignificant events of little old medieval earth would have any influence on anything when stuff like the war in heaven has already happened, and galactic wars between eldar and orks and such were already on going. The psychic emanations of one medieval planet's worth of people, no matter how violent, would be barely a drop in the ocean next to those veritable oceans of slaughter involving tens of thousands or millions of planets worth of individuals.

One thing I don't understand is the weird relationship between Chaos Space Marines/Warbands and Daemons.
Why are Daemons hostile to them? Even if they worship the same Chaos god. and why at other times do they cooperate with each other?
also, I think it should also be made clear that not everyone that fell to Chaos, fell willingly. Some were tricked, such as the Thousand Sons, and others like the Death Guard were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some human even worship Chaos and don't even realize they are doing it until its too late
To give a long, but simple answer: because madness is always contradicting itself. It would not be Chaos, if it´s followers weren´t chaotic. They are hostile to each other because, to quote one of the greater daemons of Tzeentch, "the Gods of the Warp require them to", just as they require every other faction to be violent and hostile, wrecking havoc upon their enemies and one another, leaving only anarchy in their trail. It´s all part of the Greater Game; the Ruinous Powers feast upon the conflicts of every mortal, be it their followers or their enemies.
They can, however, forge alliances with one another, for personal gain ... or while just following a whim. You can´t predict the Chaos, thus the option of forming alliances must be possible. If not, Chaos worshippers would become predictable.
In other instances, Chaos can become predictable, because no one would predict that they would be predictable. Abaddon´s Black Crusades are a good example. They are almost like seasons of wether; heck, how many times did he try to conquer the imperium already? 17 times? Can´t remember anymore, damn often at least.
Last but not least, the worshippers of Chaos try to impress their daemonic patrons by commiting violent and .... otherwise sinister acts I don´t want to describe further. They fight among themselves to proof their worth to the Ruinous Powers. And, of course, to entertain these dark masters, like gladiators in old Rom.
In essence, Chaos is selfcontradicting. It has to be. Or it could be. Or maybe, it sometimes will be, other times it won´t. Hard to tell, it´s unpredictable after all. You surely get what I´m trying to express.

Really makes me curious what the Warp would be like in other galaxies. Since it's a reflection of the sentient lifeforms there, their gods might be of completely different natures, perhaps even benevolent, depending on what form their own mental states take. Hell, you'd expect there to be plenty of galaxies with pre-"War in Heaven"-like Warp states, if no events to trigger the malevolent transformation of the Warp took place in their respective galaxies. Well, unless they were visited by the Tyranids, of course. The Warp of such galaxies would probably be quite calm, stagnant, even empty.

Malus is also the chaos god of disbelief, as he was born from the universal denial of the existence of chaos by the imperium. In dark elf and dark Eldar society it is considered a great dishonor to become possessed unless you are a slave or servant. Bloodthirsters have a little psychic ability, it just comes in the form of a blood boiling scream and an axe that never dulls.

Chaos is basically what would happen if you took the armies of Mordor from LOTR and The Banished from Halo Wars 2 and combined them together. In a sense.

I wonder about the awakening of Slaanesh, if it occurred during M30 shouldn't the Emperor taken greater notice?
M30 would have put it firmly within the time of the Unification wars and the conquest of the Terran system. I mean there may not be much we could do about it but I'm pretty sure if Australia were suddenly disappear the rest of the world would go take a look to see what happened. At the very least you would think rather then letting one of the Primarchs find Cadia and the Eye of Terror he would have gone and checked that area for himself.

The problem with that is one could spend literal hours talking about the deeper philosophically aspects of Chaos in 40k.

40K Theories oh, from what i know if they join Chaos, they automatically die since Slaanesh consumes their souls. I never saw a Chaos Eldar. Iguess they would be just like the Dark Eldar

Question about CSM: If a CSM is killed by a warrior of the Imperium of Man, why does he not have his Geneseed removed to be used by Loyalist instead of being left to rot? It could be used in new Space Marines.
The Imperium believes that traitor stock will make more traitors or at least flawed warriors and in many cases now it is probably corrupted beyond all usefulness.

Most Chaos Space Marines have spent 10000 hiding out in the Eye of Terror. Thats a little like licking a nuclear reactor constantly for 10000 years. CSM gene seed is mostly too flawed and tainted to be salvaged.
The part about Chaos geneseed being "corrupted beyond usefulness" was slightly retconned into being much less likely to be useable, but still can still sometimes be viable.

Where did you did you find the lore about the origins of the Chaos Gods?
I can't seem to find the information verifying your lore on any of the various wikipedias and lexicanum. I can't find info on the War in Heaven directly causing the births of Khorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle. I heard the old lore was retconned but could not find new information on the wikis.
Last I heard, they awoke in the order of Nurgle, Khorne, and finally (allegedly) Tzeentch. This was supposedly mainly due to human shenanigans in the 2nd millennium with Slaanesh waking up far later due to Eldar murderfucking. Is this no longer the case?
If you could provide sources on where you obtained this information (as well as explain why there is an apparent disparity between this video and the wikis), then I would be rather grateful.
In regards to the order and time period of their awakening it is detailed in the book Realms of Chaos: Lost and the Damned book and also supported in the Codex Chaos 2nd edition, the order of the Gods had not been retconned from anything I could find.
In regards to the war in heaven creating them (the necron version not the craftworld version. I know its awkward when there's two separate events with the same name)
This is partially mentioned in Codex Necrons 5th edition when the war in heaven resulted in numerous warp entities being created and beginning to take form as a result from the conflict, but mentioned in more detail in the 3rd edition Necron Codex where it states that the emotions of the old ones creations (Krork, Aeldari etc) began to manifest themselves within the warp towards the end of the war in heaven, and what entities did exist within the warp had changed into new forms becoming creatures that consume souls.
It's also important to note that unless something new/recent has come out to contradict it old lore is still canon (as Gav Thorpe himself stated when he was on our podcast on Tactica Imperialis channel)

Internet Zen Master If new lore contradicts old lore, then it is a retcon that supercedes older lore, but only if said contradictory lore is confirmed as being factually canon; the canonicity of all other unconfirmed instances are left open to debate as they may be the result of poor writing or part of an attempt, deliberate or otherwise, to obfuscate the true canon.

Horned Rat because he is secretly a clone of the god emperor and created the skaven and the underempire as a corrupted image of the species and imperium he cared for after falling to his darker more chaotic side. The Skaven Underempire is a grossly exaggerated version of the imperium with the horned rat being the leader with final say over his species while only ever acting in times of great importance like the emperor along with the fact he also has his own personal throne like the god emperor. Clan Skyre is the Adeptus Mechanicus. Clan Moulder is the Adeptus Astartes due to the Rat Ogres and Stormfiends wearing power armor and wielding Astartes grade weaponry while being genetically enhanced super soldiers with strength and size being similar if not superior to the space marines. Clan Eshin is the officio assassinorum. Clan Pestilens is the ecclesiarchy. Clan Mors is the Astra Militarum. The gray seers are the inquisition, Ecclesiarchy, and Adeptus arbites as they are the main religious body of the skaven and ensure the horned rats word is followed with utmost force.
