      its good to see failures too and ngl, knowing what the "story" of the diorama was, its like the ratling tripped a security system that distorted reality in that room so in that sense it looks dope af.

      I actually LOVE how it turned out - it looks a lot more complex and intricate, and I could stare at it for hours, imagining that the bubbles and cracks are like caves (or clouds) and there is a story going on inside, compared to other diaramas that are pretty but tell the entire story at a glance. I'd sure happily keep this "failure" for inspiration! :D

    You can just imagine that the "failure" is just what opening Pandora's Box looks like. The artifact treasures inside the box had within it demonic warp tented objects and opening the treasure chest imploded. The implosion caused the Black Stone Fortress area to either transport to the warp or create a 4th like dimension. I think you could make up some interesting head cannon thoughts around this "mistake." All I would do is clean up the sides paint it black and label it 'Pandora's Box Unleashed"

    • @jensfunk8726
      @jensfunk8726 Před rokem +3

      Absolutely. I followed the video thinking about another "looky pretty nice, maybe some time i may come close to that"-result. But frankly, that unpredicted "desaster" looks so much more interesting and sparks so much more curiosity - and my first thought was also: opened the chest and now the warp takes hold at this deck. Just cool! Just finish it properly and mark it as a project that had its own ideas over yours :)

  • @Winterydee
    @Winterydee Před rokem +65

    While it is a "disaster", it is a very cool looking "disaster"!
    Side note: With any 2 part epoxy/resin pours, the larger the pour the greater the thermal output of the chemical reaction will be. This is one of the main reasons why deep pour dioramas with plastics are very rarely done until all of the plastics have been fully encased in that resin with smaller pours to protect them from melting.
    Resin is a very fickle mistress!

    When dealing with epoxy resins, thicker castings are more prone to what is known as "thermal runaway" where the chemical reaction causes a feedback loop and generates more and more heat with the neighboring volume of resin. This sort of thing can also happen if you over-catalyze the resin (adding too much catalyst/hardener) which in some cases can even start small fires.

    *TO AVOID BUBBLES AND CRACKS ON DEEP RESIN POURS* For this technique you'll need one of those horizontal garage freezers. First, seal completely your object all around with a layer of resin to make sure there are no voids, trapped air will off-gas and bubble out as the pressure and heat of the curing process will push it out, let it fully cure before moving on. Then you'll need to keep your resin in the refrigerator for 48h before pouring, let it get to 60F / 15C or so. Place your object and the mould inside the freezer before pouring. Mix the resin and degas it as normal then pour the resin and keep your freezer as cold as possible. It will probably still take a few days to cure but you can perform a single pour (no layers!) of a block about 60 x 40 x 30 cm, possibly larger. It depends on the brand of the resin of course, but I believe MAS Deep Pour was the one used.

    Chin up! It's a learning process, and sometimes things happen. At least now you know. Would like to see you try this again. I would say, not only do you want to do it in layers, but you might want to make it small enough to fit in a vacuum chamber. It would sufficiently syphon off the heat and any potential hazardous gas.

    This is great! I immediately had a storyline in my head about how two parties fighting over the treasure made them trigger a trap, causing the treasure chamber to be flooded by this hot toxic liquid, killing everyone inside, making the treasure disappear forever 🥰🥰🥰
    I hope you’re trying a project like that again!

    It's like the plunderers triggered some defence system that annihilated them, pretty cool moment frozen in time. But a real bummer it didn't turn out the way you wanted, was looking forward to this one the most!
    Still, nice video. The process was a great watch and you included a resin PSA as an added bonus.

    I've been doing resin for probably at least 5 years now and still have times like this. One of my more recent projects flash cured while pouring into essentially a frozen waterfall.

  • @thetabletopsupershow3670

    Heartbreaking for you fine folks! That thermic reaction with resin is no joke for sure! Pouring anything over 2 inches at a time is rough even with perfect environmental conditions. I have spent no small amount of time over the years doing epoxy pours ( floor coatings and back fill pours) and even at relatively shallow 1/8" pours, I have still ran into bubbling, humidity level caused cracking and leveling issues. Even Jazza, pouring at a roughly 2" depth pours, still had an issue with those pesky layer lines between pours. Getting rid of those requires precise scientific measurements of tint to as well as sanding between layers from low to very high grit to manage. The painting work you all put in was very nice! Once again, my condolences to the Tabletop Time Crew!

    I actually love this video. It just really shows the perspective of an artist. Sometimes u succeed and don't know why and sometimes you fail hard and learn a lot. Please keep on trying. I smell a redemption arc coming in ❤

    Every step of the ways was amazing and it all looked beautiful.
    I knew it didn't go right from seeing the other videos, but I didn't imagine how much.
    Whatever the result, you can be really proud of yourself for doing such an amazing work.
    (And to be honest, I think the end result can still tell a story. There were traps the adventurers didn't notice and opening the chest blew up the whole room. A TPK is never something we wish to have, but hey. It's Tabletop. It happens.)

    The work you did before the pour was amazing. I wonder what epic story could be told using the scene you created. Something horrifying happened. I bet you guys could create an amazing story based on the scene.

    I watch a lot of woodturning videos where they mix resin casting with wood. They use a special deep pour resin for anything deeper than 4 inches. The more resin you use, the hotter it gets as it cures. That heat can melt molds, or cause thermal cracking. To avoid this, you can either do thinner layers, or use the special deep cast resin, and keep it cool as it cures(like putting ice packs around the project while inside the pressure pot, or store in unheated area of workshop). That deepcast resin takes 2-3 days to cure however.

    It is sad that it did not turn out like you wanted it, but I absolutely enjoyed the video and the colaboration with the other two channels. It still has an unique effect in the glamour shots. And it tells "normal people" that resin pouring IS hard. Only success would make this pretty challenging medium look easy. I would love to see this retried.

    That's so unfortunate that this happened, but it can definitely be considered a learning experience. Not only did y'all learn something, but us Tabletop Time fans were able to learn something new about resin pouring too! I hope you give this diorama another go if y'all get your hands on another Blackstone Fortress set. I loved where this whole diorama was going and it'd be great to see it redone :) thanks for all the great content!!
