    Thanks Tom, I know you tested the range yourself however My Atto 3's getting slightly more than 400km during mixed Highway/Urban Driving. You keep mentioning 300Km which is such a huge difference when using averages. My trips were to the Southwest of Western Australia from Perth, twice. Long Highway drives of 300km with only short sections at a couple of stops to refresh. Then 2 days of urban-ish driving in smaller townships, then back to Perth. I've done 6000km overall so the car and tyres are pretty new although I had packed a few things for the trip so add about 100kg plus two adults. Anyone else getting these numbers?

    Sorry one more question; I LOVE MY BTD ATTO 3, yes it sounds like Tesla’s safety technology seems more ‘refined’ and works better. However, for me, driving, on
    country and hwy WITH CLEARLY marked lines it works well, I’m old & still like the idea of ‘driving the car and not relying on the car’s safety ‘intelligence’ , even though it’s fantastic it’s all working in the background !! I guess it’s fantastic that’s it’s all there, it comforting to know !!! Really, again for me, if on a long trip on the hwy at 110km if I started to fall asleep 💤 or start to nod off
    off or even worse, the car will keep me on the rd, vibrate and scream at me to keep safe!! (Now my phone, daughter, boss etc tells me what to do!!! Lol, ) so the question is; is it worth spending the extra $20k ????
    I started to look at a Polestars 2, a really nice drive, the repayments were $40 more than the BYD Atto3 .
    However, when you start matching apples with apples, same features, same safety technology, same real life battery capacity, it became $280 a week more than the Atto!!!!
    Buyers beware!!! it all sounds good, but you must read the “fine print”!!!!
    What is fantastic are the features & safety technology are standard in any BYD.Atto3 SO YOU DONT NEED TO SPEND THAT extra $1000 plus for every upgrade, per item, that you need to do with other models.. the only thing you get to select is a standard or extended range battery apart from that every ad Atto3 has it all at no extra cost STANDARD!!
    👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 thanks again for your time🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

      @graememills7778 Před rokem +1

      😂 It just seems like you need to silence the notifications on your phone etc, and politely tell your back seat drivers to be quiet.. 😊
      I agree seems ridiculous that brands like Polestar make you pay around $6k just to get safety features that are included on other models.
      I agree with your sentiment that people should research their cars but at the end of the day they will choose the car they want based on their own criteria.
      Important to note however that that the quality of safety features and how they operate between brands varies so it’s two different points really (1.having it, 2. how good it operates) and in some instances the higher price could be justified.

      Even high use ones - the extra cost is a disincentive to non-Tesla users unless they really need to use that charger, and if they do, fine. And if this model works for Tesla, non-Tesla money spent at their Superchargers will drive them adding both new booths and new locations. It's a win-win to (gradually) open their network up to all users, at a fee.

      Tesla doesn't have to open its chargers to other EVS. Count it a privelege when and where they do and even if they charged 80c/kWh it might still be cheaper than ICE fuel. We buy EVS for the environment and most people can source most of their electricity at more like half that.
      Tesla did the responsible thing by not just dumping EVS in Australia without investing their own money on infrastructure. Haven't seen others doing their bit!
      Tesla owners pay a premium for their cars and if the brand wants to sell electricity to others they have every right to charge above the going rate IMO.

    Great work Tom . One thing to consider is the cost . My V8 commodore on highway does about 350-400 kms per 50 litres of LPG which is about 90cent per litre so its about $25 for the 205 rang that cost $32 . So a real disadvantage for country travelling . When you are charging at home its so much cheaper and urban range is so much more the advantage is EV .. One thing the CO2 emission from an LPG car is about 30% less than petrol . Also a lot of the harmful other emissions from Petrol or Diesel are far less to non existent .

    Thank you Tom for the hard work and well done! I appreciate your advice on Tesla Gen 3. I have my BYD delivered few days ago and now consider installing a Tesla Gen 3 as the BYD portable charger is only 8amps way too slow at 1.3KW per hour. I have the single phase meter at home. You are only one of few on CZcams who has shared with us that Gen 3 will work with BYD. I’m wondering if the Wi-Fi feature will work on BYD as well? What’s the charging speed? And can I acutely adjust the charging speed, eg from 7kw down to 2Kw because I want to charge the battery using solar production much possible so I doesn’t want it too fast, of course 1.3kw is just too slow. Gen 3 is $550 only on Tesla website.

    Great Vid again Tom. Good to have real life figures. Two things of interest I noted ... 1. The price is quite high ( roughly equiv to a petrol car for the ATTO 3 ). Is that a higher price than for non-Tesla cars? 2. Seems the ATTO 3 is not that efficient ( 170-200W/km ) I get 132-145W/km in my Tesla 3 LR. So the ATTO is using approx 30% more power! I expected it would use more than the Model 3 but not by that degree.

      @LudicrousFeed  Před rokem +2

      1. See video description and pinned comment for Tesla Supercharger price at the time of video post

    • @LudicrousFeed
      @LudicrousFeed  Před rokem +2

      The inside word is that the fees charged by providers do not adequately cover the investment and maintenance needed to install charging sites ie. they would run at a loss without either gov support or a price premium on vehicles in Tesla's case to cover the cost needed. We are told that electricity produced by renewable sources is cheaper than fossil fuel ones so in a perfect world, the price of electricity should either keep pace with inflation or possibly even decrease in price.

    BTW, the proper etiquette should be to charge your vehicle at a charger that can maximize its charge speed. Leave the faster chargers open to vehicles that can actually utilize the higher speeds.
    Also, the cost per KWH is quite expensive .

If it was as high as 16 it would make the BYD fuelling cost a worry. My wife's i30 diesel which uses 5.4l/100 x $2 a litre equals 11c per km on the highway (sometimes down to 4.5). If the Atto3 used 16kWh/100 x $0.79 equates to 13c per km and if it were 20kWh/100km 16c per km or 40% more than her car.

    Reason for my question is I'm slightly worried when this takes off. Coming into a v3 supercharger wanting to top up but having to wait for a BYD hitting only 60 or 80kw.
    Also the Jag EV having the charger on the front left means they take up 2 charging stations..which is actually ridiculous. That will not be something that people will tolerate waiting for an I-pace to finish charging at its top 100kw and taking up 2 bays.

      You can’t activate charging unless you’ve set up your payment method in the Tesla app beforehand

    still waiting Y performance in OZ. My account still says Jan to March, they will reach out when they allocate a VIN.
    So all Aussie Tesla owners, how many days weeks b4 delivery did you get your VIN?
    Anyone know at what point I am legally liable for more than my $350 AUD deposit?

    I used to think I'd buy an electric vehicle after I've retired when I'll have more time. Now I think I'll wait till I'm dead.

    Great, Tesla has given away access to existing charging infrastructure for absolutely zero benefit to Tesla owners.
    Now Tesla owners can wait at busy Supercharging locations while slow BYDs, and other EV brands that have invested zero in Australian charging merely charge away. Absolutely outrageous.

      At the moment Teslas clog up public chargers even though there are Tesla chargers nearby because of the cheaper rates. This will even things up.

      And they give up on having the only reliably working network in Australia to be avaiable exclusively for their cars. I used to say if you want to travel a Tesla is the only EV to buy.....

    Ps can the power charging ever be increased ( from about 88kw) as an over the air update?? Or it’s 100% a hardware issue??
    WHEN WILL APPLE CAR PLAY BE COMING; SOON???? I read it’s possible the dealer can update it using their USB???
    Pps range anxiety is going to be a real illness in years to come!!! when that orange battery comes on so does anxiety!!!, especially when it’s 11pm at night and half the charging stations are teslas or not working, even locked locked up in Brisbane city.
    I finally found a charging that runs at a massive 4kw !!!??!! ( why would they bother making a public charger so slow!!??!! That’s ONLY nearly double my granny charger, 1.4kw )WT approx 9hrs to fully charge ( f^%*#) . after 4 hrs had 50%, which I thought would be enough to get me to Byron Bay where there’s a free NRMA fast charger (40kW) 20% to 80% approx 25mins.
    Then you go through the issue that when you have only 10% left, what happens if there’s an issue with the charging station arrrrrrrrr!! I guess really they’re bigger problems on earth 🌎 BUT ITS DEFINITELY AN ISSUE AT THE TIME LOL and really becomes in issue in emergency and they don’t happen too often🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
    Thanks again

    The real question that should be ask. How many chargers has BYD invested in countries they sell their EVs?

    • @LudicrousFeed
      @LudicrousFeed  Před rokem +1

      BYD partner with various networks eg. there's a deal with Evie networks in Australia
      But no, there's no BYD 'Supercharger' per se

    Would be good if you screen recorded your iPhone and then overlayed the video instead of trying to film the actual phone screen while you use it.
