Highlights of the Men's BMX Seeding run during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The first national mountain bike championships were held in 1983 in the USA. But the sport quickly grew in popularity in Europe and Australia. The first mountain bike World Championships, recognised by the International Cycling Union (UCI), were organised in 1990. Olympic recognition followed and mountain biking made its debut as an Olympic discipline at the Atlanta Games in 1996, with a cross-country event for men and women. The programme has remained unchanged ever since.
It was in 2008 in Beijing that BMX made its debut on the Olympic programme. BMX is one of the fastest and youngest cycling disciplines. Its principle is simple: eight riders compete on a track filled with jumps, tight bends and obstacles.

At 14 minutes into the clip, the commentators speak about rider apparel and keeping it authentic to the sport's true history. That's probably because in the early days when I raced, everyone wore motorcycle motocross gear until BMX manufacturers starting making their own stuff. Motorcycle motocross gear back then was brands like JT Racing, Bell Helmets, BW Leathers (pants), Fox, Sinisalo and the like. All those brands are still around today (except BW Leathers, made by Bill Walters). JT Racing was huge. JMC 20" and 24" bikes were made by Jim Melton - classic old school stuff. We raced through dirt berms, across tabletop jumps (flat top) and through whoopdy-doo's.

Hahahah, no mate, these bikes don'd exceed 3 kgs. Frames are made of flight grade aluminium and cranks, handle bars and forks are made of aluminium. Bikes on a pro level cost upward of $2000

haha, cant argue with that. I got a little taste of mtbing quite some time ago, you guys are crazy with those turns! also, in mtb off season try velodrome riding, keeps your fitness well up plus its very prestigious and, as boring as it is to watch, is really intense and fun :)
