  • I knew how to decode this lock in theory, but is it possible to decode it 1st time out of the pack? 🤔 And no, 0000 doesn’t count! 😁👍

    Thank you, sir. I needed a good chuckle. Such a nice way of saying, "The older one was terrible. This one only mostly bad". I've never tried decoding a combo lock, but after watching your vids, it looks like a bit of fun. Thanks for adding another layer to this hobby.

  • @EdocDab

    That won't take you as long the second time, I'm sure. 😃 But more importantly it shows how someone not too familiar with opening these still can do so too fast and indeed have your combination as well. Nice and honest video on the lock Ash. 👍

    The right lock in the right circumstances. Agreed, we use combination locks to secure our bins at work!

    I'm still building up my collection of tools and locks so I haven't tried to decode a mast combo yet but I will. Great video Lock Noob.

    I think as pickers, we are single handedly keeping master lock alive. I have a lot of masters in my collection and uncountable Americans. They must love us!

    So I have this lock. After using it twice after purchase, the code wouldn't work anymore. I thought I must have changed it by mistake. Spent the weekend trying all similar combinations and then tried your video today. I decoded it to the same code as the original code, and yet it wouldn't open. After changing some more numbers and eventually going back to the original code again, it popped open. The lock is pretty bad, it gets stuck even on the correct combo. Thanks for the video, I also actually started going through every combination and was 2400 combinations in when I gave it a try!

    Interesting use by Master Lock of the term "Pro Series" there are combi locks that aren't susceptible to this attack method, but the vast majority of the very cheapest ones are, shame on you Master Lock. Nice decoding, cheers.

    I wonder if Sparrows could come up with an ingenious spring-loaded spreader to put steady tension on the shackle during long decoding sessions? It’d have to handle a wide range of shackle lengths 🤔

    We've already established that these 4 or 5 digit dial combination locks are easy to decode with very little skill and no tools.
    The first locks I learned to open as a 13 year old were those 4 digit bicycle chains doing exactly the same thing you did here, and without any prior experience or teaching, I just wiggled a lock a bit then figured it out.
    In my opinion these are the worst style locks ever made, not just because they are easy to decode, but especially because you don't need a single tool.to do it.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Před 3 lety

      True, but some are much added to decode than others and take a degree of skill and feel to decode for sure

    Thankfully you didn't get whisked off to 1995 Lock Noob McFly.🤣.
    Also it looked like the bag with zip teeth was eating your arms 🤣.
    Do you know if that method works with combination locks that have those ball bearings on each wheel to give that click effect and centre the wheels?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Před 3 lety

      Lol. And yes, the ball bearing alter the feedback, so you have to get used to the feel of a gate or false gate as opposed to a ball bearing

    What if you used a caulking gun or a small clamp that you can open up to pull the shackle?that way you don't need to worry about pulling the shackle?😂 I'm no lock picking person but it seems like it would be handy?

    • @LockNoob

      Well actually they aren’t too bad, you just have to know when and where it’s appropriate to use their locks. Some of the Pro series are very good. They are the masters of marketing though

    It also looks like clamshell construction, and they've very helpfully left two holes in the bottom at the seam where you could use a punch to split it and the plastic sleeve open. Cheap trashy rubbish
