I think you need to renegotiate the terms of this arrangement😊. Sounds like you're doing a bigger job than sorting. You just created hundreds of dollars in value for another business. Get 50% of the sales price or buy the good stuff & list for yourself. I know you all help each other out but, im just sayin 😅

I saw your last interview with Tech where you talked about hiring someone to help with taking photos. With all you are able to help Tom in sorting and grouping bundles of HIS inventory, maybe you could work out a deal to have his guys (“boys” you call them) do photographing of YOUR inventory. That way you can focus on what you excel at and both teams get their inventory listed faster! Win-Win! Keep the videos coming. I really enjoy watching your progress. You’re an inspiration. ❤
His staff are under the pump trying to keep up with his stuff. He has more work than his staff can handle which is why I am choosing to help him out.

So many books...wow...it's great to see someone who has the knowledge methodically sorting through them all. Great video Mel
Maybe he can sort the next round of pallets that come in to this warehouse by types to make it easier for you when sorting. Fiction on left side & mixed pallets on right side. Also as the warehouse clears out, maybe some shelves put up for bundle building sorting & storage. Another thought for the mixed pallets, maybe have a big mail storage cart on wheels on each side of you as you quickly sort to pallet so you don’t have to move or take steps. Then when the cart is full you would just be working on a specific type of books for bundling.
When he gets the pallets he doesn’t know what’s in each. They’re all mixed up. We just pray there is as many of the same genre in one but we really don’t know what’s in them until they get unpacked.
You should get a percentage of sales because of all the time and effort you’re putting in to sort and bundle the books, based on your expertise. This is valuable time you’re taking away from your business.
I get to make vlogs on doing it and vlogging is part of my business. I can share and help other people learn about the different books I find along the way. It’s a win for everyone.

Very enjoyable to watch your sorting Mel. One day... hopefully, I will get my "future profit pile" sorted! I agree about holding off on your $100 offer initially. If you just jump in and accept it, all it does is devalue the individual item, and all resellers suffer. I'm trying to work on a 10% price reduction offer as an acceptable "loss" on a listed item these days. Make Hay while the Sun Shines.... Goulburn is going to be brrrrrr for the next few months.

If this was my deathpile, then I’d feel the same. But because it’s Thom’s and I’m just helping it’s quite relaxing and therapeutic sorting. It lets my brain tune out from all the other things on my mind and just lets me concentrate on the books. It’s actually good for me.

Learning what sells takes practice, making lots of mistakes and constant researching of the sales comps on eBay
I cant do bundles of common cheap books in canada, it drives the shipping price through the roof.
I have to sell Single books that either will go untracked, or fall under the 200 gram ruleset for expedited lite.
With valuable exceptions.

@backfromburnout Yes, hard to compete with large operations in media. Bundles, vintage, customer service, and quality is the only way I survive.
When I saw you put your phone down on that book pile I wondered how long it would take you to find it. I have to have a special place for my phone or I loose track of it..... lol
You’ve done the hard part of sorting them into bundles, but how will the boys keep the bundles together during the transfer and processing? How will they know which book goes with which bundle?

I loved sorting books! Couple of questions for you : When you say historical, are you referring to regency romances? Do you use the word regency as a keyword? I love regency romances, but I have never searched under historical for them. Second question: How are the boys planning on transporting these books?? I just can't imagine how your bundles will be kept together. Other than Tom spending many hundreds or thousands of dollars on cling wrap, i can't wait to see the plan! I envy you, Mel. Even if they weren't my books, I would love to sort them!! See, I would be your ideal employee. I know books, authors, genres, series, and so on. I'm an avid reader, plus I managed the books and media at a Salvation Army. I quit when I was told to stop sorting the books. They were moving the beautiful wood bookcases I used and going with ugly metal racks. Books were to be put onto sheles in absolutely no rhyme or reason. Cookbooks next to a Lee Child, next to a bible, next to a vampire book. Imagine? LOL, I couldn't do it. 😂
Yes some of them are regency historical romances. Some of them medieval, Viking etc. I often use the word regency as a keyword but not away. Historical romance is the typical name for that genre

I didn't know you guys had weight restrictions that low in Australia. For the US with Media Mail you can do 70 pounds in one box!
We ship in the padded mailers that go by size small, med and large and they can hold 5kg which is about 11pounds. We can ship heavier parcels but it’s costly and more time consuming.

Where does Tom get this insane amount of books?
He buys them in bulk. You need lots of space, trucks, machinery (forklifts) man power to get them, process them, list and store them. It’s not for the faint hearted.
When you create bundles, people will inevitably ask if you will sell some separately. What are your thoughts on parting out listed bundles? Thanks!! ❤
My answer is always
“No sorry, I don’t split the bundles. Thank you for browsing my book store”.
That way it closes the conversation.
I'm sure when they move it all all your sorting will be messed up I think tie them together some how or the sorting process is a waste of time as no way they gonna keep it in order when moving it all

I sold that whole series last week...actually 16 books (I think) in the original series. There's a smaller volume version..maybe a younger readers edition or something where there's about 36 volumes.

Mel.....what scanning app do you recommend for books?
I don’t use a scanner, I manually price comp in the eBay solds or terapeak. Occasionally I’ll scan the barcode with the eBay app but I don’t find it very accurate in Australia as many Australian sellers don’t add barcodes to listings. Thom is in the process of building his own scanning software to speed up his listing.

Yeah, some items deserve to be sat on. Id decline that $100 offer. If youre the only game in town someone will offer you much more to what your listing price is.

The only reason to accept that "offer" is a desire to destroy the market in which you're selling. The only thing to debate is whether to block or not. The second idiotic "offer" would be instant block for me.
@@raucousreg9064 I personally don't like the "this is my final offer" BS...It feels like a threat. If it is, then it is...we all know ANY offer can be final...that's why I would have countered back with my original counter - or blocked :-). Each item is different, each offer different....but if its truly only one listed out there...let it ride unless you have a big bill to pay at that exact moment.
