O man, this is quite the rabbit hole I just went down... Never played Monkey Ball, and I can't say I have any interest in doing so, but I watched this entire video. Very interesting to see such a community and following around this kind of game. Love your passion for the series. Keep on keeping on my dude!
@@dariancuster216 I'm in the same boat as OP. Just never had a SEGA console, it was always Playstation up until recently, and even then if there were games for PS1 or 2 I either never touched them or rented them over the weekend and forgot them entirely.

Do you mean every other franchise that’s not Sonic? Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, really anything that’s not Sonic the hedgehog doesn’t get a new game at all. They’ve driven sonic so far into the ground while neglecting them literally every other IP that they own.

I recently homebrewed my WiiU and my dad has been at me to get Super monkey ball on it, I remember why he loved it so much. I'd spend hours playing levels on our GameCube or watching him play.

PSO2 Is actually a thing, it's not quite outside of Japan officially yet (if ever) But it's quite fun and has had several collaborations with the likes of Persona 5, Final Fantasy, And even Vocaloids. As it looks now I don't think it WILL go outside of Japan, but there is an English patch for those in the US who want to play... If you're willing to jump through some hoops.

My jaw dropped when I first heard that "Ready?" in the same style my 5 year old self heard it oh-so long ago. I'm sadly too late for the beta tiers but after being disappointed with other attempted revivals of the genre (such as One More Roll), this may just be what I needed to rekindle those memories of my youth. My wallet is ready.
I clearly remember the first two Super Monkey Ball games being the first games that I really got into as a kid. I actually went back and replayed 2 a couple months ago, and was just loving how insane the level design was. And, I've gotta say, I wasn't sure how to feel about Rolled Out when you first started showing the footage, but I started watching closely and hearing what you have to say... god damn. It really is classic monkey ball. And a possible Switch release of this would be absolute heaven for me. Thank you for letting me know about this project - I'm unable to support it on Indiegogo, but I will definitely be spreading the word and keeping an eye out when it releases!

That game had unprecedented soundtracks, unique gameplay and world, and was the first video game to ever use cell-shading and basically invented a visual style all by itself. 20 years later, this game still holds up visually, which is extremely rare for a 3D game. Sure it isn't for everyone because the game itself is quite weird and suffured from the years, but when it clicks, it really clicks.
I remember when I was younger in an arcade place there was a super monkey ball arcade but there wasnt a joystick or anything there was an orb and we needed to roll the orb the way we wanted the monkey to go it was so fun and creative

I go back and play banana blitz and it’s still fun. It has crazy monkey ball level design and for me it’s difficult and interesting. Touch and roll is also great and I don’t know why he didn’t mention it.
I thought it was okay but was upset by the controls and the ability to jump. I also didn't like the artstyle as much as the original GameCube games.

Glad I found this video, haven't played Monkey Ball in years but was probably one of my more played gamecube games when I was younger. Also those gravity strips on those level at 13:50 are a clever idea, IIRC those weren't in the old games.

My fondest memories of Super Monkey Ball is playing it on the GameCube thingy at the McDonalds near our house. We had a GameCube at home, but there was something special about the arcade-like experience of taking turns with my brother to get as far as possible in the game before Dad made us leave.
These physics look incredible. I want this guy to just straight up make the next monkey ball game-it looks that correct.

I remember years ago, I gave up on Monkey Ball when I was REAL young, because I was on one of those levels that took place inside the whale. And it was when you had to try to get aaaalll the way to the top of this this tower like thing, and it was hard as hell. I still have the game and a game cube, and your videos have been making me wanna revisit story mode and try to beat the game!

I played this game as a kid, but it's been a long time. I missed this one.
It's fantastic. You can try SMB1 or 2 on a Wii/Gamecube emulator, or if you have a 360, the xbox version of SMB Deluxe is compatible with it.
I played SMB2 as a kid but it was too hard for me back then. I'm gonna get back into it soon :)

I had never seen your videos before. Nor had I watched the content or even heard of the game Super Monkey Ball. But after watching this, I can just say that I am so proud of seeing the impact that every person has had on this game, allowing it to become into being, and just seeing the community create something beautiful thanks to Mr. Johnson and his team. Absolutely well done. Side note: We got 230% of the donation goal now
The disbandment of Amusement Vision by Sega may well be the greatest sin ever committed against video games. This is the team responsible for those original Super Monkey Ball games and F-Zero GX and AX, which is a short list of some of the most transcendentally excellent games in history.

@@tamacat2001 cat walks not too bad it's just a matter of aligning yourself before you start moving. Once you're aligned with the goal just push forward and don't move that joystick anywhere else and you should be good.
