Pretty sure they were friends. Jay and Ty had a jokey beef around gonerfest 6, when Jay jokingly mentioned that SPIN magazine suggested they should fight. Ty Segall once mentioned that he looked up to Jay.
Jay may have famously said that he wasn't a fan of Elvis and/or the prevailing rock-n-roll tradition of his hometown/state, etc. I nonetheless hear a good amount of muddy backwater blues and southern rock in this glorious sound - albeit after having it slam a few rails of coke and fly into a bloody barfight-level squall of beautiful noise. RIP. Great work as always. Maybe "Night of Broken Glass" next?
Jay so rad, and so underrated. There are far too few covers of his online, so praise the higher powers that SlackVK’s here to put things right!
