tldr; this is a what if scenario, and post-apocalyptic. rather than earth's Pre-apocalypse story and the story to prevent the apocalypse itself, mars' story is about surviving after the apocalypse, and what happens if the apocalypse happened. hmmm, its kinda weird since, its been "billions" of years since the actual eruption began. mars has been long dead. there are no herrschers, and there are no honkai anymore. they only managed to survive off of attaching themselves to the sea of data (a version of sea of quanta), however time has stagnated for them for billions of years. according to (god?) sena, time has only recently moved again after earth has transcended finality in those bubble universes, but for them, it feels like only 100 years has passed since the great eruption. even after surviving from attaching themselves to the sea of data, they were still fated to disappear and die, as these... "shadows" began appearing, basing their powers off of people's fears. only then, these shoes began appearing, people who can master their own fears, and others. by mastering fear itself, they have control over these shadows. using that, they rose to the top and began to be viewed similarly as the flame chasers, a bunch of rag-tag team of overpowered people who tried to survive and preserve their world.
