    Thank you for the video. I drive between Vegas and AZ on speedway 93. MPG dumps to 13 to 14 above 90mpg. Appreciate the insight on use of the turbo. A little over a year in with a high output Sierra, really happy with the performance, although mpg can be finicky.

    My 88 GMC with the 5.7L is the same way, It'll go 70*75 down the highway but You will notice a substantial difference in milage. I keep it at 65 and it's not bad. At 75 it's guzzling gas, I suspect it's the rear gear ratio.

    Torque comes on at 1500 rpm so it's spirited for me. Another like is the electric water pump that keeps going after a shut down. I try to stay out of the turbo and on a flat freeway, 1500 rpm in 8th gear is about 68 mph so it's relaxed cruising.

      Hi Laura V! Great question. You will find the High Output on 2022 refreshed Silverados and up. The 2020 would have the standard output 2.7l, just like mine does. It's a fantastic engine. In 2022 the standard output would have LTD somewhere on the window sticker. Thanks for stopping by and asking.

    My shop has a fleet of these Silverados with the HO L3B and every one I’ve driven just feels sluggish. Like the throttle response is just dead. The power comes on a little weird too as I feel like softly easing into 70% throttle accelerates the truck faster than if you just punch it. Like flooring it literally feels slower than gradually pushing into the throttle but not flooring it. It’s bizarre, almost like it pulls timing under WOT. It’s hard to tell sometimes if it’s the throttle, the transmission, or a combo of both but it just feels so laggy that it ends up constantly downshifting when it shouldn’t have to. I’ll be merging onto the highway so I’ll smoothly start rolling into the throttle and it just doesn’t seem to respond quick enough before it triggers an unnecessary downshift. The peak torque is 1500 yet it will downshift like it’s an atmospheric 2000cc four banger that makes peak torque at 8000rpm. It’s rough. Maybe they tune the fleet trucks differently? They’re definitely the HO versions though according to the window sticker.

    • @jeremsgarage
      @jeremsgarage  Před 23 dny

      Very interesting. The throttle response is a little laggy, it reminds me of the throttle response from the 6.2l in about an 07 Yukon Denali I drove. I am not sure if the HO is tuned differently on throttle response or not. But it wouldn’t surprise me. I am not a big fan of the 8 speed either. It kind of meanders around the pasture. It’s my least favorite thing about the truck.
      For my truck, hooking a big load to it makes it come alive. I’m not sure what the deal is but it pulls very hard against my 9k travel trailer.
      I test drove a 6.6l gas 3/4 ton and few weeks ago and my 1500 felt like a sport truck compared to it. The 6.6l seemed sluggish to me too.
      Idk why GM gives us sluggish throttle response though.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@jasongalligan6424 the max rating is about 920 lbs. I am over that for sure but well under the receiver rating of 1360 lbs. The 30 ft Coachmen is a good match for this truck. My last camper was a 31 ft Zinger and weighed around the same thing a you are looking and it was an excellent match!
