The real hero of this story is Ed’s wife allowing him to buy multiple cars worth more than their house while making no money for 2 years 😂. What a trooper
Yes she is!
She lets him so that she can buy expensive things and he can't complain lol it's her get out of jail free card.
she also allows Ed to have the pet boa
Not all heroes wear capes….
@northernsurferboy she passed away
Thank you for bringing up the insurance limit issue, because it is not something a lot of people think about. It is a worst case scenario, but it is definitely possible. I am a deputy prosecuting attorney and handle a lot of misdemeanors and infractions right now. The amount of people on the road without a license or insurance would absolutely shock some people. ALWAYS get uninsured motorist coverage and under insured motorist coverage.
In the rare instance I see Jay Leno in the wild driving his McLaren F1, I will now stay very far away from it...
It is almost as if the rules are designed to be abused.
In Holland, insurance is a minimum, those who can't afford it are not allowed to drive.
Pedestrians and bicycles don't need it, because they are seen as the weakest link in traffic because they don't drive expensive murder weapons 😂
We also designate horses as a vehicle class, and you're even a rider when you walk with the ropes in hand. 😅
Now there is another danger on our roads, unregulated e-bikes and e-step-scooters. (We only allow pedal assist up to 25kmph)
But for some reason they are everywhere now.
@@BrawlerTheSmokyDutchMandon’t forget that if somebody still decides to drive without insurance the government will make you whole and will prosecute the a-hole.

Always enjoy Ed stories! Ed, your maintenance costs for this beauty makes the $45,000 I've spent maintaining my 2011 911 GTS for 65,000 miles seem almost rational. Almost.
Almost 😂
$45,000 just on maintenance for a 997.2???? One of the most reliable Porsches ever made? I'm shocked
@@EJWE92 Yes, the car is incredibly reliable. In fact, the 997.2's reliability is probably the only "boring" aspect of this car. Like Ed, I worked in the automotive business and my car receives all factory specified service from a Porsche dealer. But unlike Ed, I like "perfect" cars. Even with over 65,000 miles now, I have zero scuffs, dents, dings or scratches, including to the notoriously difficult to maintain door sills. I do oil changes every 5,000 miles, but also do a brake fluid flush prior to every track weekend, and an additional oil change after every track weekend. I am also on my 5th set of brakes. So the $45,000 represents maintaining the car as "perfect", always in 100% condition. And yes, I am my dealer's #1 service customer.
@@GTSCarLife that makes much more sense, glad you’re caring for such an amazing car!
@@EJWE92 Thank you. She is #269 of only 314 2011 GTS coupes made for the United States, and I will always have her!
Nothing beats a ed story on his murcielago
For anyone concerned about financial ruin after totaling Ed's car, look into an umbrella policy. They tend to be inexpensive, and cover you when your primary insurance limits are exceeded.
Ed’s stories are truly the best. He’s just got a way of making you feel immersed in it.
(Side note) it show the kind of guy he is when he’s more ‘worried’ about someone else not being able to pay for the insurance claim assuming someone was to crash into it rather than just himself losing the car. Seriously the best.
Feel so lucky to be able to see this driving around every once in a while in Alpharetta, always know exactly who’s behind the wheel haha
You should make a video talking about how to get insurance on cars worth over $1M
most of the time its as easy as going through Hagerty's or other specialised companies in high value exotic car insurance, so in other words its probably as easy as just switching car insurance companies and perhaps having milege requirements per year
Love that you went into the financial responsibility and insurance components, that is something most people don't mention. You were very close with the terms, the limits and coverage at play would be property damage in the scenario you outlined. It is physical damage with regards to your own vehicle. Most large consumer carriers offer property damage up to $500k, and the conventional recommendation for property damage is $100K (100/300/100), which would still be grossly inadequate for a mercy.
mercy?

The photography of this Murci in all varying settings is utterly sublime. Top notch dream car set into scene perfectly. 👌
It was such a treat seeing you and that car in person when it and all of you and your friends were in Scottsdale for it. Your Lamborghini Beverly Hills plate you asked me if I could take off and keep is still on my wall. Thanks for being so cool and friendly, Ed.
I'm a Miata owner, and you just gave me 14 heart attacks! Hell, for less then $10,000 I could have a whole new built engine. Cost of ownership minus upgrades is maybe $500/year.
Always love a good Ed Murci story and appreciate the name dropping on where to find factory certified Lambo service. Would love to see a video on the do/don't what can/can't wait after you've accepted a used exotic that maybe doesn't have a great service history. Just accepted delivery of a 2007 997.1 Turbo (thank you AutoTempest for finding it any my many inquiries over the past 2-3 years) with no service history that passed the post-purchase inspection with recommendations for a cabin air filter and some slow oil seepage to watch but do nothing. Want to build a record and would be great to know how/where to start.
I think the radio is one of those things that you say you'll eventually put in, but likely wont ever do it unless you have a buyer with cash in hand. The sound of the v12 is all you need.
Great video. I'm not sure about accepting $20K-$30K maintenance bills as common. I've owned a Viper for 15 years. Other than fluid changes and tires...I've had to replace a $96 relay switch and a $200 steering pulley. Fifteen years of ownership...$300 of total repairs. I'm Canadian...but man...America builds some pretty reliable fast cars!
Crazy about insurance in the US. Basic policy in Australia covers up to $20M AUD for 3rd party damages.
Wicked video Ed, absolutely love your in and output haha, keep up the amazing work brother🎉
Great video and interesting info. This is my favorite car from your fleet, or any shown on this channel. Just beautiful and glad you drive it.
My new recurring nightmare: crashing into a Murci and literally losing my shoebox condo!!!!! New rule: If your on the road and see a Murci, pull over and stop!!! Thank you Ed, for another wonderful Murci story!!!!!!
Once again Ed proves that he's an awesome guy, worried about financially ruining someone because of an accident.
Bravo Ed,if more people thought that way about life in general the world just might be a little bit better.
Great video.Thank you Ed. & thank you for explaining to others the whole thing about driving very expensive cars about & what headache it can be IF someone crashes into you.I've got a bunch of very rare expensive stuff & don't drive them that often....1 reason being tht which you mentioned....other being the roads etc here in South Africa ain't great plus there's what we call "Minibus Taxis" everywhere....& they just drive like they want to....don't respect other road users nor rules of the road...even if they hit you they just drive away....So I've grown accustomed to having my cars for me & enjoying them...even if it means driving them very rarely
Congrats Ed🥳🥳🥳
Great info, thanks for sharing.
IMMEDIATELY ADDING TO MY FAVORITES THANK YOU. This is my dream car and I would love to see what it'll take to own it

Thanks for sharing all of that - that's a nice return on your investment
These are so eye opening. No way I’d ever own one of these. I wouldn’t be able to tolerate all these costs. Door locks, water intrusion. I love the transparency tho, Ed!
An update to the app? Finally!
I've gotten used to it being an everpresent cast member of your channel. - So never get rid of it!
...and I always thought it was the coolest colour for an LP640 ever since I saw Clakson test one on Top Gear.
Ed's stories are a comfort blanket at this point in my life.
Insurance in the US is wild. In the UK your third party damage value is unlimited so you can't be sued personally for damages.
Thats how it should be. Most people have the minimum which can be so low as $10-15k. I just upped mine to $250k - $500k due to the cost of new cars. Used to be at $100k. Hit one Denali and I would be screwed.
@@Bob_Smith19exactly. I’ve upped to 500k and an umbrella insurance policy to 2 million.
When are the apps going to be available in the UK? I love the videos by they way.
The insurance side of your ownership concerns is quite considerate and valuable.
I actually just drove past you in the verde car in Buford lol
Love the table detailing all the expenses ! If i'm not mistaken there's a slight error : -852,000 + 36,050 = -788,950 end running cost. Still a decent unrealized gain ;)
Hello Ed, I enjoy your videos and the passion you have for cars. Who do you insure your exotic cars with? Cheers
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what seeing the future looks like!
After a bad accident a year ago we upgraded our coverage to $500,000 as we live in the Seattle area and like a lot of larger cities we see more and more vehicle's are over $100,000 and lot well over $250,000. We got hit and the people had minimal coverage and our truck was valued over a 100k. So to date we have not recovered the 75k our insurance company had to payout. So we made to choice to cover our ass as much as we could. So you make a very good point about driving something with that high of a value.
Damn insurance in the US is screwed. In NZ having $20m of liability cover is standard with car insurance.
Crazy they are worth so much, in the UK the paddle shift ones are less than 200k with under 10k miles
It’s so insane to me that there are policies in the us that pay so little in case you total someone else’s car. In Germany they legally have to insure about 1.3 million usd for any property damage caused (which includes totalling a car)
Just started watching, I'm at 0:15 and I'm going to guess its a positive number as in owning a manual LP640 will make Ed money
Would love to hear the stories behind the LS swapped Murci Cleetus gave away and the Murci BisforBuild is working on
Is this at 1.5X speed?
Saw it in the Miami Design District parking garage for Miami Councours!
When he talked about non Lamborghini servicing I can tell you a few shops are certified in Lamborghini that aren’t Lamborghini dealers. I worked at one and we did all exotics you can think of. It was fun because I got to see a bit of everything.
The murcielago is a timeless masterpiece 🏁🙂🏁
I'm here feeling guilty about putting off my valve adjustment in my Honda Fit for a couple months now.... And Ed's like meh about his Lambo valve adjustment for a couple years lol!
I really like that color. I wasn’t sure about it at first but midway through the video I was convinced.
Had no verifiable income for two years...financed half a million dollars worth of cars.
I wanna know YOUR bankers!! I'd be able to finance the Space Shuttle!! lol
8 - 10 mpg 😂 not that bad. That's about the same as my diesel truck when working it. Although my diesel truck has 300,000 miles on it.
Wish I had Ed’s problems. 😊Thanks for Evangelizing the automotive word sir.
Hey Ed: could we have your wife in a video telling us her side of what it’s like living this lifestyle? Also, her thoughts on Kimmy?
hey Ed, do you think dde paid a fair price for damon's new non lp manual merci {the silver 1 got this month from august motors}?? and what are your thoughts about him finally parting with his lp that was crashed by the same dealership, and sold to houston at royalty?? it was nice to see him a bit more "whole" after he got a working 1 again
How about a episode on the GA lambo under truck rental possibilities.
There is a orange Merci Manual on Copart right now!
18 mpg I would love that my jk Jeep hit 17 mpg on the interstate I’m happy
just casually 4x its value in a 5 years.... that is ridiculous
Cost yes, but driving it is your value! Great video!
Ed, you missed an opportunity to sell some liability insurance... This should go into your pitch for insurance company sponsors.
Pixel 7 Pro here, still waiting for a version of the VINwiki app I can use. :(
Finna own one in the future 🙌🏾
Truly inspiring.
Cats is five minutes from my house on a back road of sorts. From time to time I like to take the long way home just to see what they have parked out front.
I'm going to start showing this video to all those people that think that if they bought this exotic car or whatever they would just drive it all the time... Here we have a car with less than 15,000 mi put on it and it's cost him that much and it's already due for another $30,000 worth of maintenance... The valve adjustment is mostly labor and you could do that fairly cheap but the clutch is fairly involved and the parts alone are still going to cost you several thousand.
I'm looking for an early E-gear. Any help or link would help.
That has got to be really scary knowing that someone in a 98 civic doing 90 down I-75 could just plow into you and take off. What would happen if they just took off and you couldn't get their insurance ?
Nice shirt Ed
Ed there was a Manual Verde Draco LP640 Roadster for sale recently here in the land down under. Did you hear of it at all?
Go Ed!!! 🎉🎈
I’m driving a 2018 911 GT3. I’ve done 3 oil changes. $85 each. It’s about $1200 a year in insurance. Plus Gas. My Ford pickup costs more
nice car, and color
Wow, most car insurance in the UK covers £5 million.
American insurance is funny, 3rd party liability in UK usually is effectively unlimited (usually has some sort of nominal maximum that is not expected to be exceeded like 10 or 20 Million pounds) so unless you crash into a row of cars at Goodwood you are probably safe from personal litigation (lets remember you cannot really right off a £50M Ferrari 250GTO or similar as the rebuild cost is always lower than the value)
I got 8.6mpg on my spirited drive home yesterday afternoon in my 2023 m4 competition xdrive😁
It’s crazy that my rx8 gets the same gas mileage as an lp640💀 and my rx7 gets half that , but that’s 600whp so it gets a pass😅
I like when people give the price of the parts, as a tech I'd do my own labor etc. Everybody says $20k to do.. but they drop it off at a dealer probably $800/hr. 🤔
Man pays less for a Murci insurance than I do for my STi with no accidents lol
In Australia, you are insured for $AU20 mil in damages minimum. Likely to change to $AU30 mil soon. Better bring it down here...
😂 and to think I was just complaining about a couple Mercedes service B’s this year 😅
Cornelius Would Be Proud.🙌🏻
21 grand over 14k miles... I think my concept of "not that expensive" might vary a little... as of now I am at about 20 grand at about 60k miles... including the car.
Yeah, same here. 🤣
I hope that update comes soon! My playstore says I can't even download it because it's too old.
Sidenote: I have incredible stories having owned 10 cars by age 19. How do I get apply to tell my stories?
The web version should still work for now.
@@EdBolianAre you taking applicants for stories?
People don’t understand that about commercial trucks. When you have a tractor that costs over $150,000.00 and parts are very expensive. Plus it’s a business so they are going to be responsible for lost income and possibly for the lost income for the driver.
I say if you are aware of the risk then you should eat that risk if you take that chance. It's part of driving something so valuable compared to the everyday commuter car that fills most of the roads, you know you absolutely know almost no one around you on the road can afford to insure your car let alone buy a replacement.
150 / month wtf? really seems like im getting screwed
i pay 300 for just my BMW M240i atm and then got quoted 366 / month for my future Lotus Emira. I definitely need to look into this
So the maintenance only cost is basically a dollar per mile, which doesn't seem that bad for what it is.
Thought mat armstrongs was around 70k miles 🤔🤷♂️ instresting video anyway keep it up👌
Ed doesen't have a wife...Ed has a hero without cape by his side
OD Green is the color you got.
And this is why most people in Canada carry 2 million dollars in liability coverage.
Great story, but slooow down Ed😌🙏🌪️
How to stay sane and afford ownership costs of Italian made “car”, stay married and not end up in the doghouse.
Wow $150 a month for insurance, I've met people who drive Nissan Altimas with rates 6 times higher than that per month 😂
$150 a month to insure?! Holy hell I have a perfect driving record, almost 40 and I pay that for a E90.
It is collector car insurance through Hagerty so that keeps it cheaper.
Probably also because he has multiple cars. If it were his only car and were actually a 10k mile/year daily driver it would probably be more expensive. For example, Stradman only pays about 500 bucks a month to insurse his Veyron, but that's because he has like 10 other cars to split his driving across
Soon enough youll be able to straight trade one for your dream Veyron.
1800 isnt to bad i pay 1100 currently for my C5
