  • The big-screen return of Lord and Lady Grantham, their family, and their servants is finally here, making good on a promise that was made just shortly after the wildly popular TV series 'Downton Abbey' ended its run in 2015. The new film -- already Certified Fresh -- catches up with everyone in 1927 as they prepare for a visit from King George and Queen Mary, and ahead of its release, RT got the opportunity to chat with Robert and Cora Crawley themselves, Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern. Editor Jacqueline Coley sat down with McGovern and Bonneville in the RT studio and talked about the enduring popularity of the show, recalling ther favorite moments, exploring how their characters grew over the course of the series, and trying to explain the different fandoms in the U.K. and the U.S.

They appreciate the excellent writing, as do we all!
I love the subtlety that was often used. As an example, when a character was set to admit something to someone
    (or break news to someone),
the scene often ended just before
    they said the admission.
The audience never heard the actual words that they used to explain themselves.

Its a little terrifying how you can predict exactly what the conversation is going to, each mannerism. And I just wish there could be a comfort level among us all to easily have this conversation about something we all enjoy, its painful because you can tell Hugh Bonneville is nervous, and Elizabeth Mcgovern is trying to help this awkwardness that always comes through in these. Maybe we all just need some high caffeine coffee so we can have so many thoughts to talk about with energetic annoyance that each person is waiting to cut the other off...but holding themselves back. almost, rather than the afraid to show emotion which is how this started off. I don't blame them, I blame myself as well, I would do the exact same thing.

Queen Elizabeth's Grandmother, Queen Mary, spoke with a heavy German Accent. The British Royal Family, has deep German roots. It only became known as the House of Windsor, either during the 1st or 2nd World War.

I doubt that is true. She was born at Kensington Palace and lived there until she was 16. Her family then traveled abroad for two years before they returned to London. Yes, her father lived in Germany until 1866, (a year before her birth) but her mother was English and they received all their money due to her side of the family. The British Royal Family did change their surname from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor after WWI.

Love Downton Abbey, then you will love C.A MacRae's Gemini Complex, The Cabal: After
the final demise of the Cathars at Chateau Mount Montségur in the south of
France in 1244, a heroic rescue by a Knights Templar took place. Six hundred
and fifty-three years later a murder and spate of suspicious deaths of the
clergy become linked in the south of France. Flo’s first day (10th November
1918) at Chandringham doesn’t work out quite how she imagined. A bright but
humble farm girl finds herself thrust into the upper echelons of society.
Rather than being trained in the everyday tasks of a maid, she’s told she needs
to leave her old life behind and immerse herself in the life of the
aristocracy, as Lady Mary Tavistock. Her world is turned upside down, Flo
realises she’s not the person she’s always thought she was and to make matters
worse she finds out her life is endangered. In order to make sense of who she
really is and what her purpose in life is, she’s sent to Switzerland to meet
others of her kind. the first book of a trilogy. It's going to be released
    later this year.

I saw the movie yesterday. I felt it was more of a two hour special, than a movie. It was missing the format that you expect from a movie. The actress who played Queen Mary, should have been someone who could do a German accent, to be realistic. Brenden Coyle had but a few lines of maybe four words each. Which was a shame, seeing that he was an important person to the series. I was a huge fan of the series, have the complete DVD set. But was disappointed in the movie. Sorry.
