    One thing that's really difficult to fake even for actors is chemistry. You can try but a set with actors who have good chemistry together always shows up differently than a set with actors who have bad chemistry together. It's why in the end besides writing, the most important basis for a good show is casting. If you cast well then it starts the ball rolling.

    • @gameXylinder
      @gameXylinder Před 3 lety

      Wasn't there a thing with Star Wars, they basically had two "sets" of Luke/Leia/Han actors, not picking between them individually but rather trying to put together a trio with good chemistry? It must be a very difficult job since I imagine most films and shows won't have endless time for screentesting the actors in different combinations to find good matches. They appear to have been very fortunate with Downton, it must be rare for so many main characters to stay on for so many series, and also come back and do the movie!
      There are a few characters missing of course, we don't see Dr Clarkson or Rosamund or Denker or Spratt (and probably others), but so many came back that it's hardly noticed. And with so many characters it must be difficult to give each of them their own little moment as it is, and gets more difficult the more people are added.

    My favorite characters are the ones who experienced the most personal growth throughout the entire series, Tom Branson and Daisy. Tom went from Irish rebel chauffeur to white tie and tails estate manager and his uneasy transition to that position was a joy to watch. His relationship to Mary as a kind of “brother she never had” and to Earl Robert as a kind of beloved surrogate son was SUCH a joy to see. To watch Daisy go from scullery maid to a woman slowly growing into educated maturity and realizing that the class system in which she finds herself isn’t necessarily in her best interest long term is also a joy. Her growing political awareness and uncertainty about romantic relationships is also quite interesting. She’s come a very long way and I am dying of curiosity to know where her life eventually leads her. I would love to see Downton Abbey move into the 1930s and the growing threat in Europe that leads to WWII and where that goes. Young George Crawley would be about the right age to serve in that conflict. A Downton Abbey: The Next Generation series (1930s - 1940s) could be really cool, plus prequels about young Cora Levinson and Robert Crawley and young Violet and her life would be really cool, too. One can only hope.

      @amandapungula4753 Před 2 lety

      Everything about this comment is gold! Agreed, Tom and Daisy had the most growth in the show and oh, how I'd love to see prequel and maybe some spin offs!
      I also thought a storyline that could be interesting is the relationship between George (who inherits basically everything) and his half-brother, Johnny.

    The movie dialogue was very fast moving but so satisfying .. My first favourite was Carson "I'll be there in the morning M'lady. Don't you worry" .. so British - to the rescue, you can count on me, talk ... then Mosely eeek curtsying to the Royals. That scene was ultra hilarious as it was so out of place of stiff British conduct. My disappointment was that Carson's proper-ness would have allowed the Royal Staff to rob Downton's staff of the experience of a life time and totally undermined them. Thank you Anna and Bates and the crew for joining forces and finally thank you Carson that you got on board with the revolution. Everything from Lady Violet Gratham and her counterpart Lady Isobel Crawley was superb; and of course every other character. The beautiful setting; so emotional the old steam train puffing through the night with a special mail delivery on board; Carson walking up the Downton Abbey drive whilst the music is resonating". I plan to go and see it again and am hoping that Julian Fellowes will take us into the 2nd World War with the Downton Abbey family.Please. There's plenty of story lines to use especially as the next generation of Gratham's are approaching adult hood by then. One question I have "What is the name of the new Grantham dog please? He is not listed in the movie credits.

    Carson has a vaudeville background why didn’t they ever use that ? He could have turned out to sing and dance and tell funny stories. Remember the good time Charlies ? He was first blackmailed by his old partner and later through Mrs Hughes intervention made piece with his old friend in spite of some jealousy about an old girlfriend that had preferred the other one.
