Novatec F482SB-SL Bearing Replacement

- This instruction shows how to replace bearings in hub F482SB-SL and other Novatec hubs which use the same or similar axle system with axle Ø15mm, like D712SB, F742SB, F682SB, D632SB. Similar procedure also applies to hubs with Ø12mm axle, like F162SB, D042SB, D812SB, F062SB.

A few tips: don't tap on the inner race of the bearing. Bearings of the axle don't need to be tight, only snug in place. When the axle play inbetween the bearings disappears that's perfect! Don't tighten the end caps of the axle too much, snug is enough. Otherwise the bearings will wear out too quickly do to *excessive preload* ! Keep in mind that the quick release also compresses the axle a little so these end caps need little preload.
The 6901 bearing on the axle is the weak point. I'm currently testing if a 6901 *LLU MAX* bearing will last longer.

Remember, do not reinstall bearings after impacting the inner race as the shock transmitted through the rolling elements can cause microchips on the bearing surfaces. This is the only way to get the bearings out of this type hub so, have fresh bearings ready. When reinserting, contact the outer races only. This was done for demonstation purposes. Please share info on the kit used here; it looks awesome!

If an impact bearing puller is used to remove the bearing, then the inner race will be impacted hard like you stated. But what about a "press type" bearing puller was used where the inner race is being pulled out by a pressing mechanism and not by an impacting mechanism. In this case, would the bearing be still in good shape and re-usable?
Only if you could turn the puller with a short wrench. A good fitting press should keep the bearing parallel with the hub preventing shearing aluminum from that expensive hub.

I just had to buy a replacement freehub body because its bearings were very rough, crunchy feeling, and the cassette cogs had dug into the splines. I bought the A2 ABG hub to prevent the damage from the cassette. However is it possible to replace the bearings in the freehub body itself in the future?

Hello. That hubs have very different construction. D042SB has only industrial bearings, D482TSBT has industrial bearings and loose ball bearings.

Hello, I cant seem to remove the freehub body as you do @ 1:17.
I have followed all steps but cant get the freehub body off the axle, any advice?
Shawn Hennessy Hello, I am not sure why you cannot remove cassette body. Only reason I can think is that you have damaged drive system or it is stuck by mud. Try to push all axle from other side with cassette body out of hub shell.

at 6:00 you mention the wider side needs to go towards the bearings. In the video, he inserts the raised smaller diameter pice towards the bearing. Is that correct in the video?

Damn, have taken off both end caps as shown and onto pulling free hub body off but its stuck fast and won't move. Any tips?
It seems that your sprocket is bitten to freehub body. It happen usually if there is used Alloy freehub without ABG (Anti Bite Guard) and sprockets without spider.
@@novatecwheels thx for reply. turned out it was a seized bearing in freehub that had corroded a bit on to the axle meaning one couldn't pull off by hand. My fault due to lack of timely maintenance.

zainul arifin Hi, actual procedure is the same for D042SB hub. What is different is axle size and instead of allen key you will need 16mm wrench key. Cheers.

fuck that 11mm allen key...i coundn't find one at the local shop...only 10mm or 12...such a stupid idea Novatec...why didn't you made the hubs with 10mm or 12mm in mind ? Now i have to buy a 12mm key and carefully grind it so it could fit to that 11mm space.
you can get a 11 mm allen key on ebay. I bought 11,12,13,14,& 15mm from ebay
