It's best to work with gentle to medium hammer taps, working round the bearing edge in a circle. Smashing it in one place is likely to damage the locating cups

Smashing in a bearing with even a rubber hammer is a huge no-go. I'd strongly recommend using a bearing press. Bike specific tools like that can be really expensive tho, but it's possible to create such a tool on the cheap, using a threaded rod, some nuts/locknuts and washers.
petermadach - I agree that a bearing press is obviously the way to go. These videos were designed for the average rider who won’t have access to the more specialized tools. From personal experience I’ve had way more success with the rubber mallet than a home made press in terms of getting the bearing to set properly. However, I’d love to see your set up. If you’ve got pictures or a video then we could work together to give another option.

I have a Novatec Rear Hub on my MTB, and I'm switching to AN XD Driver but on the DT SWISS Ratchet LN Rear Hub End Caps don't maintain the proper Spacing with the Thru Axle. Is there a Kit to install to make that DT SWISS Rear Wheel compatible? I'd appreciate any feedback on this situation I'm in. Thanks in advance........
Hey man, so sorry for the delayed response. I usually get notifications when people comment but this one slipped through. The short answer is, I don’t know if there is a kit or not. You could try the conversion and then measure to find out what size end cap you need. Both notated and DT have multiple end caps. You could also just use a washer to make up the difference. It’s very ghetto but will get the job done.

Hello. How do you remove the thru axle from the body? I need to change the body bearings. Thank you.
Often you can just pull the thru axle out with your hand. You might need to to tap it through the hub using a socket with extension bar.
