IMO…. Steve was up against wayyy too much “competition” in the 80’s. Yet he surpassed them all with his enduring talent, rhythm, and vibes that always and forever will keep us connected to him.
This song was insanely ahead of its time. Synthesizer-dependent songs were still getting their start across the music industry. And to see a guy like Steve go all out and write and record music with synthesizers to this extent all on his own in his own small and desolate studio for Arc of a Diver was an amazing accomplishment that cannot be ignored. Recording your own music all by yourself was and still is hard enough. And that difficulty is escalated when you consider how limited synthesizers were at this time. But the fact that Steve himself was able to use these limitations to his advantage and create an entire album that passes the test of time on his own without any major help is just a testament to how much of a musical genius he is.
@@neilangus4401 especially nowadays and it's a shame because so many songs would sound so much better with some nice deep base and of course no auto-tune ever ever again
Nobody sings like Stevie Winwood I don't care if you put Eric Clapton with them no one seems like Steve Winwood especially Valerie or you got to roll with the baby that's my favorite you got to roll with a baby😇😙✝️☦🥰🥰🤩😍
Yes I know what you mean I'm 63 and when I first heard Stevie Winwood way back in the Spencer Davis band I couldn't believe that incredible voice and have always followed his career
Same. I'm 61 here, and AoaD just blew me away when it was released; every track is a keeper. It's one of those albums that leaves an imprint on your brain, laced with memories.
I'll soon be 73 and I absolutely love his voice, music, bass, organ (synthe when so) since 1965 ! and the funny thing is I am french !! Bass guitar is the fundation of a song. If not the whole thing collapses. And what a fantastic voice. Very deep as I love.
Because the "HALL" of fame is bogus. You have people honored in there that have nothing to do with rock and roll. Best Steve concert...Him and Eric Clapton together again: czcams.com/video/zanQN7Rys2g/video.html

Ahhh. 1981, in San Franciso one weekend, alone, no plans. Bought a cassette player/FM tuner, and this tape. Walked from one end of the city to the other and back, morning to evening on a beautiful sunny day, with this song and K-FOG playing in my head. I will never forget.
I'm late to comment, but absolutely! Always loved his voice, guitar & keyboard skills. This song was hands down one of my favorite 80's songs. What an era! Alot of great male singers back then who could actually sing.
This song is brilliant. So well written! A classic for eons. It deserves more accolades. I can listen to it over X2//// @0:28 the transition is mesmerizing in sound. Excellent
I bought Arc of a Diver Winwood 2nd Album In 1980 .Unbelievably, amazing talent. One man band. In my opinion he is most definitely one of the best singer songwriter ,multi instrumentalists of all time.
When I happened to listen to this piece, only in 1994, the voice seemed to me at the beginning just that of Phil Collins, instead I discovered that it is this great artist who is Steve Winwood able to make an album singing and playing all the main instruments , a great musician.
This record is 1980. Later in the decade he would make more albums. but there was a space before and after Arc Of A Diver. Arc was sort of a first-Winwood alone doing a lot of his stuff, funk, stuff that sounded sort of like Traffic, and a variety of styles. all withing the keyboard driven work of Steve. No one had really done anything like it previously. But that's Steve Winwood. He is not like anyone else. Music first, never into being a professional rock star.

Wynwood's Night Traincame out when I was in love and shortly thereafter I produced a beautiful wonderful son ... born out of real love and not a mistake he was definitely meant to be here and I knew it .
The guitar is Eric Clapton's style. Very talented guy. Plays perfectly guitar, keyboards, he's a songwriter and his voice is very good with perfect high tones.
Great groove love the intro Sets the scene of a black night, trains roaring down the track. Winwood mixes synth and plays a mean electric guitar. His voice full of soul and soars
Saw him on stage at the Manor in London when he was nineteen. When he sang John Lee Hooker's Dimples in Your Jaw like no white boy should have. A real prodigy, and sexy to boot.
This album somehow slipped past me. (I think we were busy with our very young children at that time.) So this is the first time I've ever heard this. Thanks for posting it. (You can't go wrong with Steve Winwood.)
The most imprinted memory I have of Stevie Winwood was the Arc Of diver album being played through the bands PA systems before live of concerts back in the late 70’s. Great times, great musician .😀
Arc of a diver and low spark of high heeled boys - the 2 perfect albums to listen to while working. Perfect mix of lo fi and melody that doesn't break your concentration but rather enhances it.
Hell of a musician in every sense of the word ! This is off of Arc of a Diver , brings back Great Memories. Steve Winwood ! Totally talented and Unique!
Amazing song, amazing musician. A true musical prodigy. Ever since Gimme Some Loving. And to think he was a teenager on that tune singing those soulful vocals. Amazing!
What a great travelin song, I'll bet I played this tune thirty str8 times in 1986 on that 567 mile trek from San Antone to Las Cruces NM on I-10. Such a great diversified artist, thank you little Stevie ! Still got that vision of you at 16 playing with Spencer Davis and that magical voice. Rock on
I made a similar drive in 1985, but it was Austin to El Paso. I originally started the drive in Falls Church, Va but stopped to see a friend in Austin for about 10 days. I bet u was headed to NMSU? I was on my way to UTEP!
He might be the most underrated rock star of all time.
Steve Winwood is phenomenal! Who's with me?
Played every instrument in it. One man show. I'm with you.
Rollo St. James I'm totally with you .What a great jam.

Night train from London to Edinburgh, my first time in Britain. Love from Spain ❤
Yes. Amazing that Steve played all of the instruments on this!
the funky bass and synth stuff is heaven ! 😄
Together with the rhythm of a diesel train.

The great Steve Winwood some musicians call the master.
I've been a fan since 1966. Stevie is probably the greatest musician of our generation.
Released as a single in the US in July 1981.
Steve Winwood decided when the 80's should start
This song is written for eternity, in fact it is not supposed to ever end.
Gerald,
Right you are -
Like a true night train!
Hes a spiritual church goin guy
Like Jim Capaldi said at Woodstock that Steve Winwood is by far the greatest musician on the planet.

Arc Of A Dive is truly a solo album. Steve not only sings but every instrument you hear is also played by him. A true artist.

I'm 65. Seen him live with Traffic in Pensacola Fla. Been a Winwood listener ever since. Like right now. Still.
Actually that was Conan O'Brien playing some of the musical instruments back in the day .
