    My husband, being a mechanic for over 30 years, could have skipped through until the parts that were relevant for him, but opted to view through the whole video so he could determine how good, or not, you were on the subject. He found it very informative and very well explained. He found you to be very knowledgeable and able to carefully and properly explain, step by step, what needs to be done, so that someone who isn't very knowledgeable in this area won't damage parts as they move/remove them. You made it simple to understand. You even got me interested enough to view it with him instead of walking away as I usually do. He thanks you for the great tutorial, and I do too, since now I can have my computer back.

    Great Job! Thank you. This helped me with the scan tool of course. I had P01320, I replaced the Ignition Condenser. Turned out it was not that. Two days later, the three lights back on the dash. Rescanned, P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire detected. I replaced the number 2 cylinder with a HITACHI IGC0026 coil. Car runs like a jet again! Use the Hitachi coils. No lights on. I hope my comment helps someone out. I have a 2002 infiniti I30t. Thanks Again.

    You do very good videos and you explain very well too.But when you test the power (+12V) at the harness of the coil and after at the harness of the condenser,if you put your black wire of multimeter on the ground of engine, you never test the ground wire of the harness of the coil and condenser .You should test the harness with the red probe on the pin 1 and the black probe on the pin 2.This way you test the 2 wires of the harness.Sorry for my english writing,it's my second language.Best Regards!

    This video was great. Had the infamous P1320 pop up on a scan recently, no misfires codes, so I said might be the condenser(after reading endless forums where no one mention changing it, only the emphasis about replacing all 6 coils to no avail). Even the dude at Nissan, told me when I replaced one coil($116), for one that broke two years back, that I need too replace all six. I didn't. The part is no more than $6-7 from Nissan dealership. Nissan needs too put out a new bulletin addressing this issue, or reimburse ppl smh. Many ppl have spent dollars trying too correct an issue that can be solved without replacing wire harnesses and ignition coils.

    Just a useful tip, if your Nissan oil is old and it's about time to change it, and let's be honest there are some miles, at least 190k miles on the engine, it burns oil is what I'm driving at(ha!driving-at) And if the oil gets dirty and low enough, it will affect the performance of the vehicle enough to throw this error. P1230 Change your oil and try resting the code, before anything.

    Pulling a P1320 on my 2000 Maxima. I had this code before a couple years back, and simultaneously also got a code for a misfire on the particular cylinder so it was easy to figure out which coil was shot. This time the code is showing up by itself.

    the 1320 code problem was a coil with lower resistance than the other ones nothing else. I have changed the coil condenser and made no difference. I let the car warm up for about 10 minutes and then check each coil and I noticed that coil number 4 had less reading it was under 6 while the rest of the coils were over 6 ohms. I had a coil to replaced the coil number 4 from autozone after installing it erased the code and had never come back.

    Had a p1320 (only) on my sentra. Did the wire test.... all the wires read good, for my application it didn't have the condenser (looked up online the part number for my year ..because nissan couldn't find it for my vin neither for 01 maxima..confirmed my vehicle didn't use a condenser), replaced my ignition coils with some oem hitachi from rockauto n spark plugs...test drove it "rollercoaster ride" got a p1320 n misfire bank 1... I think the misfire was from the pb blaster I used to soak the original spark plug in (long story) so swapped banks for the original coil n today found out that the misfire n p1320 is no more yet now have a p420 code for the converter or 02 sensor or both. Going to try that catalysts clean see what it does!

    Anyway, I noticed that the wire coming from the ECU to the knock sensor is stripping_ and I've replaced two sensors already and I'm still getting P0325 (97 Maxima) ...do you think it's possible there is no power going to the knock sensor connector hence causing the sensor not to work? Great video's and great explanations, I really enjoy!
    It's great and all that you show how the coil and condenser is getting power BUT, by touching the ground of your tester anywhere on the metal engine bypasses the what if----it's a ground problem.
    Not to undermine your thoroughness but if it is a ground problem you just missed it!

    I'm having an issue with my moms i30 as well. Only code it is throwing right now is the p1320 code. It has new plugs, new Hitachi coils, new cam position sensor and I replaced the condensor with a known good one. I have yet to check the wiring but I don't think that is the problem. Could it potentially be a dead injector? They look similar to s13 ka24de injectors which I've had experience in the past with them just dying out of nowhere.

  • @frenzy1396
    @frenzy1396 Před 9 lety +2

    Fantastic video! I'm a little worried however that your coil test is not "best" way to check coils. It seems as if your method only shows whether a coil is dead or not. However the code P1320 can pop up (and most of the time is) simply because the coil has the incorrect voltage at the ECM not the coil. This test is performed at the ECM inside the car, not at the coil itself. You have to "back probe" into each slot on the ECM that coordinates with a coil. At idle, you should read between 0-0.2V. At 2500RPM, you should read between 0.1 - 0.3 V. Most aftermarket coils have incorrect voltage values, most OEM coils are perfect. So for people that replace all 6 coils and spark plugs but are still having the code pop up can most probably be because they purchased non-OEM coils. Of course you can test them at the ECM before you ever even drive the car, some of the coils may be fine, some may not be.
    I have not performed this test yet but I will be attempting it tomorrow. I found all this information from a Maxima forum which I will post a link to.

    This is a great video. I have a low Millie 00 Sentra 1.8 that recently stalled on me while driving to the market. Towed it yo a shop and eventually this code appeared, after several tests on running it where we had no code to go by. I tested the connectors w my voltmeter and all read 11.9/ volts. Tested the coils as well and all read higher then 2.1. I Assume as you stated in the video all is w the coils?? Did some research and many state it could be the cam/crank sensor as this is common in sentras. Can't locate that igniter sensor you mention on my Sentra. Trying to purchase one online and can't find one either.

    CarsNToys Thank you, I found your video very informative and thorough. Perhaps you can help me a little further? It's time to register my 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE and a smog check is required. However, the vehicle won't pass smog because I have trouble codes p0304 (cylinder 4 misfire) and p1320 (DTC Definition Not Found) present. I watched your video and ran all the test. The test indicate that I am indeed receiving 12 volts from the battery, and to all six connectors. Each coil is showing resistance except the one on cylinder 4. So, I ended up replacing the faulty coil pack on cylinder 4 as well as all six spark plugs. This fix cleared the p0304 code and the car ran like a champ for a few days, but was still showing code p1320. So, I assumed the ignition condenser was the culprit because I wasn't getting a solid reading from it with my multimeter. The test would quickly display approximately 1943 ohms and disappear. I wasn't getting a steady reading like shown in your video. So, I assumed replacing it would clear the remaining code. I ordered a new ignition condenser through courtesy parts.com and it arrived within a week or so. I replaced the condenser with the new one and the car will no longer start. It cranks, but doesn't turn over. I tested the new condenser, and it too gives me a real brief reading (something over a thousand ohms). What gives? I tried putting the "old" condenser back in there and the car still won't start. I'm stuck, and baffled. Any thoughts/further direction. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Keep up the good work

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  Před 7 lety +1

      Check the crank sensor. A bad crank sensor will certainly inhibit the vehicle from starting. (P1320 can be caused by a bad crank sensor) Here's a video on the crank sensor - czcams.com/video/gJEN0AiLgEM/video.html
      Regarding the brief reading you're getting on the condenser, it's normal.

    • @nicholasnapier839
      @nicholasnapier839 Před 7 lety +1

      UPDATE: I've got the car running! I can''t say I've done anything other than disconnect the battery for a short while, and jiggle the connections. I think ultimately, the car went into some kind of security mode, after switching out the ignition condenser, and wouldn't start until I disconnected the battery for about an hour. Now, it runs, but the idle is a little rough and it reeks of gasoline. I think it's recalibrating itself. I drove it around the block a couple times just fine, but it'll stall out whenever I rev it too high. It's weird, but I'm optimistic it'll work itself out. Thank you for your video, and your response. I hope this input might help out someone else with the same problem in the future.

    I have a 1999 maxima I'm getting codes P1320 and P0304. The car will crank but not start. I have tested the ignition condenser the way you said. When I check it I get over 1900 with the leads one way and when I reverse them I get over 1600 on my meter. My question is when I test it with the leads it will only read once and then in order to get another reading I have to reverse the leads on the prongs in the condenser. Is this correct or should I be able to read it by touching the leads back to the same prongs in the condenser every time?

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  Před 9 lety +1

      Jim Friese The car would still start if the condenser was bad. It's really a safety device to catch large spikes of electrical current. P304 is misfire at the number 4 cylinder - the middle cylinder toward on the radiator side. The car should still start and run on five cylinders but I'd check each ignition coil.

The test you do at the end on the capacitor/condenser does it gradually go up to that number and then goes back to 0 or does it go to directly to that number and stays there. I think my 1320 code was based on replacing the coils with cheap ones as supposed to nissan brand but I ordered a new condenser and when I tested it it starts at 0 and comes up to 1.9m. Nice video. Im working on a vq30 that runs like crap. I tested them and got cyl 1 & 6 @1.0k and the rest at 1.7k (pins 2&3, coil resistance) however my shopkey Pro does not have rights to the specs of the coil resistance. wondering if youd have them & verified, an FSM maybe. (not my vehicle, i dont own an FSM.) I am a technician, just trying to get the specs somewhere since my best database is incomplete. Thanks!

    Good video!! Question, Last week the check engine light came on. The code was P1320. I reset the computer figuring it was a glitch. I took a trip yesterday on the parkway. The the check engine light came on again. It still runs very smooth, no misses. Wonder it can just be the condenser??? I had a full tank of gas. I filled up on gas again after the trip of like 70 miles and she got 30 mpg, I was surprised. Around town it ranges from 18 to 22 mpg. On my 2000 I30 the spark plugs have like 180,000 on them. ALTHOUGH, they might have been changed over time, I am not sure since it was my moms car. Can old plugs cause the P1320 code? Thanks!

Can this condensor cause the car to not start? Thanks. I have a new condensor on the way just covering my basis.

    I have a 2002 Nissan maxima it just suddenly dies, it may take it a bit to start back up then its ok for a while then a month later it will do it again. I got a code p1320.. I also got the cam sensor I for get what code that was I don't have my notes with me. So with this p1320 code what does the car do when one of those are bad, how does it react.

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  Před 7 lety +2

      P1320 could certainly stall the car and/or keep the car from starting. A bad cam sensor will certainly stall a vehicle as well. You'll have to do a little work to determine where the problem is. I do have a video regarding the cam sensor - czcams.com/video/38N47i84obI/video.html

      I am having the same issue with my 2000 Nissan Maxima with codes p0304 (cylinder 4 misfire) and p1320 (DTC Definition Not Found. I replaced the coil pack on cylinder 4 and all six spark plugs. This cleared code p0304 and the car drove like a champ for weeks. However, code p1320 is still present, so I assumed I should replace the ignition condenser because I wasn't receiving a good reading with my multimeter. It would flash a quick reading (something over a thousand ohms) and disappear. i ordered a new ignition condenser through courtesy parts.com and replaced it, hoping to clear the code, but now the car won't even start. It seems other people are experiencing the exact same issue. Did I do something wrong? Where should I go from here? Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
