    Why did the iodine diffuse into the starch solution starting at the bottom left and working its way up?

    • @sci-inspi
      @sci-inspi  Před 5 lety +17

      Most of the iodine sank down to the bottom, so there was a higher concentration on the bottom which speeds up the iodine diffusion.

    What happened in terms of molecular size and relative concentrations? Need this explanation for my Bio class.

    • @GOGEDIT
      @GOGEDIT Před 2 lety +5

      easy the concentration within the permeable membrane was less therefore the iodine diffused in due to have a small molecular size. The starch was unable to diffuse out as the molecular size was to large to pass through the membrane. The iodine reacted with the starch creating a blue black color within the tubing only

      Yes, warming up the water will increase the diffusion rate.

    Why did the starch molecules not diffuse out of the dialysis bag?

    • @mahnoorbukhari5968
      @mahnoorbukhari5968 Před 3 lety +1

      because the dialysis bag is semi-permeable so the starch molecules are large and can't come out but water molecules are small so they can be passed through it and so the iodine passed as well. hope answered the question.

  • @serenastoddart301
    @serenastoddart301 Před 4 lety +1

    Sorry to ask AGAIN. What do you think would happen if the beaker got larger? so interested

    • @sci-inspi
      @sci-inspi  Před 4 lety +1

      If the beaker is larger, not much will change. But if there is more water in the beaker, that will dilute the iodine and slow the rate of diffusion.
