Jo Brand's "No and I don't think the lights are on either" floors me every time!
Same LMAO!
😂
She says "era dujon kirom bandor er moton dariye ache" which means, "these two are standing there like monkeys" 😂😂😂
Thank you❤😂😂😂😂
Is that Pakistani? Or maybe Indian?
😂😂😂😂
It's meant to be a comedy but those of us who work in hospitals will just recognise this as the most life-like series ever made for TV.
Yep
I saw this and instantly thought of my mum (patient) and my experiences. I'm Asian
Especially the matron and the doctor giving different instrutions and then shouting at the nurses when they inevitably do the wrong thing.
Yes and us who have visited relatives and witnessed similar would agree.....not sure my idea of comedy.....sorry probably would need to watch more than just this..🥴 but lov Jo
I loved how language line is suggested at 0:45 and then promptly forgotten.
At least they have a language line, in many countries if you have a patient who doesn't speak the language you are forced to google translate it
"Has she seen the lunch menu, was that gammon?"..."We really tranquilizing someone that's just talking a bit loud?...we're looking at the best interests of the patient here" lol
lol at the patronising smile at 0:04, so accurate!!!
This programme was just superb. Cleverly written and totally funny. A real treat. Please enjoy.
She's not a patient. She's the hospital manager having a bit of a lie down on her lunch break. :)
“Can we really tranquilize someone that’s talking a bit loud?”
That was a glimmer of hope.
@@carmengeorgeweddings3906 LOL
We're looking at a uti
I'm going to listen to your chest its not tranquility her. Distress
I love how she said 'The fact is there aren't any facts' without it seeming like a joke
I like the way the Dr has to 'translate' from nurse to student Drs - so lifelike!!!!
Such a brilliant show. I'd forgotten just how funny it is and how closely it resembles hospitals in the UK. I was a nurse in the 80's/90's and some of the things I saw would have been perfect for this.
I've meet so many doctors just like this.
True, accurate portrayal
i love how Kim is standing there with her knitting
1:07 'Kim, is there anyone home?' 'No and I don't think the lights are on either' Comedy gold and almost snuck past unnoticed... I googled it and turns out to be a 2009 series, does anyone know how I can watch them online?
K_ C I know this is a really late reply, but the only place I can find it is to buy it on iTunes, but you do get three series for £14, it’s ever so funny!
I'm trying to find a way to watch it from the US without much luck.
@@sarcasticallyrearranged this is late but all seasons are on HBO now
@@sarcasticallyrearranged hulu
I don’t know how and why I didn’t catch this when it was on TV, it’s absolutely brilliant. Watching on Hulu now from the US. The writing is outstanding.
This is exactly what working for the NHS is like. Read into that what you will
Jo brand dropping the one line lol no lights are on either
Paddy's Bricks she is a horrible piece of work.
I
@@sempereadem54eadem64 what do you mean?
I've done 20 years in the nhs and this is spot on
I’ve been working for the NHS for over a year and this echoes what I've seen on the wards. You get issues with language barriers and other communication problems and there are some staff who're out of their depth and some who just can't be arsed
Watching this on Hulu has been such a treat. I'm so thankful I found it. Not only does it seem really real, but it's comedy gold. Jo is hilarious!!
This is so funny I am crying. I love how no one actually really cares, like is "present" or is actually really caring, but they look like they're doing their job. And how jo is the only one who has the common sense yet she is the lowest in status on the staff. Also I love how the guys have a sneer on their face when they mention UTI, and they're meant to be doctors. Much to love :P
"The fact is there aren't any facts". I love that line
As a bengali interpreter,i enjoyed this very much 😂
Ohmygodness, is there any way you might bless us with some translations of what she is saying??
Is her name Barry?
@@pussycats456 No. Bari in bangla means home. All the while she just keeps explaining to them she wants to go home
@@pussycats456 and then says she wants gari, which means car. She's saying hire a car, i want to go home
@@spaztron5000 at first she was like i want to go home, if i stay here I might die. Then when the nurses are blabbering, she says, they are standing over there like monkeys(the guys). Then she says, give me my clothes or i will leave in this gown (All the while the nurses n docs thinking that she might be confused . Then she says she wants to home (bari) and to hire her a gari (which is care). In the end she's complaining, no body is listening to her
I remember I was in hospital overnight once, I had a panic attack, the consultant came round next day with her students, she was talking to them about me very loudly as if I wasn’t there, they are so rude
Why were you in hospital for a panic attack?
Brilliant (& disturbingly real!)
Getting on one of the funniest series I've seen in a very long time. We need more please get writing more episodes. X
“Is that gammon? Has she seen the lunch menu?”
Brilliant 😂😂😂
So funny 😂 I worked on wards for the elderly for several years and this is spot on
"Has she seen the lunch menu, was that Gammon" 🤣
Yeah I don't get that joke, can you explain to a thicko like me
Andy they're trying to recognise anything that sounds like British language. They think they heard her said Gammon/bacon, hinting that she may be hungry. Personally I found it funny cause why would she be saying that, cause Indians don't eat it
she is speaking bengali. Gari means car.
Thank you.
"the fact is, there aren't really any facts"
hahaha
This British version is just so much better than the American version. I wish someone would put the entire British series on CZcams.
British tv is superior in general
This whole series is hysterically funny.
The doctor states that "the patient is confused "....... classic subtle british comedy when the patient is the only one not confused
It is so pleasing to hear your mother tongue within a sea of foreign languages. Today I understood, how much I love the Bengali language. Thank you Peter "Malcolm Tucker" Capaldi, you made my day.
What is the woman saying?
This scene is so dark and funny. For those who don't know, this series was adapted to an American setting, starring Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein, and Niecy Nash. Guests over the three year run (HBO) included Mary Kay Place, Jean Smart, Molly Shannon, Frances Conroy, Rita Moreno, and Rhea Perlman.
Estoy viendo la versión americana y me dije, no ellos no pueden ser así de brillantes busque y resulta que es de la bbc pensé: obviamente!!!! Bravo bbc lo volvieron hacer!
Lol @ speaking "Indian"
Lol 😂 love it!!!
This is the most accurate portrayal of any NHS hospital...ever
JO BRAND!!!!!
Fucking. Legend.
The accuracy of the bureaucracy of socialized medicine
She is speaking in Bengali Language with a Indian Accent. Most likely lived in Calcutta, now known as Kolkata.
It says everything about England: trying desperately to be nice while not having a clue, but terrified of offending.
Right away I caught her saying, she is Bangladesh !
Jo brand standing there with a ball of wool! 🙂
This is a fabulously funny show!
I am convinced Kim is a real nurse n you can’t tell me otherwise
Ha ha that's why we should have 1 launguage
AMAZZZING HUMOUR LOVE IT :)
She was saying that she just wants to go home in her car she was speaking bengali
OMG! She's speaking Bengali.Saying she would probably die anyway if she stays there. She will run away.Just bring her the clothes or she will run away covered in sheet.Plz let her go home.
yes she is
***** Glad I could help 😊
Shramana Rakshit The patient was also saying 'the two over there are standing like monkeys' 😂😂😂😂😂😂 hahaha I am dying
Ive always wondered what she was saying!
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 the translation makes it all better
Plz tell me Capaldi can also speak a few Bengali phrases. That would be awesome!
I love how she redines sedating a patient who is just talking, upset noone understands her.
Yeah its for her benefit!
Amusing for a comedy, but sad statement on hospitals, nursing homes.
Sadly true at times.
I just re-watched the American version on HBO Max and personally like it better. Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein and Neicy Nash are comedy gold!
It is London
Incompetence springs to mind.
Bengli 😂😂
Do all NHS wards look like Soviet era Russia lol 😂
shes speaking bengali dhakayi dialect
What is she saying?
Hilarious
Where can I get full episodes, please? I'd gratefully pay my pension
hulu
I know ghaari is a car but don’t what else she said
Another British show America tried to replicate.
And in my opinion, failed at.
ok
0:03 It's Bengali language. That is the main language of Bangladesh.
She is speaking Bengali
😂😂😂🤦♀️🤦♀️
lol BBC comedy about BBC xdxddxdxdxd
>BBC Comedy Greats.
Hmm, no, not really.
Why are they so patronizing? It is gut-wrenching to watch.
So embarrassing pronunciation. Even newsreaders. Pakistaaaaan. Afghanistaaaaan. Make an effort to get it right.
it's a tv show and they were supposed to sound like that... it's the whole joke of it.
Its a comedy
Jo brand that piece of rubbish.Stick your Britbox.
the American remake is much better
definitely not. the US version is a sitcom, while the UK version is reality tv. in the UK version the dialog does not sound rehearsed.
No.
American version is definitely much funnier
No - you don't get the British sense of humour which is far superior
Well said Patrick Ross
British comedy is always cringy
Hilarious
