In the end I like to think our protagonist and Amelia go back to the cafe where he met Aberdeen, they eat pie and drink coffee. Then he tears up the list of rules, get another dog, live a boring normal life happily ever after.
I like to think instead, they live that boring life for a little while but the rotting jungle from the ashes gives birth to a kingdom of hate. It spreads from the burnt rotten core, its roots infest the spires of concrete and the dominion of man. All that man kept sacred for eons ripped away by a new kingdom of darkness. Now Amelia and the New guy with his dog wander through an violet apocalypse with an uncertain future ahead of them.
I imagine the news unfolds slowly like a flower slowly unfolding its petals before blossoming and spaying its pollen. The news reports of foliage turning bright colorful colors, this brings joy but then pollen from alien flowers burrows its seeds into the bodies of many turning them in shambling plant like husks of what once used to be human. The rippling affect of this spreading alien jungle mutates everything into fantastical horrors almost like in Annihilation but on steroids. People cower in their broken homes, to fend off hordes of the Shamblers, mutated animals once familiar to mankind twisted into new beautiful and terrifying forms. Maybe the protagonists new dog is affected by this mutation, but still clings onto the love of its trusting owners as a ferocious monstrous hound of hell.

There is an unlocked bunker under the tower. Bunker hatches only lock internally. With the owner out of it and dead, it's unlocked. They could get in and wait for the forest fire to burn itself out.

Alternate ending:
As Mike and Amelia felt the hot wind at their back, they scrambled up a short embankment. Mike then shoots A-sharp glance to the right then to the left and realizes he has found the road out. The raging inferno created its own weather, blowing the flames back on itself, allowing Mike and Amelia to get distance from the flames. The race from death slowed to a trot, then a determined walk. Heavy breathing gave way to conversation. Mike reaches for amelia's hand Taking it in his amelia Gently squeezes Mike suddenly feels a tingling in his hand which started to run off his wrist and started to pull away Amelia tighten her grip Like a vice Her eyes turning into a dead stare. Mike started to panic. Amelia said it would be uncomfortable for only a moment. Then everything went black. When Mike woke up instead of flames, there was a thick blanket of snow covering everything. How long have I been out? Amelia's voice suddenly answered from behind a large tree, saying, for a season. Your transformation is now complete. You now serve me. Mike looked down at his feet only to see thick bark. Only then, realizing amelia was not behind the tree, amelia was the tree...🫨

Love these rules stories. One suggestion, put the "list of rules" first in the title (ex: I fold a list of rules to survive in the look out tower left by a dooms day prepper from 'murica) wish you nothing but winz

Good story. I was hoping for a few more days of following the rules (maybe even writing some more new ones) to get more invested, otherwise good
My ending: They escape the forest and make it onto the main road onto a bus stop. They take the next available bus back into town, and on the bus ride back they quickly become attached to each other. After they get back to town, they take a plane far away from that place, get married in the suburbs near where his parents live, and raise a family of their own.
The end.

Love the music at the end. I think he did all those thing and then epic battles the queen dying and seeing Alabama as Amelia holds him and cries and as she stops crying she becomes something else. She becomes The Ending.
