I think you could carry the second color across the row like you do in tapestry crochet. You would "lock" it every other stitch. Then you would lock the main color every other stitch while the second color is in front. I tried it and it makes a much neater back of the fabric and less likely to snag.

Thank you so much for this video, and for rescuing me for a project that uses stranded colorwork holding 2 yarns together! I decided I didn’t like the looks of straight crochet and decided Tunisian was my ticket. I have your book spread out and then started. I soon got into trouble, remembering you are the Queen of Tunsian. Your videos are so good, thank you so much!

I used to do the color work but the backside would always snag because of the floats and holes. I never heard of locking the float. I hand embroidery the items in instead of color work. It took a long time. I ended up not enjoying it and stopped. I just might try it again with your method. I now wish i hadn't gotten rid of my tunisian hooks. Thank you so very much for sharing

  • @MaryNewhallMoondarlinCrafts

I like this but not the back, which is why I cut my yarn and have a bobbin for each color, gives the back a cleaner look and wont think about using something to cover it up. my profile pic of Olaf I did in Tunisian and wish I had taken a pic of the back so you could see what I mean. Otherwise, great video, I love all your videos and your nails!

Was there a specific software you used for this? Also, how would you scale this up for larger letters/design etc? TIA

I'm not sure what she used, but for graph-type patterns in the past, I've just used Microsoft Excel (or free variants like Google Sheets) as a quick and dirty solution. You can edit the default cell sizes and make them squares, then just use highlighting to fill them in. Far from ideal, but it works!

You can trim it off or what she does is she will weave them in the back of the project. I recommend weaving it in.

Is it possible to do this technique to add a name in the midst of the honeycomb Tunisian crochet stitch?

  • @robbiejcosplaycraftsdesign175

How would you change with more than 2 colors? Or how would you change if your pattern ends up needing to change on the end? I’m working on an argyle pattern, so ever so often the color blocks will move to the ends.

  • @laureenmaceachern3318

Great video! I’ve done some Tunisian and graphed a pattern on standard square graph paper but found my stitches were about 25% taller than they were wide which threw off my final dimensions. I’d love any thoughts you have on how to fix this or do you know of graph paper that’s 1 x 1.25. Thanks so much!!!

Hi! Sounds like you need to adjust your row gauge, which you can do my tightening down on your loop when you pull up loops to make your stitches.
