- Jaque Fourie was the complete midfielder. When you look at footage of him, you can just marvel at the way he could cut into a defensive line. He ran straight and he had size and speed to boot, so that made him difficult to stop. But on top of his attacking capabilities, we was the player who often organized the defensive structures for the teams he played in.
What a player.

Best SA midfielder since Gerber, and arguably the best 13 in the world in the modern era. Look at how many of his tries were scored from near impossible positions. If you had to put money on a guy holding off three defenders and the touchline, it would be Jaque Fourie. That match winning try against the Lions at 9:13 (may Ronan O'Gara rest in peace) sums up Fourie's career beautifully. And these are just the attacking plays. He was an absolute beast on defense. All time Bok great. Broke my heart to see him in a Stormers jersey :)

@@robbiejohnston3174 im a South African and Odriscoll is my favorite Irish (overseas) player of all time and one of my favorite players of all time he was definitely one of the best but Fourie is also fantastic one of the best centres of all time

I’ve had the awesome privilege to have met him. In my books one of the best 13’s in world rugby. His power and speed made him stand out. He score tries, but the way he organized a defensive line made him the best 13, clear and open communication.

One of the centre I look forward to during his playing years. Arguably one of the greatest Springboks centre. Sad he call his time in rugby way too early when decided he join the Japanese club. His partnership with JDV should have been a mega blockbuster for years against Nonu-Smith.
These are the players born to play rugby to a standard at the highest level of excellence, Jacques Fourie, Danie Gerber, Carel du Plessis, Rob Louw, Duanne Vermeulen, Joost vd Westhuizen, Henry Honiball, Fourie du Preez....
Thanks for this, Fourie is my most fav centre of all time. Best SA centre ever to be honest.
Default Better than Gerber?
In the professional era yes, he was just about always in the right place at the right time. Also didn't mind any physical collisions, that's how a centre should be. There's a try of him in super 14 vs crusaders that was amazing, check it out :)
