It saddens me that people in the modern age are so overly sensitive that they forget that cultural stereotypes were originally meant to make people laugh at cultural absurdities as well as laugh at the concept of cultural assumptions. In short yes they were meant to be somewhat offensive but in a comedic sense not an oppressive sense.

This is just flat-out, absolutely hysterical. I feel like I need to watch this a couple of times a year just to keep my comedic chi properly grounded or something. One of the absolute funniest scenes I've ever seen in a movie -- and a staggering showcase of Eddie Murphy's talents.

Meh I've seen far worse stereotypes. Watch machete the low rider scene is great. And Tyler Perry's depiction of Madea is so cringey that it actually escalates to hilarity. It saddens me that people in the modern age are so overly sensitive that they forget that cultural stereotypes were originally meant to make people laugh at cultural absurdities as well as laugh at the concept of cultural assumptions. In short yes they were meant to be somewhat offensive but in a comedic sense not an oppressive sense.
