When the government spilt into a two party system (which George Washington advised us against) there was the federalist and democratic Republicans. Eventually the federalist party faded away and the democratic republican party split. But at the time it was like switching from being a republican to a democrat because he could get on the senate buy doing so. Aaron Burr was an opportunist and would follow whatever path brought him more power.

More like switching from a liberal i.e. liberal application of government to a conservative

@@hcf4kd1992yes I would say it’s more like a liberal to a conservative, but I don’t think the original commenter was worried about any specific order i think he was just giving an example like how it would be in the real world

That's the great thing about "Hamilton":
    1. Your first viewing is to completely demolish your disbelief that a historical rap musical about the country's founding can be so good.
    2. Your second viewing is to take in an even fuller measure of these outstanding performers and catch all the lyric and thematic cues you missed in the first viewing.
    3. Your third viewing is when you begin to marvel at the ab-so-f'ing brilliance of the staging and the whole company of dance performers.
    4. Then if you're like the rest of us, your next viewings (plural and ad infinitum) will be just because you can't stop enjoying how good it all is!!

This was during the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror where France was literally destroying itself. But Anglica Scyler actually tried to help Laffyatte when he was imprisoned.

Another Great Reaction!! As for your question- Historically Burr was a democratic republican (wanted a weak central government with each state having more power for themselves vs. the federalists like Hamilton wanting a strong federal government) for his entire political career, but this scene highlights how much of an opportunist Burr really was. The thing that Burr historically wanted more than anything was power. Burr may have been officially a democratic republican, but he conspired with federalists to try and start a “northern confederacy” that would have British support. Hamilton was a federalist strongly against it and helped in stopping it. This mixed with Hamilton being part of destroying Burrs chance for presidency led to the famous duel and really showed Burr to be little more than an opportunist in the political realm at the time. He was even tried for treason by Jefferson.

And like his murder, he got away with it by a technicality. Burr was a scumbag. A power-hungry, greedy scumbag and thief who basically married a rich widow in his second marriage to steal her money and waste it on bad real estate investments until she divorced him. And Karma was in full flow in that trial, with the lady hiring Hamilton's son, Alexander Hamilton, Jr. as her divorce lawyer, and he won. Burr died broke and alone, as he deserved.

Let's just say that...uh...Jefferson was a little *too* enamored with the French Revolution (even threatening to bring a guillotine to the US, and not as a museum piece, if you get my meaning) and tried to deny that the Terror that followed, where the new "government" just started to behead more and more people til they were down to killing people just for doing what people do all the time since time immemorial: complain about the government, was even happening. Later, though, he admitted it was happening, but tried to claim it wasn't as bad as people were making out.

Like Vivian, I was amazed at different things with each watch. But the staging was one of the first things I noticed and loved. In the beginning when My Shot takes you from the tavern out to the street then by The Story Of Tonight gets you back into the tavern so seamlessly, both Cabinet Battles, and by my third watch I had to keep myself from getting caught up in it to concentrate on the transition from The Reynolds Pamphlet into Burn. (Where did all those papers go? 😊)

there were two main parties taking shape in the early days of the republic. the Federalists (mostly aligned with Hamilton, and sorta aligned with Washington, though he never played political games or took a side, the federalists lined up behind Washington pretty regularly) and the Democratic-Republicans (Thomas Jefferson). Hamilton was a Federalist in fact he might have been the most responsible for creating the party as a counterbalance to Thomas Jefferson.
The Federalist party would die under the John Adams presidency when Adams got into a fight with them, and later Hamilton was killed. they would resurface as the Whig party mostly due to John Adam's influence after the death of Hamilton. The Democratic-Republicans would shorten the name to the Democratic Party (the same one that exists today). eventually the whig party would die after the election of Andrew Jackson in the 1820s... it sorta dies a slow death though, lasting until the 1840s or so. In it's place rises an abolitionist party by the name of the Republican Party (yes, same party that exists today)

I mean, mostly everything I’ve started isn’t finished. I have fans of so many different things on here if I produce too much of one thing people get upset. Trying to find a balance is difficult. I try and upload 3 videos per day and most topics get covered once or twice per week. I can try and produce Hamilton Twice a week which is what I’m working my way up to. I’ll have another video out Thursday! If I did it it all at once whats the fun in that! It actually gives me something to look forward to. I know it sucks waiting but to me it makes it better. I feel like the content becomes diluted when it’s too frequent. Thoughts?
