What a time capsule!! His knowledge is worth his weight in gold!! With Michael did you always count the number of kicks off the wall? Just wondering if his 15 meter underwaters were an evolution in his training.

this video is so good! i wish someone had shared this with me when i was younger. it wasn't always known that dolphin kicks are the 5th stroke and can be used to such advantage. great job putting this together!

I wonder if and how Bowman's training methods changed between Phelps and Marchand

They seem much the same, the major difference is that Phelps now has a major hand in the coaching. Wouldn’t be surprised if most of marchands evolutions are a direct result of Michael coaching.

Michael is using the older butterfly. I was thinking how awesome it would be for him to use the new one.

At that point of his career he wasn't training with weights. So, he was relatively weak. That's why he was droping his torso that deep. By doing that he could output more power with his stroke. If you take a look at his most recent years, you will see that he wasn't doing that anymore. That man is a genius.

It is about chest press and soft hands to lower resistance force. In competitions he always has lowest splash among other swimmers. Too much splash means energy loss and there are force to push you back. Watch Milak you will see he has the same style as Phelps.
