Wow, I did not see that ending coming with the modular set up using two of these sets. Absolutely genius! So that's why there's that random gap in the corner of the 3rd build, so it can accommodate the hinge of the 1st build.
Alot of Creator sets force us to buy 3 of the same sets to make it something better or upgrade or such. Even Technic sets starts the same stuff buy two sets and you can make a super car or super bike.... Really i don't get it, why can't Lego simply put the 2,3 sets together for a friendly price .
Exactly. But I like it. Personally I like modular buildings a lot, but I don't want to spent a lot money on this. Smaller creator sets like this are good substitute for bigger and more expensive buildings.
Bart B I have the cafe bike shop set and the corner deli, that I use for my Lego city. The modular ones are a lot of work and around up to $300 USD, the lego death star is like $349 USD.

I like how much detail the designer has managed to push in. Did you notice how each of the builds suggests different combinations of minifigure parts? Thoughtful.

when it is open like that on the first build, its definitely encouraging you to fill in what's in between there, I can definitely imagine what would be in the rest of the rooms there! I guess they call it creator for a reason :3

I didn't think about connecting the smaller build to the main build. I was planning on getting a second one to fill in the main build, so I will see what it looks like with that addition before tearing them down for parts. Very nice set.
I just built this set. I like the window details with the wedges and love the skylight technique. Lots of good colors in this set and it will go well with the Bike Shop/Cafe and Toy/Grocery sets. They need to include brick separators though whenever they give us a 3 in 1.
Yeah and also enough with Nexo Knights, Minecraft, Architecture, 50% of the Ninjago are garbage , Star Wars way too expensive for whats offered , Batman the movie silly sets ( the only two worth to have sets are Jokers Lowrider and Pinguin Car just for car lovers and nostalgic purpose ) . Lego City needs to evolve to be more "a city" and not offer us the same over and over every year a new stupid police station or fire station and no needed small sets ( a big need in a hospital, in some villa's or houses, or stores ) . So want to see Forestmen, Pirates, Space, Kingdom, Castles again ....guess young generation kids don't dream about being a pirate or a spaceman anymore ....sigh...
Hey Jang! Have you ever thought of doing a top 10 best lego sets of the year type video? I know I personally would enjoy one! Perhaps consider price per piece, look of it, and play value in your rankings. I don't know, it's just an idea.

I must say, this is a pretty decent looking set, I am liking the almost modular feel to it but I feel like it would fit right in with the modular I just to add some different buildings. May pick this up when it goes on sale, great video though!
I like the set, because it's small but manages to take shape of something larger; however, the five bags that come with it aren't separated by section! You just have to dump em all out, instead of having them conveniently numbered. Whoop-de-do.
Jang, I very much appreciate your reviews - always very well done. One suggestion: On the Creator builds, would you at least show the pile of extra pieces for the two secondary builds; just to give an idea of other potential options/changes and overall scope?
Brilliant review Jang, I like it how you point out that multiple versions of this set can be combined into a new one. I think this is the first time that LEGO has done this with a set, so I am wondering, will there be more sets like this in the future that have the option of 'converting' them to go along with the bigger modular buildings?
What my friend did with the first version is he took off the big sandwich and put the two building prices side by side to make more of an apartment that you can put in between corners
I really like sets like this and the previous ones. from this set I like both the first and second build. With two you can build both and connect them to create a little street scene
I've been waiting for this video from you great job as always. This must really be a busy time of year for you! Keep up the great work. I don't buy a set without watching your review of it. Lego should really take note and give you a paycheck or at least discounted lego!
If you bought a few of these, (3 atleast) take and build each version, take the sub shop, remove the front corner, and place the town house, place the flower shop as you see fit, might look pretty decent... haven't bought this yet but may go pick it up today and try that setup, would work great for a residential area market in your lego village
If I was building this, I would switch the solid wall and the windowed wall on the second build. When folded out, it would look nicer if there are windows that are facing the outside.
Absolutely my all time favorite *looking, Lego Set, for displayability its perfect you have 3 great options. For play its not so great, the only things inside worth note is the sandwich grill and lounge chair.
It looks really nice, only complaint is that it has an open back and it might be a bit difficult to fill in since the pieces in those colors are fairly expensive, cool set though!
I was wondering if you are planning to show off the Lego city anytime soon? I would like to see what updates and additions you have added to it. Also is this set going in as well or will you be customizing it?
Yeah it's not very big but it's roughly 1/4 the price of a really large set and it still captures at least some of the 'feel' those sets offer at a moderate price. The first 2 forms are nice but the "Small Townhouse" looks like a watchtower. ^_^ I'm happy Creator includes smaller buildings as I just can't afford to drop $200-300 on a Modular building.
I like this set's apartment but I think the toy and grocery shop's looks better because the way to get up there is on the outside and because the apartment from this set has no bed.
Looks like a poor man's Parisian Restaurant, so a "must buy" for me. I can always use more bricks in the same rare color.

That 8x8 build looks pretty silly from the outside, but the other variants are actally pretty nice.

I sorted the pieces by color it made it a lot easier.

I think my favourite build out of the 3 is the 3rd one. Maybe because of the cozyness of it. idk
You should get more of these and make a street with terrace houses on and put it in your city!

You can make it a street by taking out the corner filler piece and making the corner a straight line then putting the corner filler piece a the end.

Feels like you might need to buy 2 or 3 to fully flesh it out. Seems decent enough for the price though.
