As Easy as 1-2-3: My First mini-ITX build!

  • I build my first ever mini-ITX build and put the ROG Strix 3080 to the test! I also announced the winner of the Flat Back Odyssey Challenge #RepublicOfGamers #ASUSPCDIY #RTX3080
This is actually my second build ever, and my first time building in a mini-ITX enclosure! It took me 5-6 weeks to build the threadripper build: • $30000 USD INSANE SIM ...
and it got me thinking what the simplest build would be like. So, this time around, I opted to go with pre-made parts like the CPU AIO and not waterblocking the ROG Strix 3080.
The Z11 was also unique because it came with the fans already built in and a extension hub that made accessory connections way simpler. The angled motherboard tray also created a unique working environment for cable management and the all metal x glass surface on the case just elevated the whole experience. Once I was finished, I was SO happy with the way it turned out.
If I were to change anything, I’d probably have swapped the top case fans and AIO fans for Corsair QL RGB fans. But for the sake of this build, I kept things as out of the box as possible. Also, it was such a small enclosure, I didn’t necessary want to give up the quietness of the Noctua fans simply for more RGB.
All in all, the initial benchmark testing on my sim racing set up have been absolutely phenomenal. It’s bonkers to think that this build outperformed my custom Maingear build that cost over $20,000. But it’s also exciting because with parts like this project readily available, anyone could take their time gathering up the components and the build could be done in an evening!

The amount of effort it took to film and edit all this was probably significantly more effort than it took to actually build the computer. Great work!!

The extension hub has 2x 9 pin USB headers on it, you could have just plugged that extra in to the actual hub, leaving 1x open headers.

Great video. A few tips for anyone taking on building your own PC.. CPU... be very gentle, they go in one way only, bend just one pin on the socket and you could finish off the motherboard. Thermal paste as you said, pea size only, if it overflows, you'll destroy CPU socket. ESD. electro static discharge, certain clothing and environments can create static. This can destroy CPU and Dimm. Esd strap helps, earth yourself before working and finally, don't touch dimm/Ram contacts, hold from sides only. Final tip, put loose loop in your power cable to your PC. In thunderstorm, if your socket gets hit, your cable loop might mean your cable burns out but not entire PC.
