I have a server right now running at 129 celsius on the CPU. I'm pretty sure it's just broken sensor driver, but it looks intimidating on the management screen.

That shitty wiring at 6:14 is what the ethernet ports in my wall are by my TV, and when I got my internet installed the bloke told me those sockets only go up to 100MB, so he'd need to install my router elsewhere in the flat, which is now super convenient :( Atleast this place is a rental

although, the better choice would have been to put as much of that cable in conduit, even if inside a wall, to reduce the chances of someone drilling into it. a few cables, not really a major repair, but this cable routing method is just asking for trouble and can be costly.
I almost had this happen to me, but with a way bigger drill. This guy was about to make a 30cm hole (about a foot) in a wall without checking what's on the other side. He was working directly above a door that led to the other side. I had to tell him to stop. He would have triggered the fire alarm for the whole factory, because he would have cut its cable.

Lexi was the first person I thought of, even before our own IT, when I saw an invoice earlier today. Server room (always locked) overheats because it's on the same A/C as offices. Solution is to leave the server room door open. New construction in 2019. No thought for hardware.
Fun fact! I lost Internet last Thursday to a tech support gore thing. Suddenly, the Internet cut out while the electrical company was digging out a root that had crushed our water main (because the cables needed to be removed for the plumber to fix the pipe. I went out to let them know. Lo and behold - they nicked the Internet coax.
At least it wasn't a fiber line, so you didn't have to completely replace it. Hopefully they didn't screw you over, it's entirely possible to splice coax. (Although it is difficult)
@@nikkiofthevalley Yeah, the coax got spliced back together. Still was a whole thing. That day started at like 7:30, and ended about... 17:30. Had to call a plumber, plumber needed us to get the main pipe located in case further, more drastic things occurred, had to call the electrical company and 811 (811 didn't come by until the next day), the plumber came back when the electrical company came by, they agreed to work together the next day. Thought that was it. Electrical company suddenly arrived about 15:00 to move the cables out of the way and saw away the root, and the man in charge of that group was upset at everyone else despite everyone else agreeing to doing it the next day. And that's when the coax got cut so I had to call the Internet company.
Tech support gore has happened twice in my neighborhood in the last 2yrs taking out the internet for 2-5 days each time.
The first time, I think it was electrical company, were digging out small pilot holes or something and severed the connection.
The second time, the landscaping company for our apartment ran it over with a lawnmower... yeah. Turns out when they replaced the line the first time, they never actually dug it in. So it'd just been laying in the grass along the parking lot, the sidewalk, and our neighbors backyards for months till the mower that comes each week finally got a lucky angle, looking like the thick ass cable had been run into a blender or garbage disposal.
And then like 10yrs ago the internet suddenly went out and the lights flickered, so I looked out my back window only to see flames shooting 10ft+ into the air from our neighbors souped up truck that'd burst into flames and been pushed out into the alley away from the house and cars( the bumper of their roommates car still melted). FD didn't even think about it till we pointed out our internet had gone out and the low hanging lines literally like 15-20ft above the truck and they went "OH yeah, huh..." and they called the city or telecom company to repair it.

1:43 there's a setting on some phones where you can choose what % you get a low battery notification at. While it usually gives you specific options to choose from, I would not be surprised if some phones just used a slider or an input field and forgot to set it up so 100% isn't an option.
This also can happen with some notifications if you charge the phone while it is displayed. It will not auto-dismiss because it's selected, but it will show the live percentage and not the value from when the notification was created.
That was my phone at 1:32 and It was a glitch after I turned it back on and off the notification went away

11:20 that notification bar is from the Kasperksy antivirus. you can turn on that it will tell you about every software every time it access them and it looks exactly like this, its maybe a little hard to see but on the right side near the edge is an arrow which will give you a drop down menu on what actions you want to take, like for example denying a software the ability to access the webcam.
thats how one time i found out that discord screwed up an update (this is already multiple version ago and has been fixed propperly) where it would just non stop keep accessing the webcam for no reason at all even when it wasnt actually using it for anything.

Hey, I'm the guy who posted the "That's not a light..." at 22:30. Those are servo control drives for an industrial deli slicer. The one that is glowing is supposed to control a small conveyor belt that moves up and down to stack the meat as it is sliced before sending it farther down the line to be packaged.
15:00 - Yep. My first flat-panel PC monitor was some 5:4 ratio CFL-backlit thing my dad got secondhand for me. After a while, the backlight had trouble properly striking and sustaining an arc; it took me quite a while to realize that the image panel was still working fine. I did a web search for the problem and found a _single_ post by someone with the _exact same model_ of monitor, and a guide for how to fix it: replace a series of four identical capacitors on one of the circuit boards inside. After the repair, that monitor lasted several more years.

17:30 I think this happens because it's trying to move the file to the recycle bin, but there's already a file there with the same name. Emptying the recycle bin first should fix it, or just Shift+Del to delete it immediately instead of recycling.
Or the temp folder has too many files in it (max. 65535)
I looked into how the modern Recycle Bin works and it renames each file to a random name so you can have multiple files with the same original name. Downside is there are only 7 random characters so if you delete a gazillion files there won't be any more free names. There should be 78 billion slots if each character can be A-Z and 0-9. In reality the random generator probably just came up with the same name twice so there was a conflict early. Somebody made a post on Stack Exchange where they got the same error when deleting a million files.
11:07 is Kaspersky Plus, an anti virus/security program. It's actually really good at letting you know what's going on with your system. But also really annoying sometimes.

On the subject of failing to remove the plastic protector from CPU coolers - I work for a fairly large manufacturer. My technicians often forget to remove that. Sometimes the system manages to make it to the customer like that, even with stress testing prior. Modern CPUs just don't care all that much. They'll run slower, but they'll run. My customers are mostly medical device OEMs, so they don't really notice most of the time. Every so often a machine will come back in for remanufacturing or some kind of reworks (as a large order) and we'll find the offending plastic, because of some other problem!
I will usually rip my technicians apart for that. It's too easy to JUST DO THE DAMN THING.

Kolibri also happens to be the name of one of the few Sega 32X games worth checking out, mostly because of how odd the premise of playing a shmup where you control a superpowered hummingbird shooting at insects is, it has similar vibes to ECCO the Dolphin. It's also really pretty to look at, games purposefully made for the 32X tended to have some of the most vibrant pixel art at the time because they wanted to show up just how much their weird tech mushroom improved the color capabilities of the base Genesis/Mega Drive, it's why Knuckles' Chaotix can look so color saturated at times.

And it's not "that unusual" to have one overheating, some are too weak but the bigger one is more expensive, they are packed like sardines in a can... read the F manual !

If it's something that red-hot maybe it is a high-power resistor to handle dynamic braking. For super high power resistors I believe they sometimes use nichrome wire cooled by a fan.

@@Dr.K.Wette_BE A resistor is the most sensible thing to me. It's clearly something big and other than resistors, heatsinks, and sometimes capacitors what components are that large? For a heatsink to get that hot the components on it would need to be even hotter. A semiconductor would become unsoldered before that could happen and if not the package would probably physically explode first.
At this point I'm starting to get genuinely worried about Lexi's mental state and blood pressure. About as much as I regularly worry about Robin's.

About the socket damage at 0:09. There are some thermal pastes that get so sticky over time due to heat that the CPU literally sticks to the heatsink, so, when you go to pull the heatsink off the board, you pull the CPU along with it, closed ILM and all. I've repaired bent pins that have been damaged this way, I've replaced sockets that suffered the same fate, and, this is exactly why we recommend twisting the heatsink before you lift it off the board after unscrewing it.

15:00 I found out that the control boards of most old monitors had the ccfl inverter running off of 12v DC and an enable pin that was pulled high when the monitor got the wake up signal so when a monitor backlight died I just got some slim led strip the one with the continuous phosphor line, a pwm led driver wit external potentiometer and an N channel mosfet and made a driver circuit to run the led strips that I installed in place of the old ccfl tubes in the display with an external potentiometer to control the brightness of the strips and the mosfet to turn the backlight on at the same time as the monitor also I removed or desoldered the components of the inverter circuit and with the new LEDs, the monitors ran just as well, if not better than with the old ccfl tubes and were even more power efficient. I did this to about 14 monitors and all of them still work very well to this day, even did it with a TV and that still works
Most tech stuff like this goes over my head(I'm only good at fixing certain computer problems or figuring out why an emulator won't work, stuff like that) but holy shit that last one, I feel so bad for the guy that has to fix that..

This is just a file corruption issue, I've had to deal with a 50 gig folder just disappearing from a drive yet the space was still being taken, took about an hour and many attempts to delete the parent folder through explorer and the CMD, and when all else failed, it fixed itself with a simple disk error check... The notification at 11:07 looks like the one made by Kaspersky Antivirus the arrow on the side lets you hide the notification, block application access to the webcam, webcam protection settings, PID number, and application rules (what rights the application has, past security checks with the program, where the program is stored on what drive and lot of other info.)
That is correct, the interface is the same.
Lexi, I think I was the one who defended the electricians doing network wiring, saying I’d sent it to me dad and he said it should be fine.
My only defense is that my dad, while he does have an electrical engineering degree, is an engineer. Which explains the “it’ll work but it’s not to spec”. I’m sorry.
And then it takes us technicians to get it what crazy things engineers think up to work correctly, or tell them that's not how things work...
I found out recently there are heat shrink label makers, so you can have a label be properly part of the cable. Hope this helps someone from cable mess

My laptop was on at the time when I knocked the whole glass over the keyboard, it didn't shut down right away when I held in the powerbutton, but after a bit it shut down and I could open it up while crying my eyes out to get the battery out. Apparently the battery was a spicy pillow, so I threw that out, cleaned all the components, let it bake in the oven to dry. When everything was dry I put it back together, and it worked!! It is a lot slower than before, but it works, so I'm happy!

My Toshiba X505-Q896 went thru a 40-45 mph head-on car crash (Not my fault!) and the technician said that when he took it apart almost every single screw's threads were stripped out, on the harddrive and some other parts and covers, obviously from the forces of the accident.
