Building Knife Sharpening Jig

- In this DIY episode I'm making knife sharpening jig which fits Taidea sharpening whetstones. It's made out of scarp material and I'm using only simple tools to build it. I'll show the sharpening procedure in next episode.

Michal Kadlec Hi Mike. I’ve been asked to build some of these but I Farm for a living and stay busy. Granted I have time now because it’s winter here in Montana. But I really don’t want to lol lol. If you tell how much you will sell one for I think I have about 7 orders I can pass on to you!!
Hi Garland, I sell for USD 144, anyway we are talking about commercial version czcams.com/video/JXuEHbATUg8/video.html
There is a lot of guys making their jigs and a lot of customers without the necessary equipement, time or something more to do it by themselves and buy it from me. You can find some other information on facebook page facebook.com/JO-knife-sharpening-jig-142065553172262/
By far the most worthy knife sharpener . So artistic .Keep doing such nice things.
This is totally awesome man thanks for posting this video your boss. I been looking at these type of videos because i been wanting to make one cuz the affordable ones are disposable. Good for just awhile then shopping for parts. This is doable for me. Not over complicated or a work of art. Just a real tool. Good job bro. Ill be making mine this weekend.
Hi Michael. That's a really nice job. Thanks for posting.
I also really enjoy the armchair experts that come out of the woodwork and comment on CZcams videos.
We're not all armchair experts. I, for one, know next to nothing about armchairs.
@@Z3DZ1LL4 yes I have no arms on my chairs. I have to go find my sister if I want to arm wrestle ...
Yep. I see me making this or something very much like it in the near future. Awesome job!
Really smart jig, thanks for sharing!
Scrap woo
Your way to sharpen knives allows you to make a beautiful blade. Thank you for your video.
Sehr gute und formschöne Idee und Ausführung! Werde ich nachbauen, DANKE.
Your ingenuity is undeniable. That’s one of the coolest home builds I’ve seen. That being said, I’d like to see more instruction and detail on how to actually build the sharpener. And much, much less Benny Hill. Well done though, very innovative.
It's videos like this that make CZcams so great..........I'm inspired Thank you
+Craig Marston you are welcome, thank youfor nice comment.
Michal Kadlec One question Máster : This is coffe or a mistery potion ? jjjjsss .
That's what I was gonna say. This way of sharpening knifes was exactly what i was looking for. I was struggling with the problem of setting and keeping a constant and especially a measurable angle, as well as keeping the angle over the curve of the cutting edge. This does it all. I have a very messed up expensive Nakiri knife which was damaged by improper use (not me) and reground by what I would call a "knife butcher" who messed it up completely. I was going to get the knife supplier to do this job, but now I have seen this I think I can tackle the job myself (and probably have the jig pay for itself with this Nakiri only!).
Hello Michal,
Yesterday I received the jig. It's a good job !!!
I tried it and the result is...very sharp with my Japanese stones !!!!
I like your jig !!!
Thanks you.
Fabien Chaudier you are welcome my Friend.
Michal Kadlec how can i get one of these?
peter2775 hi Peter, sorry I overlooked your comment, if you wish to buy sharpening jig than send me an email please, kadlk@seznam.cz. I need to know where are you from.
How much do you charge? I am in the US ( Utah).
Very nicely made!
Awesome video and great looking jig. If your drill press is capable, slow the rpms of your larger diameter bits and c'sinks. You'll get less chatter.
this was so helpful! I've been considering buying one for a while but it looks like I can make a better one for less. Thanks!
one of the best solutions i've seen to the prices of some of the pro products
+lifesabuzz Thanks a lot!
lifesabuzz, wie recht du hast mein Freund, wie recht du hast !
If you build it, I will buy it....wonderful vid.
THANKS
What a great job. I look forward to building one just like it. Thanks.
That's a Awesome Knife sharpener, i like it you done very good awesome video,
I liked this very much .. You are an artist.
Good Grief! Someone who actually has SHARP DRILLS in a CZcams Video? I'm ASTONISHED! Nice work Michal!
+Jim Harvey thank you Jim.
Awesome, just awesome!
I just bought a Lanskey 3-stone sharpening system. I'll get it tomorrow post office closed today.
great job thanks for sharing
Nicely done, but with this system, you cannot select an appropriate angle depending on the knife. But with a slight modification, your machine could do it. Aniway, thanks for sharing, and nice work !
Hi. The post with the three nuts and the bracket and pivot point is adjustable. The only thing this lacks, say compared to the commercial systems, like the KME is a marked scale for angles but they are meaningless as the angle is dependant on the width of the blade and how close to the pivot post you mount it in the clamp.
Good luck with yours. I watched the review of the KME by, I think it was a guy called Nick Shabazz. He loved it but went through the price of it and the extra you have to buy...$325-350.
Unless I was setting up a knife sharpening business...way out of my league.
IF....& THATS A Big IF I had 25% of your talent..... PLUS ALL OF YOUR Machinery .I might try What You did in this Video. I will just buy one from Amazon. GREAT VIDEO... THANK YOU For Sharing..
Perfeito muito bom, parabéns!!!
Like the stone idea better than the sand paper.😁👍
amazing simple work, mr Kadlec, i will make one for me, thanks
Michal, great video thanks for sharing, I will most definitely be building this jig in the future.
Najlepszy ze wszystkich pomysłów.
Fantastic!
Thank you for sharing
I like this design better than the one from other guy with the knife sit raised up attached to magnets...
best job ever
+Hristo Atanasov thank you so much.
Hristo Atanasov MN
This is the best,....No doubt
passion in everything you do
I like it very much!
Thanks you for the idea
Looks simpler to construct than others.
Ok, I just ordered all these machines, I can start with this project now. Thank you.
You need to have ski if you want to ski. This is the samé my Friend. No tool - no fun.
Great job...
VERY NICE SHARPENER I`LL MAKE ONE THANKS
A homemade Lansky, great sharpener man😉👌
superb video
very nice work :D
Very good!
nice vid the best iv seen of this type cool
very nice build
Nice video!
But please.. dont have your gloves on while using your drill press.
Not now, not tomorrow.. or maybe not ever, but all of a sudden, you move your hand a little carelessly and the drill bit catches the fabric of your glove, and the fun is over.
No, the "fun" begins!
+Ricopolico haha
Hope the belt slips

thats soo nice!, im gooing to build me one of those one day :)
, you remind me of the

Nice job.
As an after thought , it struck me that the whetstone guide can be given a height adjustment of about 2 inches to compensate for the various cutting angles in scissors, chisels and knifes. Just a suggestion.
Clearly the best jig in youtube! Congrats!
Moc hezké videjko dobrá práce šikula')) at se Vám daří pane jinak nechápu ty dislike .ach jo ((
D+ seu trabalho.
Acutually i liked the handle of the finished product of usability living room
Very good design and ingenious. Where do you store it, when not in use?
Hey Michal, really nice idea and built! I enjoyed the video a lot. Try black tea with milk and sugar next time;)
+Dewabarasunderan thank you so much, will try that tee anyway there will be a cup of coffe in each of my video.
If simplicity is the essence of genius you fell a little short. unneccesarily complex but I'm sure it works great
Post the build of your tool so that we can see an alternative method of construction please.
very Nice Work and idea.........have a Nice day form Germany, Thums up
+Michael O. Thank you Michael.
you said simple tools...but wow i know a lot of guys wishing they had a bandsaw, drillpress and a tap amd die set..oh an lets not forget the welding machine lol...awesome video, had fun watching it, really nice end result, keep it up
these are simple tools for me, no CNC, no plasma and you can do all the same with hand tools (except the welding machine). Thans for your comment.
In general, simple tools refer to hand/akku tools
A lot of that can be made in plastic, wood or not made at all, glue the metal into the wood or use a screw from the side to lock pieces in place, no need for any of the power tools if you adapt it , just a drill. Consider this the heavy duty version. I'd go for making the angle more adjustable for different edges too, we can all adapt this basic design easily enough. :)
I'm a machinist, and sitting through this I thought that this was very toned down. As Tim said, you could replace alot of the materials so all you'd need would pretty much only be screws to tie your parts together. At work, I would use a lathe and mill to make alot of these parts.
As DIY folks we build with what's on hand.
I don't care if we build with mud or build with rocks tools
At end of the trip we packed our parachute.
Świetne
Your. Workshop products safely works smoothly worthy nurishment.. your shops instruments used suitability to me also.. should I do like to have a Diy projects craftsman style instruments used for various projects work craftsman i would be sensational happy.. happy new year wishes 2023 ...
Nice work
Fantastic!
+RFAM05 thank you so much.
You should put plans together for this jig, I would really love to have a set of plans so I could build my own sharpening jig like this one.
Ok, will make some drawings, working on giant sand stone sharpening machine just now, so stay in touch Í'll do it later. Thanks for comment.
Is this for sale my friend? :)
Yes, the comercial version just available from me.
How much money?
Michal Kadlec
I'm interested too thanks 😊
Hermoso trabajo...
Nice jig, my question is that is this wide jig works on knife with some curved edges rather than the straight edge which you shown in the video
+AMbros Custom yes of course, it works for curved edges as well.
Shaft collars needs to be attached to the rod to limit the travel of the honing stone. They can be bought in just about any hardware store and cost only a little over a dollar a piece, available in most hardware stores. Sizes are from a 1/4 inch and up.
Jig like that is worth some cash. The desing is simple enough, but most people lack the tools, so they'll pay for one. Check prices on Amazon.
I just want to have one like that.
nice sharing sir
Super !!!
Dobra prace.
the sounds and speed remind me of the sims game
i create a knife sharpener, i carve the size of the sharpening stone to a 2x4 & place 3 screws at the bottom of the wood to the inside diameter of the 5 gallon bucket so it wont slide out of place,. place water inside the bucket & dip the knife on the water & start sharpening, i also create a guide for the knife to stay on the same angle at all times,. it comes out great,..
You have convinced me, I will spend 500$ to buy all the tools you have, drill table with drill, metal cutter, etc, to build my own knife sharpener.
If you don't have them already, MacGyver, why are you even watching? 😎
@@ahayseed654 Are you right, i waste my time for nothing
@@ahayseed654 Are you right, i waste my time for nothing, XD XD XD
great idea
muy buen trabajo amigo, felicitaciones
I do appreciate your design without any hesitation however I do not possess the tools to construct it. Many thanks
Zdravím, je množné zaslat rozměry případně nákres výrobku? Jinak moc pěkná práce.
Michal Congrats great Video!. I don't have the tools nor the skill. Will you built one for me, I am willing to pay for it if is a reasonable cost.
