Grayson is a straight up dirty player, there are examples of this in the NBA already. Other dirty players figured out ways to hide it, this dude doesn't even do that.

He was great behind the arc this season except when he got injured. And so far he's been great in the locker room, all the guys, Jaren, Ja, like him.
Clobbersaurus grizzlies got a decent young core together, I think Winslow still has time to develop into a good backup Point forward as well

In JJ and Laettners time the only chance you had to vent your hatred was at the game so you had dark, visceral, deep seeded anger coming out their mouths. Social media definitely helped temper it a bit.

It's JJ. Duke was at the very height of its national relevance and infamy during JJ's run. Nine straight Sweet 16s. Five conference titles in four years. And JJ was the lightening rod for all the ire, especially the last two years.

7:25 100% correct JJ. Not sure if its purely media driven but UNC fans in the middle of NC know before conference play starts who the hated Dukie is. As Duke fans we knew when Paulis and Grayson were put into the starting line up they would play that role. Honestly after JJ we thought they, or their parents/guardians, knew all of this before ever signing with Duke.
Indeed. I live in Greensboro and have lived thru the rivalry. JJ was much more hated. There was a certain passion that came with the hate JJ got.

There’s a difference between hating a TEAM and therefore rooting against the best player (JJ Reddick) versus actually hating someone as an individual because they were a dirty player (Grayson Allen).
JJ was memorable because his hate was because he was unstoppable. Grayson was a killer too, but I don’t think his hate matched JJ’s because this is when college basketball was still really strong & the fans were way more invested.

I think the better question is who was more beloved by Duke fans and the answer is JJ hands down which also points to him being more hated. The flicking the wrist all the way down the court after made 3’s would really get under the opponents fans skins also. Grayson is an super under rated baller though. One of the best open shooters in the league. That’s why he is thriving in Milwaukee this season.
