    This is not an instructional video. I didn't have a chance to record everything, so there are some parts missing, but it shows the basic ideas on how it's built. Thanks, enjoy

    I inherited a dresser, tall chest and pair of nightstands in this style. Mine is made of oak and is stained a cherry color and has a cabinet type kick plate(weird, I know). It’s taken a beating over the last 40-50 years and needs a new finish. Was scared to go a dark espresso but your color combo looks really nice. I’m inspired. Thank you.

    Burned drawer front are a nice touch, really beautiful contrast with the clean look of the maple.
    If your camera has an hdr mode, i'd suggest using that to shoot your timelapse sequences, as it will eliminate the sudden jumps in brightness when a darker object enters the frame. (like you working in front of the camera)

    I like the idea. But I think the contrast between VERY smoothly finished top and sides with the burnt fronts is too much. I think it'd be MUCH better if you finished the front to the same level and then stained them black. As it is it looks like it was dragged in by a corrupt firefighter.

  • @rvinopal20

    What was your joinery method for the middle divider where the inside drawers slides are mounted?

    • @TGWoodworking
      @TGWoodworking  Před 8 lety

      Good question. The divider was inserted and glued into a dado groove in the top. Biscuited in the front and back thicker portions. A dovetailed groove would be more ideal. Or, I would like to use a festool domino in the future, but don't own one yet.

  • @Kruzshtein
    @Kruzshtein Před 8 lety

    What drawer slides did you use? And is it possible to burn a drawer`s front part on a home gas stove to achieve result as you have? or I should use only a gas burner?
    P.S. I really like your drawer! And especcially its design!

    • @TGWoodworking

    • @TGWoodworking
      @TGWoodworking  Před 6 lety +1

      +felipe pinheiro Thanks for following! The finish was a sprayed on nitrocellulose lacquer, which is a standard cabinetry finish. Inside the drawer boxes, we tried a water based finish. It worked ok, but took at least 3x more coats. On the drawer faces, we did the same nitro lacquer on top of the burnt finish. The drawer faces have held up surprisingly well so far.

    im sure the glueing teqnicue u used works. but wouldnt it be easier to just use clamps? or are there any benifitial aspects?

    • @TGWoodworking
      @TGWoodworking  Před 7 lety

      Hi Micke , In this situation I used 3/8" thick basswood for the back of the dresser, because of the light weight. It would easily be damaged by clamps, and warp while being clamped. This method keeps the boards as flat as possible while being clamped. I learned this method for glueing up guitar tops, which are only about 1/8" thick. Trying to clamp wood that thin would be extremely frustrating. After the success with the basswood, I went ahead with clamping the maple drawer bottoms the same way, because those were also thin, and this way probably even saved me time. I'm planning to make a video on this jig soon. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!

  • @CP-fz4sr
    @CP-fz4sr Před 7 lety

    Question. I'm doing something similar but for a closet. 8ft tall cabinet. I'm cutting up the edges at 45 degrees and then make my bisquit holes. I add my glue along the edge then with my finger I swirl the glue thruout the edge. When I put the 2 pieces together, the bisquits seem to keep me from making a good tight corner connection. Is there a trick to it? I saw you did the corner the same way I did with bisquits, but mine cannot come out very tight, there is a gap in between the pieces. Am I putting too much glue in the bisquits holes or what the secret? Thanks.

    • @TGWoodworking
      @TGWoodworking  Před 7 lety

      Do you have a biscuit shrinker tool? Just kidding :) Sounds like you're using the wrong size biscuits, or didn't cut the biscuit hole deep enough. There should definitely be some wiggle room in there. I usually use #20 biscuits, and have my biscuit jointer set at 20.

    • @CP-fz4sr
      @CP-fz4sr Před 7 lety

      TG Woodworking that's what I have and it's set to #20. Here is what I do. I make the bisquits cuts. I test the work by putting bisquits in every cut and then assemble the 2 pieces together. Works perfect. THEN here is where it goes bad. I put the glue on the edge of the wood, put some inside the bisquits cuts use a brush to swirl the glue around then I put the biqsuits in the cuts but this time they are a bit harder to push in, so I use a rubber hammer to lightly push them in. Then when I join the 2 pieces, Bam, it gets so hard to make then tight as if it's 1 piece, no matter how much I clamp them. Maybe too much glue? I don't know. What u think I'm doing wrong? I'm making the bisquits cuts proper depth and length because before I put the glue, they go in perfect. New blade maybe you think or do bisquits go bad after a while? Thanks for your help

    • @TGWoodworking
      @TGWoodworking  Před 7 lety

      Man, sorry to hear about the struggle. I think I've encountered the same problem in the past, but can't remember how I fixed it. Biscuits don't go bad, but they will swell and expand, due to the moisture in the glue. I guess I would try some of the smaller #10 biscuits. As long as you have it all glued and clamped, it shouldn't be a problem using smaller biscuits (in the #20 cut). But it is confusing that it fits perfectly until you put glue on it. Best of luck to you, I hope it works out!
