Anime has a Japanese school set but try to make it as western as possible with out taking to much from Japanese culture… the reality about Japanese high schools is that there really depressing and most days are spent studying unless your a slacker you rarely get hang out with friends outside of school. is so bad that suicide rate among Japanese high school students is rising… however manga and anime offer an escape for those students to a fantasy of an unrealistic perfect high school life that resembles the lifestyle of popular western high school students.

These are the common rules which every schools has and I'm crying
Not in Italy. You can have relationships and dye your hair and have almost any hairstyle (the exception would be crazy hair like the stereotypical spike hair crazy punk fans have). These are irrelevant after all, you can study and have colored hair or a girlfriend at the same time, they are not related. Unless you meant every school in Japan.

I understand all of them except for the "no drinking during class". it's really important to stay hydrated so I don't see why drinking isn't allowed during class, it doesn't even bother the class like snacking does.
edit: just to clarify, I said "I understand the rules" not "I agree with the rules" meaning that I understand why the schools would make these kind of rules, I never said I agree with them
in our class, it was mainly because the students would drink water unnecessarily and ask to go to bathrooms during odd hours (just to bunk and goof around) which often distracts the class😂

The hair styles, eating during class, is also not allowed in the Philippines, if you would bring snacks, you must have enough for everyone, including the teacher, then you can eat snacks, lol! The hair style for boys, is kinda strict too, but this is mostly for elementary (obviously) and high school, to practice discipline.

Weird enough, my one school had a drinking rule. So basically you can't have any beverage, including water, unless you have a doctor's note. Most kids complained and you had to get a drink from a fountain ( pretty fancy ones tbh ) before or after class. No crazy hairstyles ( don't look like something from Dr. Suess. ) no displayed relationships ( no holding hands for example ) everything you said and more. ( as well as leggings. Girls were wearing see through leggins, basically thin tights, eventually making it a problem with some of the older kids. So it was pants, like actual school pants or nothing. ) I loved the rules, I saw more a** cracks than racial slurs a day at one point. ( but I did complain about the bathroom rule. You could only use the bathroom 6 times a week, then you couldn't until the next week. )

As someone who has worked in many public schools in Japan, I can say that drinking is allowed during class in summer, at least in some schools. Dying hair is sometimes allowed, or at least tolerated, in some schools.
yaaay, I hope they change that for all the schools! Heard they had one student die of dehydration and that's why they were like "ok... I guess they should drink... a little..." XD. And man they have to relax with the hair...

They would of also collapsed awhile before dying giving enough time for them to go to the hospital and be treated.

1 & 2 are common in most countries. In my country we are allowed to have a bottle of water on our desk, and during entrance exams we are allowed to have a small chocolate or an energy bar or a banana.

I live in New Zealand and we’re not allowed any food or drink during class except water. We can eat during class if we get permission from the teacher and we have a good reason for not eating during break (if you had a club meeting or something like that).
In India, atleast in schools ive been to over many states: You can drink from your bottle after asking for permission unless ur in 11 or 12 grade, then ur considered a little more sensible.
No eating anything at all, except medicines after showing ur prescriptions. Class or exam or whatever. Die of starvation instead.
And i said "drink from your bottle" instead of "water". As unless its smells or someone sees it, nobody would care (whatever country it is) as to what u are drinking. In rules only water is allowed ofc. Ive brought cold-drinks (u guys call it coke i think?) many times nevertheless.

These rules are pretty common, except the the first an last one, we're allowed to drink during class and have relationship, but the teachers tend to tease us about having relationships and would say "go to work then be in a relationship"
