good deal! I read somewhere that the inside of these tanks is often coated with something that may gum up the carburetor - so it needs to be flushed.
Outstanding deal. I was very happy. Yes with any new tank it’s always a good idea to rinse them out.

Clean drip rails , use brushable sem sealer and it will sand smooth and I hard mask top edge .
I didn’t know they made a brushable seamer to be quite honest with you. I would definitely be interested in doing that.

Cheap foam earplugs work great for bolt holes.
Self leveling seam sealer works for the drip Rails.
@@timhall2355 I never thought about the earplugs, I have a ton of those. That is a really excellent idea! I’m gonna have to look for the self leveling seam similar a punch it into Google. I have never heard of that before. I really appreciate the tip!
Wow that seems much easier than trying to clean one out… I called my local radiator shop and they asked 150.00 to clean mine up … forget that …. Sure I’d like to keep it German but that’s a big difference…
@@MikeMoose67 yes, it’s not cheap any longer to get that done. You’re better off. Just buying a new one if it’s really bad.

Just redid my 68 original tank. Yours and the new don’t have the one year metal vent pipe near the spare. The small one must be replacement for the vent that is on the tee at the filler and routes up and around the dash the out to atmosphere at the front of the tank. It will be a much cleaner install. Thanks for the vid. Love your channel.

I didn’t know Holley made a EFI system for VW Beetle that’s very interesting
I honestly didn’t find out till recently.
They don't make one specifically for a vw, it's designed to be a bolt on for a ford inline 6. It's designed as a autolite 1100 efi replacement but the flange is very close to the vw dual port carb flange

I'll have to look into getting a tank for Clyde. I've got 2, but no one cleans them out around here anymore.
@@adamgray2720 if they’re not real bad, check out one of my videos. You could probably just clean it out yourself depending on how bad it is.
Man it sucks that these are discontinued. I went with a fuel cell as the old tanks are always an issue. Wish I’d known about these, maybe they will bring them back but probs not.
@@WestGeorgiaAirCooled yes, I agree, they were still available while I was actually making this video and put it up. At the snap of a finger they are gone. I have half of mine to give them a call, and talk with them they could probably sell a ton of these.
HEY SLADES HOW ARE YOU DOING? HOPE ALLS WELL.
My Super Beetle came with a new tank from a previous owner. The trouble is they butchered all the evaporative emissions lines. I'd like to actually have that working, the canister is still present, but I can't find any routing diagrams. Also the EGR valve is present, and the vacuum line was connected to the carburetor, but the EGR valve was not connected, so it will as just a big vacuum leak when the valve opened. I have the signal line plugged, but I want to find the EGR parts, as I'm trying to restore the car to EXACTLY as it left the factory in 1974.

@@michaelyoung1901 that is actually called colonial red by Rustoleum. Although I have to sand it because I’m doing a different color now lol I like that color too.

From what I understand they’re no longer going to get more in sadly.

@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle I know quite a few people started ordering them right prior to me. They still make the sniper system them that I’m aware of so it’s a wonder they still don’t sell the gas tanks. That’s kind of strange. But I see exactly what you’re talking about my friend.
