you can get patience if what you do is something you really love.... like me, i can like make something for a whole month if i am very interested in it and if there is no deadline😅😅
thing is, you can see its not CGI, you just don't get the same level of detail with CGI. mostly because no one using CGI puts in the time needed, copy paste, can make a lot of something, but not alot of difference. and imperfections in movement, can sometimes make things seem more real than 100% perfection, i think.
CGI takes around the same amount of time, sometimes a little bit longer. And it’s just easier to make it irl. Because you don’t animate, after you make the body, it’s done.
I'm actually an 2D hand-drawn animation student and I took a stop motion course and it was amazing. I learned how to make a puppet from scratch, the armature was simpler though, made of wires. And animating a puppet is soo different from hand-drawn, actually I enjoyed it more and it went faster than I expected. Part of the course was a workshop with Brad Schiff from Laika which was probably the best experience. He's really inspiring and he brought us the Kubo puppet and we got to play with it!
Computer graphics is impressive and I have a lot of respect for it (especially because I’ve tried it), but puppetry...holy crap. Not only is it expensive but it’s incredibly difficult and complicated too...even more so than cgi.
A pro for stop motion is that lighting is very easy as you don’t have to do machine calculator but a con is that animating something requires patience and it’s harder to understand than normal animation
This is why I used to rewatch the behind the scenes of Coraline and Corpse Bride over and over again as a kid. I was fascinated by all of the intricate, hand made details of all of the puppets. I wanted to act, write and direct but I wanted to make the puppets too. I just wouldn't let myself admit it until recently.
Being an Animator and VFX artist... I can feel her joy and happiness expressed in this video. Its so true that for we artist's money and everything comes second while art comes one first place.
"most artists are they're sort of the quiet, determined types that go into their own little creative bubbles and they just do their thing" _i feel called out_
i love the stop motion animation films, there's just an extra indescribable quality to them that makes them special. these people make 'dolls' that would actually be worth outrageous designer prices. every piece has to have so much detail in it, be functional and replaceable - it's just so cool to me. especially as someone who occasionally makes polymer clay characters... i can't do feet so i just hide them in shoes xD
It is beautiful what they do here, I am Hispanic and what they publish inspires me to learn everything I can about the art of Stop Motion, thank you very much for being inspirational and sharing this material with all of us.
I can't beleive how good your stop motion is. Everything looks so fluid and dynamic and realistic and cartoony and theres sooooo much detail per frame!?!?!?
I went from hating stop motion to loving it the first time I watched Coraline. I was always freaked out by stop motion because it has a bit of an uncanny valley feel to it, now I love that about it.
I'm an adult now and still wish I was able to be on projects like this. But when I was younger an making lego stop motions and cel stop motions, I used to go to theaters and watch movies like Paranorman, Coraline, all the Tim Burtons, ect. It all really inspired me to keep doing it and making movies as a kid and made me way more creative. It was definitely one of my dreams as a kid to do stuff like this. But I just appreciate the time I had with it, and I appreciate you guys for that. Stop motion animation used to be a HUGE part of my life and was a huge part of my younger creativity.
I cannot thank you enough for making the doll CORALINE! I have see the crews movie at least 10 times and I'm so excited for the future movies you hold!!!!
Oh. These guys made Coraline. You know, I asked Neil himself if Whybe was ever planned to be in the book and he said that he's only there so you don't just hear Coraline's thoughts all the time.
I've ALWAYS loved stop-motion film making! I did what was considered very 'primitive' stop-action with the old Planet of the Apes Mego figures ... okay 'dolls' - LOL!!! They weren't really bad, but they were not like the advanced puppets seen here and elsewhere. Even used the movable Aurora "Prehistoric Scenes" models for some simple stop-action filming!
What an honor getting to be with you and celebrate tina and joe the other weekend, George! I am excited to tell you how impactful your art has been on my life. ❤🥰
My fav movie is coraline and I thought it was computer graphics and those stuff but then when I watched this video and other videos I was *SHOOK* like... *respect those people who did these stuff👌🏼💞💯💯*
inspiring Georgina and guys... I'm picking up on more clues or just intel on how you approach production.. still amazes me the super small scale of the puppet designs... and the super large scale of the sets.. I'm gob smacked.. fair does, you got alot of responsibility and pressure.. so many skills and problem solving abilities, as you say.. respect to you.. I want to learn as much as I can...
I hope one day I can reach this level of greatness. Coraline is one of the movies that inspired me to be an animator, and to see one of the faces behind it is just amazing.
My wish is that people whould appreciate stop motion animation more than they do CGI Animation , ( I can speak out of experience ,because I am studying Animation ,more CG and believe me it is a lot of work too and requires a certain motivation , but your computer does most of the end results ) but this is a real art and skill and takes a lot of time ( I whould love to work on a stop motion film one day - that'sthe dream ) .
I just want to be happy as this lady is while talking about my profession.💜 And i would seriously want to grasp some of the puppet making skills .🔥 And as a leader, the words "I have to make sure that the teams communicate" relate so much. Sometimes you don't do anything specific but as a team leader you ensure that your teammates are communicating while doing their jobs.☺️
I wish, just one tiny bitty day, with my hands on the work and see how it all comes to life, most be a dream come true seeing your imagination gaining life.
Paranorman was`nt CGI?!😮God I loved the animation so much! The Movement and Puppets and background and everything looked soo Perfect i never had expected that! Gosh I love such Puppet movies soo soo much!😍🥰

Most people don't have the drive to put that happiness in their life. Truly sad.
I hope that I can become that happy!
Artists have that privilege :)

I don't have a lot of patience, but I can still work months on a stop-motion film for my channel, because its fun and I love it.
but something that can be learned
OMG!!! I was thinking that those Puppets are just CGI. Thumbs Up for your work and dedication.
The Teacher same!

sensational. It's better than computer graphics
Jose Vicente Sousa but it's expensive as well

For some things.
I swear if I can get the touch of any Coraline puppets, I will dieeeeeeeeeee of happiness

I respect these people so much for all the hard work they put into making these movies.
So beautiful and inspiring !! ❤️ thank you to all those silent hands for every movement and for planning with precision and love
Stop motion was terrifying back in the olden days. Rudolf terrified me because they moved so twitchy and quick like they were possessed.
Truly amazing! Magical, fantastic, mind-blowing. the perfect marriage of art and technology.
i don't know why but i like it when she says puppet
So much love for the this type of art. Puppetry, sculpting, stop-motion, etc. ❤❤
Simply amazing. Such skilled artists . Thanks
SO cool and so nice to see someone who is so "at home" within herself at her job! How fortunate she really is!
Her being so happy about her job makes me even more exited to want to work on stop motions! I really want to work at Laika when I grow up so badly!😩
Coraline was on my TV while I was watching this and I'm like wow that's really impressive
I never realised that it takes this much effort to make people smile. Phew!!! Hats off.
I love all of the stop motion animations because I know how long it takes. We should all appreciate all of these amazing movies!

I can't imagine the horror you want through watching Shaun the sheep
@@isleling5191 I never saw much of Shaun the Sheep. The worst one for me was Corpse Bride. It was the one that made me hate stop motion as a kid
CORALINE! my fave film of all time! ❤
