  • The National Museum of Anthropology (Museo Nacional de Antropología) is absolutely enormous. Located in Mexico City's Chapultepec Park, it's the largest and most visited museum in all of Mexico. The museum has an extensive collection of artifacts from Mexico's pre-Columbian history that are of special archaeological and anthropological significance. Covering about 80,000 square metres, the architecture is stunning and has a huge umbrella-like structure supported by just a single beam. Some of the highlights of the museum are giant stone heads from the Olmec civilization as well as treasures from the Mayan civilization. Two of the most popular attractions are the Aztec Stone Of The Sun and a reconstruction of the tomb of Pacal The Great, a Mayan ruler who was deified (603 CE - 683 CE). You could easily spend days in this massive museum, but it's worth seeing even if you only have a couple of hours.
For more information, visit the museum's website: www.mna.inah.gob.mx/

Yes, I have Eileen. Went there on my first trip to Mexico City and it is an awesome place. The museum's centerpiece is so impressive and to see it in person really provides the scale necessary to appreciate even more! I love your videos and if you ever get the chance to do a video on the Trotsky museum, I would appreciate it as it is one place that I have missed on my trips to Mexico City.

Thank you! You're so right about the scale. When I first walked in and saw the 'umbrella' I was left a bit breathless. It really anchors the space in a beautiful way. It's funny you mention the Trotsky museum because it's actually included in a video coming very soon!

Descendants of the people who created Mexico's ancient civilizations are alive today, maintaining much traditional Native-American culture in various regions of the country. But, many foreign visitors to the country ignore those contemporary Native-Americans, focusing their attention exclusively on architecture and artifacts from the past.
I like your video, Eileen. But, like many other visitors to Mexico's "National Museum of Anthropology" you apparently never made it upstairs to where about half of the Museum's displays are located. Those 2nd floor areas address Mexico's indigenous cultures as they continue to thrive today. Some of the upstairs exhibits contain interesting photos and text (usually in Spanish) along with fascinating video clips.

Really? My family in Mexico r scared to come to USA! They say ppl here kill kids in school for sport, and ppl in church and malls, everywhere! They say, and it's Tru, Mexico will at least, give you a map of the red zones, stay in green zones, ull be fine, it's like any other place, if you look for trouble, ull find it. In USA, it's just to random for them.
