You should check out gates of Babylon by rainbow with Ronnie James Dio not the from the album but the live version
@@kertekroth8568 Thank you for your suggestion! 😊🤘
@@maggiereneemusic может что-то из фолк музыки? Dakhabrakha или Wardruna например?
Thank you for your reaction once again. Always a pleasure. For more arabian or eastern vibes, try Gates of Babylon from Rainbow. Or more heavier stuff, Long Live Rock'n Roll, Kill the King by Rainbow. Then from Dio's Black Sabbath era you should listen to Sign of the Southern Cross, monster of a song. By the way, did you notice how the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra came in towards the end of the song? The build-up of the end of this song is magnificient!
How about 'Peacemaker' by Jesca Hoop, from her album 'The House That Jack Built'. I guarantee you've never heard anything quite like it. I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised.
This might be my all-time favourite song. RIP Dio, the GOAT
Mine too.
Also Rip Cozy Powell
Mine too. Love every note of every instrument.
The best song in Rock history.
DIO is absolutely the goat. From my perspective so is Blackmore
My favorite Rainbow song. This is the perfect song to showcase Dio's vocals.
"Live in Fukuoka"....you tube.
One of the greatest drums intros, played by one of the greatest Rock drummers, Mr. Cozy Powell.
Did it in one take.
How about Bill Ward in "Fairies wear boots" (Black Sabbath)?
@@vladimirlyagushin6427 - I said "one of the greatest", obviously there are more.
@@module79l28, sure
Dio and Richie Blackmoore is an godlike combo!!!
Throw Cozy into the conversation as well.
Same goes with Plant and Page combo
@@samulimoisio720 and John Bonham
Nobody stops Stargazer, right in between the solo :O
There will never be another Ronnie James Dio, they broke the mold with that man
1976 a teenager with my headphones & RAINBOW RISING ALBUM on the turntable and realising that I'm listening to real music and DIO'S voice brought me to tears.
Great memories.
Great reaction Thank you.
You tube "live in Fukuoka"....
Snap ! As a 15 year old , bought the vinyl record and I was blown away . Every time I here this song I'm blown away, having played drums also Cozy was a big influence on myself
Early heavy metal might as well have been called hard blues.
Every time I hear ACDC I think to mysely this is Blues, just on like steroids :D or just with a different amplification and style of singing.
Dio, the perfect metal voice ever!! So powerfull so rich so good!
I always refer to Blackmore's solos as "snake charmer music"
And if memory serves me right rainbow had a song titled snake charmer I think I'm their 1st album 1st album self titled rainbow... Along with man on the silver mountain and 16th century greens leaves... Is 2 of my early favorites as a young teenager
I’m so glad you liked this, it is a masterpiece. I believe the scale that Ritchie Blackmore was using is called the harmonic minor scale, he played around with it a lot in Rainbow.
Yes, and a guy named Yngwie loved it!😁
The man, the myth, the God.
Dio.
If you like Dio being a little bluesy and just a little baritone please listen to his live performance of “Mistreated” with Rainbow. The sound comes from his toes 💜
Thank you so much!! Very kind of you. And I appreciate your suggestion! 😊
@@maggiereneemusic
Absolutely 😊😊.....also love 'man on the silver mountain ' from the live album.
Next Dio has got to be “Mistreated” from ‘77 live recording of Rainbow (I think it was in Munich but I could be wrong)…..just as Epic and amazing as this was….only it was purely LIVE. You’ll love it I swear🤘🏼
totally agree, and it is munich
I 2nd that. Dio + Blackmore at their prime
Yes! And compare to 1974 David Coverdale version with Deep Purple at California Jam...both versions are vocally astounding!
Agree, the Munich version or any version from that tour.
Agreed! It's a great rendition, but nobody does it like Coverdale. It would almost be like asking Coverdale to do a Dio song...totally unfair.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. Highly underrated because for whatever reason Rainbow isn’t well known anymore. Possibly because they went south after Dio left.
...and then there's James Gunn making "Since You've Been Gone" the theme song for the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie...
🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
That, my good friend, is the single greatest vocal performance in a rock track that there has ever been. The outro is Ronnie at his magnificent best. It always brings a lump to my throat. Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist is possibly the least recognised guitar virtuoso of his generation. He never plays the same solo twice, yet never delivers anything but an interesting and thoughtful solo…and yes, he had a very blues influenced style, which morphed into mediaeval, baroque as he became fascinated by old tunes. If you read the passage of the lyrics where the wizard ascends the creation he’s forced the singer to build, then, instead of flying, just falls, that is exactly how Ritchie deliberately structured the solo.
There's about 30 live recordings of this line up from live concerts in Europe and Japan on You tube......my current favourite is Stargazer from the "live in Fukuoka" concert....the longest Stargazer live that I know of.....
On top of having the greatest voice Dio was also the best of storytellers.
Hard rock (and rock in general) include blues as an essential element
Metal moved away from it, but exactly 70's heavy rock was blues based.
This is truly one of RJD's vocal epochs , he is just so ahead of the pack here, and the band were out to make a definitive statement with this release. Having come from Deep Purple, Blackmore had a great deal to live up to and this album left any naysayers behind.
If you want the Egyptian flavor, check out Rainbow's "Gates of Bablyon" from the album "Long Live Rock And Roll"
I'm still waiting for Hollywood to make an epic movie of "Stargazer" and it sequel "A Light in the Black". \m/\m/
The first time anyone hears this song they freak out. So unique and musical skills through the roof. Ronnie, Ritchie and Cozy are all in the conversation as best of what they do. Amazing stuff, modern audiences are stunned by this. I was lucky to see the Dio Rainbow 3 times. Unreal. Try Heaven and Hell from Dio's stint in Black Sabbath, different but the same high level of musicianship, another classic banger. Know this: they will be listening to all these people for centuries to come. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
GOAT heavy metal singer. I was privileged to see him twice back in the mid 80's. Wish I saw him with Rainbow and Black Sabbath.
I have heard this song so many times and I'm still getting blown away hearing it, Dio's vocals are totally insane (damn it's not fair how gifted he is and how easy it soundsfor him), definitely at his best here and then there's that incredible guitar solo and then the story of the song, it really is a full experience, like a opera honestly or hard rock/metal opera. Oh I almost forgot, I need to mention the absolutely incredible drummer too, this song really has everything.
Yt "live in Fukuoka" .
Amazing vocal performance🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely love Dio as a vocalist and entertainer. He captivates the crowd in a way that few can imagine. Love stargazer! Excellent choice of Song to react to. Try giving the album Rainbow on stage a listen. It’s a live album and he sings kill the king and catch the rainbow and sixteenth century green sleeves. Absolutely amazing!!! 👍🏻😎
he would've been perfect on a theater stage as a wizard or dark lord.
I don't listen to Rainbow much, or in fact any rock as I used to 40 + years ago - but whenever i listen to this, it brings a tear to my eye, the quality, the talent, the absolute legend that was Dio - RIP. Not to forget also Blackmore's wizardry, I also salute you sir.
All music can sounds bluesy, especially rock music, it based in blues. Blackmore is the Man. Please do more Purple or Rainbow stuff.
Would love to hear you react to " the Sign of the Southern Cross" ( Black Sabbath).. and or " Gates of Babylon "
You passed the Gates of Babylon to meet the Alchemists & Wizzards of Ancient Persia !
Ritchie Blackmore is the songwriter, arranger and the great responsible for this song jointly Dio. They always will be in our souls.
It has been an absolute joy seeing you react to the legendary and beloved Dio. \m/ \m/
Iy's always a treasure listening to DIO; wheere it's Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath or Solo.
Blackmore have done this time and time again....shown mindblowing techniques...but even more mindblowing is that Dio had almost no classical training in music. A Godgiven incredible talent...a true natural
Dio, Bruce Dickinson, and Rob Halford are the holy trinity of metal singers. For a reason.
Thanks for your comment! 🤘
Many people, me amongst them, believe Ronnie James Dio to be the greatest rock vocalist ever. This song probably more than any other just reinforces that. And all of this power and masterful vocal control came out of a very small package. RIP Ronnie, the world is a poorer place without you.
Ronnie James Dio is my fave Singer Ever ,i was 10 when my brother played Man on the sliver mountain by Rainbow then this album ,long live rock and roll,Ronnie with Black Sabbath, then his Band Dio, and then the SABBATH line up with Ronnie under the name Heaven and HELL till Ronnie past in 2010, may he R.I.P ,i love him and grew up with him
If I'm not mistaken, Ronnie James Dio actually dabbled in Opera early in his life...thanks for this reaction!
this was from the 70s most metal had alot of blues influence in it at the time if you check out Black Sabbaths the wizard it is a very bluesy track off their first album there was no metal at the time and it was forming as several styles merged together. the craziest thing is to think about Dio's physical size, he was a small man only about 5'4, but his voice makes you think he is huge
I love the bits where you are just like....yeah fuck that I am not even going to try that bit
I don't know why i don't get tired of watching you reacting to this song again and again, you make all kinds of expressions on your mouth, i laugh when i see your opened mouth stays put in awe, love your reaction, gud day, tc.
Ronnie started playing a trumpet as a boy. That's more than likely how he acquired the ability to push his voice in such a manner.
I was privileged enough to see Ronnie James Dio in concert 1986 during the sacred heart tour my favorite concert of all times
My 1st dio show as well and still my favorite show ever
The magic of Blackmore and Dio continues in other tunes like Temple of the King, Catch the Rainbow, Rainbow Eys, Gates of Babylon
Blackmore was known to smash guitars on stage when he was in Deep Purple.
This song was composed on a cello by Ritchie Blackmore with RJD... It makes sense with the middle eastern flavor of certain parts of song. Shows RJD's immaculate vocals with Blackmore's skills as a guitar virtuous !
You should check out the 2nd part of this song, its called " A Light In The Black" off of the Rainbow Rising Album.
Yt "live in Fukuoka" .
Simply amazing vocals 😮
All that strength and vocal power from a guy who stood 5 foot 5 in platform shoes and weighed 120 lbs...insane vocal power. He's said this song is about an Egyptian slave building a pyramid, and watching the "god" fall to his death when he thought he could fly...the 2nd part of this adventure is on the track that follows it, called A light in the black, which tells the story of the slaves journey home and his internal battles, having been somewhat institutionalized by the 9 years of servitude...great songs both.
You really, really need to listen to "Mistreated" by Rainbow from the Live in Munich '77 show to be utterly blown away by Ronnie's vocal performance. Thanks for the video.
Lots of that video in the background was actually Gates of Babylon
I have seen so many reactions to "Stargazer" and I always say something to the effect of "Please listen to Stargazer's forgotten twin sister A Light in the Black....if nothing else to hear the end of the saga.
Dio put out some legendary and top tier bangers in his 50 year career, but to me, this has always been his magnum opus.
Hello from New Hampshire B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L young lady!! 😎🤘❤🔥🎸🎧🎙... Great Reaction!!!
Thank you so much! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
All rock was born from the blues!
Maggie…at the end of the song….the repeating vdiffrent verses..I recognized me when I was hearing this song long ago…. Just adoring his voice and the beautiful composition….
It’s the Harmonic Minor scale that sounds like Egyptian mode.
This is part one of the Wizard part 2 is even better- a light in the black!!!
Yt "live in Fukuoka" .
Saw this went nuts. Yay!!!
Rainbow Mistreated 1977 live....Dio at his best
Yt "live in Fukuoka" .
I first heard this in July 1976 at Liverpool Empire and the crowd went nuts! In my opinion it’s the musical equivalent of “ Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin. Oh and Maggie, that guitar whirling around was Ritchie Blackmore in the process of destroying it as part of the encore song!! Great reaction. Thank you and stay safe out there.
Great reaction video! Love Dio. I got to see him fronting Black Sabbath after Ozzy left.
I always find it jarring when someone trying to force/edit a piece of music into videos that it didn't come from. The vocals only sometimes match the mouth in the video, same with the guitar and drums.
RONNIE james dio The Man On The Silver Mountain 🍺🌈🎃🎸⚡️🎶🎤🔥🤘🍷🎼🎤 From CHILE 🇨🇱 Long Live Ronnie James Dio
The Greatst Rainbow Song DIO/BLACKMORE ever written ! ..... same level as his CHILD IN TIME Composition.DEEP PURPLE/RAINBOW/WHITESNAKE.....where are this Music Quality Today ?????
... He’s been acclaimed, but deserves more recognition
So many reviewers totally miss the Middle Eastern feel throughout this song, but this young lady absolutely got it! Richie's solo is clever beyond words. And she got it! Good lass
The vowel " i " is fully open here and this, in my opinion, is a projection in full chest voice, not any possibility of singing fully open vowels in mixed chest or head voice in this way and simply because the high pitch starts to become compress from the moment it connects with the head voice, at least within what is studied in Vocal Physiology, not even great lyrical tenors like Pavarotti, Caruso or others have ever been able to sing fully open vowels, because they are using mixed chest voice very developed through the Bel Canto technique and open vowels can only be projected in chest voice, this is what Ronnie James Dio does here and it seems to me that other singing professionals also noticed this detail.
Worth noting that hard rock has its origin in the blues. In fact, hard rock was basically distorted rock plus blues. Listen to early Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Mountain, etc. and the connection is pretty obvious.
Yes you have now heard one of history's greatest rock guitarists and interperative guitarists.... He always usually seems to have a Medieval bent and a lot of his stuff especially nowadays. Richie Blackmore is an original and often Imitated ...no I should say others are often inspired by him
Yt "live in Fukuoka"
The solo scale? I guess it's Phrygian Dominant, the 5th scale of Harmonic Minor (iirc)
Ritchie Blackmore is now now leading with his wife in Blackmore's Knight-rock/ren music amazing stuff seem hime live twice
Jorn Lande is the new Dio extreme voice sign of the cross
Great reaction Girllll 👌👌👌😘🙏🏼Suggestion you'll never ever regret Renée...do ...GATES OF BABYLON 💜💥⭐....together with Stargazer...Rainbow's best songs 🌈🔥⚡
Thank you!! 🌈💖
Can you opera singers move to other octaves or do you stay in the ones you are comfortable with?
I love this video about Dio. 🤘
Love the lyrics... it's an analogy about people who deposit all their dreams and hopes on the promises of "wizards" that promise heaven for them (you know... like politicians).
They don´t even know why, but they suffered for almost a decade just to see this Wizard flying... THEY BELIEVED... and then... he falls and dies. And now, what the f do they do with their lives???
Masterpiece🔥🔥🔥🔥
A fantastic band. The Best. Especially with Dio.
If you know about music you should know that the Origins of Rock is the Blues !
Rainbow Rising is a story from start to finnish !
Stargazer does not end at the end of this song you need to listen to light in the Black
This is were it ends 😎🤟
What a great Album 🤟🤟🤟
"Musicianship skills" this is Ritchie Blackmore, babe.
One of the best songs ever heard it
I'd like a compare: Mistreated, Coverdale VS Dio, Purple VS Rainbow, Made in Europe (California Jam) VS On Stage (Munich).
Ronnie was inspired by the film The Silver Chalice starring Jack Palance as Simon the Magician (Simon Magus).
the studio recording is ok for this magnificent and epic neoclassic heavy metal song, but the "live in Cologne" version of this powerful song, actually gives the full picture of Ronnie James Dio's sound of thunder voice, also the flamming guitar riffing from Ritchie Blacmore poetic playing and the nuclear explosion of Cozzy Powell on the drums.
After Rainbow was Dio Member of Black Sabbath - check up Heaven an Hell
great review. keep reviewing rock classics. how about a review on Accept or Manowar?
Thank you for your suggestion. 😊
Guitar swinging = showmanship 😉
Blackmore is blackmore. Dio and Powell is in this "generation". The greatest one.
Yt "live in Fukuoka" .
Deep Purple "Burn" Live California Jam 1974
what´s Ritchie Blackmoore´s doing? He´s making the audience tickets worth the exact value of what they paid for😁
You would describe those "egyptian vibes" as Phrygian mode.
In hard Rock people over rock vocal blues influences as operactic because of the song lyrics but he VERY blues back ground but yes Richie guitar solo is called Arabian influences on this song. Have you done Black Crowes yet?
This my favourite song
A light in the Dark ( part 2 of Stargazer) and The Gates of Babylon.
Richard Blackmore always had little bluesy style to make riffs. But the riffs were very metal for that time.
Yes! Very middle eastern in flavor, much like Kashmir.
R.I.P RONNY JAMES DIO !
Stargazer...Masterpiece!!!
