The key to the look is to create fresh, super-luminous skin (instead of the thick pan-stick foundations women would have worn in the fifties), which adds a modern lightness and youthfulness that would not have been possible with make-up textures back in the mid 20th century. Mary also uses slightly unconventional eye shades and layers two red lipsticks to give the look an edge.

Thanks GTG for taking comments on board. We love Mary! There are a zillion vids on CZcams featuring tweenies. taking nothing away from Mary's genius, it's probably not that hard to make them look pretty great. If we could see her work her magic on a 'norm' who was a bit older, now that would be really amazing. I absolutely volunteer! I do travel to London quite often, I am 43 and half chinese and not a stunner so this would be a chance for Mary to really show what make up can do! :)

I adore Mary Greenwell I think the way she does makeup is just stunning. I just wish they would use models of a different ethnicity every now and then. The world is comprised of more than just Caucasian people.
In Europe, Chanel blushes and eyeshadows are poor pigmented, they are rocks. I don't know why it is different in USA. Look how Mary makes a big effort to dig into the chanel blush in order to pick up some colour.

Beautiful, although in the 50's eyebrows were incredibly thin and often painted on. I recall Lucille Ball had VERY thin eyebrows.

I liked EVERYTHING in here (Mary's techniques, beautiful-humble model, etc.) EXCEPT of the orange color and the too much of the lipstick. I would like a much more realistic color an not so much layering..
The model is gorgeous! I wish I looked like her.. But unfortunately I don't.. I am my own... But I want her eyes! Round prominent eyes.. Mine are almond Asian like... :/ I'm just a quarter Asian which is Spanish Filipino and the test of me is native.. But I have Asian eyes... Wish I had rounder eyes. Not beady looking.

Keilani Friday I was just thinking that a little diversity in the models wouldn't hurt :P You're not the problem. I also feel, after watching 10 of these videos showing young perfect looking white girls, like I look pretty wrong. Makeup should make you look your best, but it's hard to believe YOU can be beautiful when only one kind of beauty is portrayed.. I really love these videos, but something's really missing
+Keilani Friday Spanish Filipino?? Why can't it be Filipino Spanish? I don't understand how asian girls cannot be proud of their own race. Particularly quite a few filipinos. I'm one. Grew up in the UK. And I don't ever desire to be caucasian because I am not one. Asian eyes has the most varied, round, phoenix, hooded, etc shapes. Embrace it and be proud. Many other prominent makeup artist features beautiful asian to mix race models. Check them out.

Fifties eyeshadow was not pearly, iridescent or satin. Mat or sticks which were fatty.
I only know of 1 pic were they eyeshadow may have been pearly.
I love Mary as well, but agree the model looks very young (and quite nervous at the start!). I'd love to see her use more real women rather than already gorgeous teenage/early '20's models now and then.

How old is this model? 12? She looks very young. Why not use older models?
I love the tutorial however that little girl looks about 15 years old! Too young when selling to women in my humble opinion.
