  • Colorado Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland Press Conference after Huge NHL Trade Deadline Moves for Casey Mittelstadt from Buffalo Sabers & Sean Walker from Philidelphia for Ryan Johansen, Bo Byram, & 1st Round Pick. In this press conference, Colorado Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland discusses the recent NHL trade deadline moves involving Casey Mittelstadt from the Buffalo Sabers and Sean Walker from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Ryan Johansen, Bo Byram, and a first-round pick. MacFarland highlights the difficulty in trading Bo Byram, describing him as an amazing person and a great hockey player, but emphasizes the strategic decision to strengthen the team's defense and manage salary cap logistics. He also mentions the importance of acquiring players like Mittelstadt and Walker to improve the team's competitiveness and depth, especially in key positions. MacFarland expresses confidence in the trades made, underlining the team's continuous effort to build a stronger lineup for the playoffs while acknowledging the emotional challenges of such decisions.

Byrams next deal will be 6/7 mil wouldnt have fit in the cap anyways. chance here if casey does well he can sign a longer deal at a lower number. walker will be great in the avs system. landy could come back and holy shit this group is a wagon

Casey is also projected at that 6/7M mark, so that’s going to be a problem for the Avs. Some speculation that it’s part of the reason Sabres decided to trade him instead of sign him

@@Kevcon80 yup, middle will negotiate at least 6, so we're not saving money. And we won't he able to hold onto walker, so we'll lose him and ourn1st rd pick.
The trade helps the avs win thisbseason, but hurts th moving forward.

I wasnt gonna get my hopes up,& time will tell...tough to lose Bo,& his superstar potential. But as many have said-we definitely filled our greatest need-with our greatest strength-then filled what we lost with another dman who doesnt have the youth or ceiling of Bo-but right now/today is a better, more experienced,& consistent player,& should fit the bottom 4 role on a contender a bit better right now/today.
I expect Bo will eventually be the best player in either trade if he stays healthy,& he will get more opportunity in Buffalo. I see win/win for both teams-as these teams are in totally different stages,& have different short,& long term goals. I think both teams get exactly what they need-Avs are now much better equipped for a run now-Buffalo can afford to be patient with Bo.
Id love to see a veteran #2 goalie or whatever else they think-you can always get better. But if they do nothing else-Im ecstatic & give them an A+ in my opinion.Ya gotta factor in Parise also on the deadline grade-another win.We probably got slightly better on defense-already the NHLs best-albeit with a lil lower long term ceiling-& also massively improved our only glaring weakness...plus got a lil more cap space today. And its only Wed fam-but anything else they pleasantly surprise me with is gravy.

ha ha, noticed how he somewhat dodged that question on doubling down on johansen by talking about byram. he wont say it but he knows johansen is cooked and was a horrid acquisition. torts didnt want him on his roster 😂

Who do you think Toews was talking about in that post-game last month? "Some guys think they're playing well and they're kidding themselves." Personally, I think that was RyJo.

His Columbus connects would suggest he could have been involved drafting him? He gave him time to adapt and he just didn’t, it was a long shot low risk play I liked the gamble
