Brennan clearly wanted to keep going with advice and stipulations.
I'd watch a whole episode of that.

Remake Disney's Aladdin shot for shot with Brennan as the Genie, but instead of the Genie's big musical number he just monologues like this for the rest of the movie's runtime as Aladdin makes the rest of the plot happen without his help.
@@tjenadonn6158 The genie stops talking to Aladdin and is talking directly to the camera and you can just see Aladdin running around in the background during every monologue. It also continues throughout the end credits instead of music.
@@yourshoulderdevil5229 I was thinking he's just always hovering beside Aladdin regardless of what's going on. Climactic fight scene? Still there, still monologuing. The more genies wish probably is just going to end up with you being turned into a genie as well anyways.
I'd always wondered about the more genies thing. Glad to see someone else talk about it😂
"If you are thinking about asking for more genies, I WILL twist that to make you a genie. I do not recommend that wish. We're out of lamps. I mean, we have one of those lava lamps free, but they don't really get rubbed much and... there's the whole feeling like you're floating in gloop factor... So, yes, don't."
I love how he slipped in that the guy with the ring didn't actually get a ring, but had to track it down. Should've wished for powers outright.
Yeah, a good number of genies would just create the ring... but not actually give it to you; now you got to go find it. It's probably in a really inconvenient place too.

To be fair, Sauron wasn't human either. He was a Maia.
@DaraelDraconis no no no no no, Sonic is not maia.
Tbh genies absolutely *should* get to set their own preferences here!
Like yeah, not every genie is down for ~every~ kind of wish, and y'know? Despite the overt differential of power dynamics, it's *always* important to respect your genie's hard limits when setting mutual wish-granting expectations! Good communication is key between both parties to avoid harmful or unwanted outcomes; that's why Consensual Risk-Aware Wish-Granting (CRAWG) is considered best practices among the community :)
funny thing, in Aladin how the genie says the bring from the dead part seems to be a preference, and everyone thinks it's a hard rule in that film
@@ObeliskDemon ya, he doesnt like the look and act. “Its just not pretty” and stuff lol
Exceptional comment lol. I think much of the target audience here is just a wee bit too young to get the satire but I see you and I like what you did there
Also, many things can grant wishes, not just as djinn, and if you you get a genie granting you a wish, you better understand they're doing that BY CHOICE. They may have a code of honour or somesuch that leads to the decision, you did something nice for them and they want to repay you, but whatever principle it is, it's ultimately a principle they chose to follow and aren't ultimately bound by if you start treating them like like a dick or they just no longer feel like it.
Yeah, I kinda lost the BDSM track there, but I think it needs to be said: Djinn aren't wish granting machines; they are just powerful people who show actual kindness and gratitude because they don't gain said power from exploitation or privilege but being a metaphysically manifest being maneuvering the very fabric of existence in a way most humans just don't. They'll grant you a wish if they please, they understand it, and it's in their own power to give or get.
I now need a series about genies just trying to explain this and then complaining to the audience after all the shenanigans:
“See?! This. This is what I was talking about. I warned you! Repeatedly! But did you listen? Nooooo... You guys saw, right?”
I love how, in the movie, Genie said that He can't bring anyone back from the dead but then goes on to say "It's not a pretty picture and I don't like doing it." which implies that he in fact CAN bring people back from the dead and almost certainly HAS done so but hated the results so much that he asks his masters not to do it.
It implies that no one can stop Robin Williams from improvising. 😆
But ya know what? ... if you think about it, he clarifies how he can't bring back the person you once knew, & that wishing for it will animate their corpse into a grotesque shambling husk. 🤷 That's no more "bringing grandma back" than using a series of ropes & pulleys to puppeteer her body like a marionette.
I mean, I don't think he ever says he CAN'T, just that he WON'T. So yea, all three rules could be a preference thing. Iirc the official stories do the same; they are never actually saying the genie/djinn can't.
I like the idea of that every Genie can get three general rules that they are allowed to make regarding their wishes. And I imagine several Genies kind of followed that base guideline. Meanwhile there is a Genie there who will totally kill people for you, but he won't allow you to physically change anybody's body because they don't believe in taking away someone's autonomy.
@@BioYuGiThe "I can't Kill Anyone" rule seems to be a set rule. Because I doubt Jafar would be opposed to it and he couldn't directly kill in Return of Jafar.

In the context of royalty that doesn't make any sense. Sure you can point to GB which is capitalist and has a royal family, but that is not the norm. For 99% of examples you'd be deposing a royal autocracy with a command, mercantile, or colonial economy.

You can absolutely tell Brennan's political frustration are growing, he has always woven his beliefs into his comedy, but this with the royalty and the old timey miner felt different. And I love it.
@Sam Wallace Except it actually isn't with him because he has a philosophy degree and when he talks you can tell he actually gives a shit and clearly has thought about it deeply. Also I'm pretty sure he grew up lower/ working class based on his anecdotes and he doesn't like capitalism so Bourgeois _Really_ doesn't apply lol. I think what you were aiming for was more "Artsy faux-Intellectual" (Which also isn't true). 2: marked by a concern for material interests and respectability and a tendency toward mediocrity
3: dominated by commercial and industrial interests : CAPITALISTIC
: a person with social behavior and political views held to be influenced by private-property interest : CAPITALIST

Hey if you listen the genie in Aladdin says he "I can't bring anybody back from the dead, I don't like it!" So he can and has just won't anymore.
Yeah, I would guess that his "rules" are just wishes he doesn't want to grant, not ones he can't.

I could see Robin Williams having this in his stand up if he were still around
"If you want to wish for a ring that gives you the powers of a dark sorcerer, just watch the Lord of the Rings and change your mind."

To be fair… a Genie explaining how to make a wish better overall would be a pretty cool thing for one to do! You usually hear about a Genie either simply granting the exact wish a person wants, or somehow twisting it for their amusement. But never have I heard of a Genie giving advice on how to make a wish better and safer all around! 😂
Does this imply the first hard three can be done but that’s where every genie just draws the line
In Aladdin they way he described bringing people back from the dead as unpleasant suggest he can indeed do so, he just doesn't want to. So maybe...

To be fair you can pass the ring down to your descendants.
"People spend so much time thinking about what they CAN wish for. They never think about whether they SHOULD."
Besides the point, but I just wanted to bring up that Disney’s Aladdin invented (or at least popularized, I don’t know for sure) basically all the “rules” for genies, including them being automatically bound to lamps. Technically they don’t have to give anything, they can just choose to give one or more wishes when freed from imprisonment. Which could be a lamp, but could also be a ring, or a jar. And they’d grant wishes (if you got lucky) through having lived longer and accumulated wealth, or knowledge of magic, or wisdom on how to get what you want, etc, not just straight up reality warping.

Love the off-handed Sauron origin-story!!!!!
You see there's a way to get around the rules... you grab a piece of paper and a pencil, start making a list. Then say "Okay, I wish for everything on this paper to come true."
was look for this comment and thought of something else that might work too "I wish to have the power to grant infinite wishes of my own at my disposal with a toggle switch so i don't accidentally say a wish I don't want to come true" and then "I wish that my wish powers granted exactly what I want without any Monkey' Paw or loopholes" and then just so that my genie was set free "I wish to end inflation" because if I say "doesn't exist" than it would never exist and it would impact stuff and change the past and if it impacts the genie than a paradox would happen but I said "I wish that ___ would end" than everything that inflation impacted up to that point would have still happened but from then on inflation wouldn't exist.
