One interpetation of the movie is WE are the ancient ones, the ones that demand horror films to be gory and grusome and such hehe.
Fun fact: they couldn’t let Marty be shirtless during the scene of everyone swimming at the lake because the actor that plays him is super ripped almost more so than god of thundah and were worried it wouldn’t pan with the stoner vibe he was supposed to have.

I love how near the start you wondered, "Why is it always this specific group of characters getting killed?" and then the movie actually comes up with an explanation for why it's always those specific character types (Athlete, Scholar, Whore, Fool, and Virgin).
Glad it actually addressed it instead of just doing it for the sake of doing it lol
This is the most meta horror film I've ever seen! The movie was going to be released in 2009, but due to MGM facing bankruptcy, they delayed the release of the movie for 2 years till it was released in 2011.
It actually came out in 2012, only a few weeks before The Avengers
If you think this is the most meta, then you haven't watched the Scream franchise.
@@vailingbow1068 The Cabin In The Woods is definitely more meta than Scream. The nature of the movie is how horror movies are created. Granted, I prefer Scream. But it's not as meta

They surely didn't purposely make Nancy Loomis look like Mrs. Vorheez in the 1st Friday the 13th. Not like they have Randy (JAMIE Kennedy) telling JAMIE Lee Curtis to look behind her when the killer is behind Randy. Yeah, definitely NOT more meta than Cabin in The Woods 🙄 not like Scream has 6 movies (soon 7) to be less meta than Cabin in The Woods that only has 1 movie.
@@vailingbow1068 I never said Scream isn't meta, but it's meta-commentary still isn't as extreme as The Cabin In The Woods' meta-commentary. And there's a reason Cabin didn't get any sequels. I have a feeling you haven't even seen the movie if you don't know 💀
Crazy that this movie was shot in like 2009 and got delayed and came out within like a couple months of the first Avengers movie.
I saw this with some friends and they all thought it was boring and I'm sitting there mindblown that this movie basically explains almost every single horror movie lmao I love this movie.
Glad you enjoyed this, it is one of my fav horror movies because it is so unique with the twist. I love movies like Evil Dead and this took it in a really interesting direction!

I absolutely love the piece of trivia where Marty's actor was ripped as fuck during the filming of the movie, so they kept him on the docks instead of in the water so Chris would be the muscular jock character. He's also wearing all these baggy clothing to conceal the fact how well trained his body was at the time.

The gods are us, we are the ones upset when a horror movie doesn't go by the normal rules. The virgin (even though she isn't a virgin cause she slept with her teacher) didn't live, so we are upset. And the workers are the directors of this "movie"

this movie was SO GOOD. Using Evil Dead as a base was genius and playing with various 80s film tropes was perfect. Especially with the idea of 'the final girl' that became a perpetuated thing
Take everyone’s personality in the opening scene vs how they act in the cabin and it’s LEAPS AND BOUNDS different. Thor (let’s be real he’s Thor now) is outright recommending which textbooks to use and warns final girl that she’s in front of a window with no pants (respecting women!), Jules is kind of shy with showing affection and is in a happily committed relationship, Book Bro doesn’t really speak but he’s shown to be athletic by catching the football thrown out the window, Final girl outright says “why did I say that it’s not true” when acting ‘virginal’ despite having been sleeping with her professor, and Marty is the same because of the weed!
This movie is a masterpiece!! So happy you loved it so much!!
Love this movie, the best analysis I've ever heard was the old gods are old school horror fans, they demand the blood and death and the stereotypes. The "government" is the movie studios trying to placate the fans by bending and manipulating the movie to fit. We as the audience simply are along for the ride.
This movie was so fun I'm still waiting for a sequel cause they said they were supposed to do a sequel for cabin in the woods😁😆 it was cool when they added every monster from almost every horror in this film
The big guy with the round puzzle box was a nod to Pinhead from the Hellraiser series. A must watch for any horror fan.

I loved this movie when I finally found it. I'm a huge horror fan but somehow slipped my radar until like 2018 but thought the spin they put on it was fun af.
"This is like, Scooby Do, Evil Dead, and Marvel" MY DUDE, this has been my favorite movie for a decade and that is the most accurate description I've ever heard. The writer of this literally assembled The Avengers.
Marty in this movie was actually super ripped. So they had him wear a bunch of big clothing so he didn’t look bigger than Thor😂😂
I enjoyed this a lot more now that I understood than when I was younger and watched it lol. It’d be really cool if we could have backstories on each of the “monsters” the clown, the little girl, etc !

Fun fact, almost everything was entirely practical. The director's one rule was if it could be practical and without cgi, they would make it. He soon regretted that decision but its amazing how much they were able to do. I also think its so cool how they filmed the creatures in the cubes

I am so happy that you love this movie! This is a top 5 horror movie for me and the kind of one that I get other people into horror with.
i love this movie so much, with the way plot goes you could basically say that this government is the cause/behind every horror movie, which i love even more
All 5 of the college students actors were cast because they were "unknowns", but after filming ended the movie was stuck in post production for over 2 years, Chris Hemsworth had his Thor movie in 2011 and Jesse Williams had been cast on Grey's Anatomy since right after filming ended in 2009

Fun story: Me and my friend always show each other horror films the other person hasn't seen yet on Halloween. We've done this for over ten years now. And one Halloween I showed him this movie and he was FREAKING OUT, because he then went on to show me the original The Evil Dead for the first time. It was a fun night. 😅🤭

This was a great movie reaction. This movie was one of my favorite horror movies too. Fun fact: The actress who played "The Director" near the end of the movie is the actress Sigourney Weaver from "Aliens (1979)". ^_^
This is one of my favorite horror films. I really enjoy it from start to finish. Your perspective of seeing Thor in this all through out is funny. So the company gets every scary film villain & put it against people to face them for their entertainment

Fun fact: the production company, AFX Studios, used mostly practical effects which is co-owned by none other than Heather Langenkamp and her husband; The one and only Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street 🙌🏽😁 Ross Whedon also asked Chris Hemsworth to audition for Thor through this film, as he directed it and then moved on to Marvel. Freaking LOVE this movie
Could I suggest a movie called Doghouse? It's a UK horror/comedy about a bunch a guys who travel to a small town and find all the women have been turned into psychotic zombies

You guys should watch Bad Times at the El Royale. Chris Hemsworth is really entertaining in that and I think it's a really well-made movie. There's a bunch of crazy stuff that happens so you would still have plenty of material to make jokes about, though. Anyway, great video!
