I just came to hear Lars talking Danish
Same
Barely...
You don't realy talk/speak Danish. It's more like slurring some other nordic language.
@@FrancoUnAmericano wow ur so full of negativity my friend
@@FrancoUnAmericano lars nearly rare speaking dannish its a cool to see hes speaking hes native country
For those that don't know Lars came to the USA when he was 16-17 years old to compete as a tennis player. Not only is his first language Danish, he lived in Denmark his entire childhood, only moved to the USA for the last years of high school. He's not an American with Danish heritage, he's a Dane through and through who founded Metallica, an America rock band.
Lars is from uruguay
@@nemesysxr0163 Nope! He's from Antarctica, raised by penguins. The penguins arbitrary way of picking on him formed his style of playing the drums.

Lars Ulrich 💯% 🖤🇩🇰
💯% love Metallica 🖤🤟
💯% metal hilsen fra Danmark 🇩🇰 🤟🖤👋
I also enjoy his pronunciation of "Metallica" when he's in Danish mode
Lars tone of voice and rhetoric is so 80's Denmark, it's actually pretty funny to hear.
I had been wondering about that. Don't really understand Danish, but I have lived outwith my native language area for more than 20 years and I sound old-fashioned in my mother tongue. Also detected quite a few English words injected into the Danish, but can't judge what are common loan words and what are "mistakes"
@@gwaptiva in danish, we do use a lot of english words, especially swearwords suxh as "fuck" and "shit" but also a lot of other words. But even though it aounds like nonsense to a person who doesnt speak fanish, english and danish actually shares a tonne of words, both because danish hss loaned a lot of words from modern english but also because the english language has been inspired a lot by danish actually
He is from gentofte . what do you expect
gwaptiva native language = Scots?
@@magnuspetersen4706 lol Magnus its orinally the other way around. ITS only modern English words we use nowadays. English language h as a Lot of Danish like window - vindue etc. Look it up its interesting.
Wow! Lars is a totally different person in Danish. I guess this is more the real Lars.
True !
He’s kind of trapped between two languages I guess. His danish is very rusty which means he doesn’t speak either native English or Danish. So a bit trapped when trying to deeply express himself

I used to think Lars seemed like an asshat, but after watching this he actually seems like a nice chill guy.
He's always nice to everyone in the meet and greet videos
He is, Danes might just seem to be a bit rude at times, even when that's not the case. Cultural differences.
people tend to think he still acts like he did during the documentary of st-anger, but after that was done he got clean and pulled himself up, and for years he has been a very chill and nice guy, he is polite whenever he is meeting fans or interviewers, sometimes he may speak a bit direct or not politically correct, and some find that offensive but that is how most of us Danes speak to people, we usually cut right to the core of the issue or the questions, to find the problem or the answer depending on the situation. :)
@@@Masterfighterx Who doesn´t rude sometimes.
naaahhhh....still an asshat, lol
Metallica's new single Danish Dynamite
Just wait, it'll be the bomb!
Oh no.. makes me think of the horrible Danish football anthems during the 80s when our national team's playing style was referred to as "Danish Dynamite". Yikes :D
they'd need to sort some copyright issues out for that
pretty sure he was cover it as "templar knights"
This is one of the best interviews I've seen. They were just buddies. The interviewer was funny as shit. And Lars really came off like a nice guy. Glad they didn't find a backpack filled with college books.
The interviewer is the host (well used to be, at the time of this video) of a comedic night time TV show, where they show funny clips (usually weird people/comments/bloopers from local news) from the past week and makes funny jabs at it. It usually includes guest, and Lars has been a guest of the show several times, so there's an existing bond between them. The former American Ambassador in Denmark, Rufus Gifford, has been a recurring guest as well (czcams.com/video/e4k-Icb99QA/video.html). He also used to host a satirical radio show.
I agree 👍

As a Norwegian, I can attest to this: Lars is a true Dane. Through and through. Jolly and full of good vibes!
As a dane i can confirm
Kæft der er mange nordmænd her i kommentarerne 😁😁
Say what you will about Lars, not many drummers in their 50's that can still jam thrash metal on drums. Total respect! The man is a machine!
This "Lars is a totally lousy drummer" - you only read on the internet. It's just become a meme.
Sure, he's not the best drummer in the world, but he's not bad either. Anyone who really unironically claims Lars is a really, really bad drummer has no idea.
As proof then often comes up some yououtube video in which a few short scenes were cut together in which he messes up or doesn't keep the beat. Taken literaly from thousands of hours of studio and live footage,
You could put together a video like this for every drummer in the world.
Great video.....much respect for Lars...when he tells the Rolling Stones story, you realize just how grounded he has remained, dude is still gracious as hell with every interviewer, fan at meet n greets, etc. Cool to find out he was knighted in Denmark. Good stuff.
I rest my case....watch that drool
Never heard lars speak danish
Nat soc metalhead you heard him counting in Danish at least. Remember how “St Anger” song starts on the video. Lars counts till 4 in Danish ;)

Lars' dialect is so wonderfully stereotypically Copenhagen.
Doe's Lars danish is fluent?
@@Tal.10 Yes, he was born and grew up in Denmark. his Danish is just a bit old-fashioned.
Lars with pretty much any other journalist from every other country: 😑🤨🙄😔🤔
Lars with Danish Journalists: 😍🤪😆🤗
Can't say I blame him...
He's a solid drummer, just not to technical. I think people making fun of his drumming is more of a meme now...
Like Kirk with the "Wah Wah" pedal.
He ate barbecue in Copenhagen with the journalists and another Danish famous journalist, in a small community garden, riding in on a bike. A pretty lowkey interview
Lars is THE man. So down to earth, so normal. Gotta love him.
it sounds like english being played backwords
Anglia was the southern part of Denmark. Southern & Eastern Britain got invaded by the Jutes, Saxons, & Agles and became "Angland." So for historical reasons there is a lot of old Danish in English, so it's not surprising it sounds a bit like "wrong" English.
As a “moon walk” English?! Lol
The UK and Denmark used to basically have the same language until about the 8th century.
In fact, even now, Danish words are spelled quite similarly to English words. It's just the fact that they are pronounced completely differently.
What happened is that, around the 10th century, the Normans (French) invaded and occupied England. Which changed the entire culture. Including how words were pronounced. Which essentially created a new language.
But if you go to Northern English cities, they actually use a lot of Danish words in their dialect. Even now.
So the reason it sounds slightly familiar is because their is a lot of crossover. And he's actually using a lot of words, that are spelled similarly to the English version, but are pronounced completely differently.
That's really the big difference between English and Scandinavian. They actually use similar words, but they pronounce them COMPLETELY differently
We swedes say that they speak swedeish but with a potato down their throat.

To anyone asking for subtitles: I'm currently working on English subtitles!
Miselfis you did the subtitles? Thanks didn't expect you here ahahha
Lier
I am American and speak/write fairly good Danish. I can do the subtitles because I think it would help English speakers enjoy the video more. It's fairly normal conversations they are having, but it would still be much better. If I submit subtitles will you attach them to the video Miselfis? I only ask cause it will take a little bit of work so I don't want to do it for no reason. I have done it for other video's though with good success.
Nevermind I just noticed you already did the subtitles when I turned them on. Nice! Glad everyone can enjoy it.
Listening to Lars speak Danish is like listening to the Van Halens speak Dutch.
or dave lombardo speakin spanish

I don't understand a word of it, but it sounds so relaxed!

Love that he would newer consider himself as an American. He is a Dane living in America.
Weird to hear him go from Danish to having to use English. It's like American Lars and Danish Lars at the same time at 16:35
Really cool special..love how Lars is so proud of who he is and where he's from..awesome..
Drummer myself and fan of Lars and Metallica for 30 years. Very cool to see this, thanks for uploading. Lars is a good guy.
Its nice to see Lars happy.
I started playing drums 25 years ago watching Lars and Metallica. He may not be the best drummer of the world but he’ll be MY best drummer forever because he was the one who inspired me and changed my life. Hope he’ll be always healthy and never stop being Metallica 💪
I like how he acknowledges the camera man as well. Not just the two of them.
10:02 "Sometimes I have dreams where I sit down and can't reach the drums" LOL
I really enjoyed this video, thanks to the guys who put it together.
You really provided a great video. Thanks.
SOOO nice to see that Lars still honors and loves his 🇩🇰 after 40 years of living in the US. What a wonderful down to earth lovely guy. My respect and cheers fm 🇵🇹
Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Lars has such a thick Copenhagen accent when speaking Danish🤣🤣
As a swede, I understand around around 50% of the things Lars says, it's weird. Norwegian I can understand 90+% and finnish is basically chinese.
As a finn I don't blame you. It's a totally different language family and has pretty much nothing in common with swedish, norwegian or danish.
It's also funny that being somewhat fluent in swedish, I can read danish and norwegian to some extent but as soon as they open their mouths (especially the danes) I'm utterly and hopelessly lost
Beautiful language of Olsen gang. Long live Lars😈😈
That's probably the first time I've seen someone praise the "beauty" of Danish...
Bodoron try to speak polish. 😈😈😈
Maroonia77 no thanks, I'm good 😀
Bodoron be careful what you're saying.

Although I watched this one video once before, I was still recommended this video again after about 3 months after watching Biker Jens in the US 🤘🏻😎
Amagine this life. Its gotta be so awsome. They are so blessed and pros. Bye now. I remeber waiting in line for there very first album
“I’m trying. I’m doing my best.” Man, I felt that. I took up guitar about a year ago, still butcher everything I try to play. Literally feels like I can’t do it. But these guys keep me going and I really wish I could tell them that, straight to face even tho I’d prob stutter my words out. This whole interviews amazing.
Listening to these Danish men speaking their language is so fascinating, especially as European history, language, and culture are subjects I find interesting and entertaining. The Scandinavian languages belong to a group known as Germanic languages. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the language derived from Germany but that this is a subcategory of European languages found in Scandinavia, Germany & Holland (I’m sure I’m probably missing a few countries but these are the only ones I know of). Long story short, if you listen carefully you will hear certain words that sound like an English accent when spoken by Lars and the other Danes in the video. Old English was a Germanic language, before the translation to a Latin based language. There are competing theories about whether the Anglo Saxons, a group of peoples from modern day Germany, influenced Old English or if it was the “Vikings” that Old English derived from.
Languages don't move from one group to another just like that. English, modern and the old ones are Germanic languages. A language can have strong influences from other languages, like for example modern English vocabulary is about 60% loan words from French/Latin. But it still remains a Germanic language.
Wow, this totally changed my perception of Lars, cool to see his Danish side
as a metalhead who's also learning Danish, this is pure gold for me.
Why tf are you learning danish🤣🤣
Dont get me wrong. Im from denmark and i love my country and my language.
But you cant use this language to shit🤣🤣
Except if you are from germany or something😅
I was waiting for the "F*CKING NAPSACK" moment, but surprisingly it never came. Lars seems like a nice guy.
That's the craziest thing I've watched on CZcams in a long time.
Very, very nice documentary. I like it.
This is actually a fascinating interview/insight into Lars. I guess speaking in his own language brings out another side to his personality
i speak 5 different languages but i´m feelin home in my home dialect rooted in reutlingen. great to see lars as lars and not as one who has to translate its thoughts into a foreign language.
I almost forgot he's not from the U.S.
EDIT: Holy hell, he's a fucking knight

Question for Danish people: "how does he sounds while speak danish,is his accent like diferent"??
Pretty normal north copenhagen accent hehe.
He kinda sounds like a typical man from Copenhagen, but like one from the 1980s which makes sense of course, as that's when he left.
and he has no trouble explaining himself in his own language (: ..
His dialect is definitely from copenhagen as danes from copenhagen tend to say the words more literal than danes from other parts of denmark
Danish language is different to how it was in the 80's? that's weird.
We should make a coalition of "red and white" Danish dynamite; Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, Poland, Monaco,Turkey, Indonesia and Japan!
such wholesome this guy is. literally no ego

Huge Metallica fan here… have followed them since 1984…. but over the years I’ve become less and less enamored with some of the band as people. That changed hugely with this short film….Lars seemed more humble, more relaxed, more ….northern European (laid back) than I’ve ever seen before.
