So many thanks: I've been thinking hard about how to juxtapose text with imagery and music!
The group still performs as "AyanAgalu" and should be coming to the US this year! Feel free to check out my website for more information about them. That said, some of the performers in these videos have passed away or are no longer performing.

Wow, I'm amazed of how similar Puerto Rican Bomba is to Bata. Of course, we have Yoruba ancestry in our culture because of the slavery trade after PR's discovery.

    Debbie:
Thanks again, for another superbly produced documentary about Bata drumming, music, and the Bata-Fuji fusion derivative by the new generation of the performers. I'm impressed about your assimilation and understanding of the culture.
Yes, "assimilation" is a key to understanding most cultures; especially the Yoruba (language, culture and idioms).
The Oyinbo couple comedy skit is hilarious... thanks for the good laugh. (-:

Thanks. Yes, it's the same footage, plus a new clip of Idiat & Tunde. Mostly, I wanted to add the storyline, explaining what fuji music is and how it relates to bata. Also, I wanted to communicate Lamidi's perspective on the disappearance of traditional bata.

That didn't sound like fuji to me, it sounded more like apala (the live performance/oju agbo ) but this is a lovely video and I appreciate the contents.
    Proudly Yoruba!!
