    I still remember my dad buying one in Fall of '95 going into '96. I was in 6th grade and thought it was so cool! He ordered it straight from the factory. He got to pick out his options, trims, colors, etc etc. It delivered early December 1995 and it was pretty much our family Christmas gift. Forrest Green color and it was beautiful! I still remember the digital outside temperature gauge and compass on the upper hear board inside. I thought that was so cool! Then my dad sold it 2 years later and got a Ford Taurus. Yeahhhh huge down grade.

    I like Explorers. But I'd choose a 1995 Ford Taurus LX wagon from the same year over this Explorer for doing daily driving around town, for its superior handling due to being a passenger car, and similar interior room/cargo space. Honestly what's the point of owning an SUV other than ground clearance? Most of these never actually went offroading. Most in the 90s just used SUVs as a city driving family car. Other than winter driving and ground clearance I don't see much of a point.

    I have a nice 93 Mazda Navajo. It's all stock except I put manual hubs on it and when I had the transmission rebuilt I upgraded some of the internal parts to make it more efficient/durable. I also put a bigger transmission cooler on and a extra capacity transmission pan and a transmission temp gauge. The automatic transmission definitely has some shortcomings in these vehicles. I change the fluid and filter every 30k miles. The 95 & newer transmission is better than the A4LD 90-94 automatic transmission. It's not really that much better though it's basically just an electronic shifted version of the old A4LD old one. It also has torrington bearings instead of bushings in it. I love my Explorer but I'd love it more if they didn't put a pos weak ass transmission in a 4x4.

    • @acephantom903
      @acephantom903 Před 7 lety

      +Larry Severson Probably too late but I'll help if I can. Check battery power. If the battery is strong then listen to what happens when you try to ignite. Do you hear the fuel pump from the rear activating? Is the starter trying to turn? If both of those are true then you may want to check your spark plugs and if the plugs are getting power. Checking the power should be done by someone trained in using a multimeter to reduce the chance of injury or damage to the electronic system.

      Jack Frost The Problem with Ford is the 4.0 SOHC engine those engine don't last .

    • @JSW793
      @JSW793 Před 9 lety +2

      ***** That might be the case, but I wouldn't know since I haven't owned one, I always like to go on personal experience anyway when judging vehicles. The older OHV 4.0's can take a good beating though. They're easier to work on too in case something does happen, no timing chains on the heads to mess with. They're just a bit underpowered vs. the SOHC. But then again if I was getting a 2nd gen like this, I'd get the 5.0 anyway, otherwise I'd personally rather have a 1st gen.
      Being a Ford guy myself, the only reason I'd get a similar year Dodge Durango is for their Magnum V8 engines, Those are beasts. That and they look pretty cool. I'm not gonna sit here and say the Explorer's better though, I just happen to like it better than the Durango. From my experience, I can say that having owned a 99 Explorer V8 in the family for 5 years, the only bad thing that happened to it was when it got totaled.
