  • This one surprised me so much, it's the amalgamation of a classic chypre with a massive oriental exotic twist! Dark, mysterious and edgy.

    I'm a woman and I love this scent but I agree it does lean a little masculine especially in the dry down! This is a great fragrance for someone who is mysterious, sophistacted, seductive, and a little edgy/intense. Strong and silent types for sure. I could see someone who is well travelled and has some hobby like collecting rare books wearing this. The drydown is where the leather notes come through. The first notes remind me of when I lived in the middle east and I would walk through the bazaar smelling all the incense wafting out of the shops.

    You can’t go wrong with any of the Amouage fragrances. I love them all. Very unique fragrances and interesting. Even if I don’t like the smell at first, after the dry down I just adore them.
    One of my favorite Niche houses

    Memoir and Lyric are my two favourite Amouages. Both are full bottle worthy. Memoir has the most beautiful incense in my opinion. Wear Memoir and never be forgotten. :)

    Love love love your reviews. They have everything I want - enthusiasm, cheekiness, breakdown of notes, explanations of notes, what the scent evokes, the trajectory from opening to dry down and just overall fun! Thank you for Fab content from the bottle of my heart!

    I've been waiting for this review! When I first tried this I really did not like it. Why? Because it was very similar to Coco Chanel (which I don't like, but have bc my husband loves it) to my nose, except with added absinthe and stronger labdanum. However, the more I try it, the more I like it. I still find it similar to Coco, but WAY better. It's a very dark green chypre (with an oriental flare, imho). I like chypres, but I like fruity chypres the most, like Mitsouko and Femme Rochas. I'm not too fond of floral chypres at all. Though this has a fruity tone and has floral notes it is not really fruity or floral...it is green!!! It performs very well and is high quality! I think the dry down is a little meh, so I have not been able to decide on a FB or not. To me the opening leans masculine and the dry down leans feminine, but it's definitely unisex. As a side note, this house classifies other fragrances as chypres that imo are not: Fate and Beloved, for example...I'm not sure why that is, but if you aren't a fan of chypres don't let this brands classifications scare you away. Also, I don't think anything from Amouage is a safe blind buy, try before you buy if at all possible!! Thanks for another great review Tom!!

      Mrs Press that’s the allure of Amouage perfumes, even if u don’t like it at first or u think u hate it, u end up loving it the longer u wear it. It really grabs u and pulls u in and wins u over.
      But u really have to be a frag head and enjoy unique fragrances.

    just got the extrait of this, its my no1 scent, love it so much! I suspect its been reformulated but its still very heavy & I get a good 9 hours from it, I get about 3-4 hours from the edp, great review, your attire matches perfectly with the scent lmao.

      @ouch110  Před 7 lety +2

      Thanks dude!! 3-4 hours for the edp?? whaaaaaa? I get a much better performance than that. Like I said in the vid, I wore this out for a long night out and I could still smell it easily when I got home in the wee hours. I would love to try the extrait, might look into it. :)

    I received my full bottle of this today after trying a sample. Love this fragrance. While it has some ever-so-slightly feminine leaning white floral touches, I think this is a unisex fragrance and men can easily pull this one off. Anyone who appreciates high quality perfume should sample it.

    I almost don’t see it as a Chypre. Personally I am into florals, but this is just amazing. I was wearing it last night and sprayed it on myself while getting ready. More than 15 hours later my robe smells of it. On me I get the wormwood, frankincense, Rose, woods (not Oud but rather cedar), leather, then a little musk. I do not get the oak moss on my skin, thankfully. I am thinking of layering it with Amouage rose attar, that combo could work really well.

    • @ouch110
      @ouch110  Před 4 lety

      That layering sounds cool, to add more floral to this dark beast haha. I deffo get the chypre style feeling from it but in a modern setting, it's very cool but not an everyday thing.

    I tried Memoir Man, and it was wayyyyy too "green" for me. After my interest was piqued by your olfactory appraisal in this video, I tried Memoir Woman, and...I absolutely love it! Such a delightfully odd, moody, multi-faceted, magnetic, mystifying gem of fragrance.
    Much more of a prominent "absinthe" note in it, in contrast to Memoir Man; and considerably more mysterious and balanced. Perfect for "upscale black" attire evenings; especially when you want to add an elusive, dominant, devious yet sexy, intimidating yet desirable edge to one's persona. };)>
    I wore it on several very different occasions: a wine-tasting cruise, a Renaissance Fair, a steampunk festival, and a goth club (at which I drank some absinthe to compliment the heavy dose of Memoir Woman I was rocking). Got very interesting, intrigued, complimentary reactions at all of them.
    Thank you for pushing me over the edge with this one! Your perfect description was the prime selling point for me. Cheers :)

    I can never disentangle the essences in this one. They all blend in so nicely. What I can feel is warmth but warmth in the darkness. It's like I go down into some cave but the cave is surprisingly warmth and sweet, but not too sweet. It opens my imagination very vividly. I see it warn with some dark clothes, it's sophisticated and unusual compared to other Western fragrances. This was my first Amouage perfume that drove me crazy when I first tried it. I just couldn't, really couldn't, take my mind off it. I had to have it. 😃

    Oh wow u know what the dry down is where this one shines . I actually love it now. I’m gonna buy a bottle. I need to give perfumes a chance and not claim to hate it from the opening. What a beautiful Fragrance this one turned out to be. I love the smokiness. I love the dry down very much. And yes it leans masculine but I don’t care, I wear what I love.

      Bracken is SO good it will definitely be my next purchase from Amouage. Myths is way way difficult to like it's really vintagey and rough. I've tried lots of the men's and the only one I like is Reflection. The women's like is much better. Lyric is LOVELY! Opus 9 is the king of them all though hehe.

    I love your channel, you're a pro!!!! Which Amouage would you recommend for someone who loves Oud like me, but also a bit sweet? Something less intense than the "Myth" one from Amouage ( my favorites are the Oud Wood from Tom Ford and Mon Guerlain and also the Oud one from Atelier de Cologne) weird taste, I know! Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏

    Which amouage fragrance would you reccomend to someone who likes powdery woody fragrances (infusion d'iris, chanel 19 poudre, lolita lempicka l'eau en blanc..)? I also like male fragrances such as saffron amber cardamom from korres-that's one example.

    • @ouch110
      @ouch110  Před 7 lety +1

      I would probably say to try their one called Lilac love or Lyric. Lyric is a gorgeous powdery rose one. But..Amouage aren't really known for their soft approach to fragrances. Seek out Lyric though, it's stunning.

    Great review! I've heard this fragrance compared to Agent Provocateur's L'Agent I purchased L'Agent based on youtube reviews -- it's intense. How would you compare Memoir to L'Agent?

    • @ouch110
      @ouch110  Před 7 lety +1

      With this comparison I don't really think they smell alike either, where L'agent is focused more on the myrhh and resins and leather, this one is much greener and rougher. Both are heavy yes and I guess they might have a similar feeling but they certainly don't smell alike at all. I have both of them. That helps!

    • @ouch110
      @ouch110  Před 4 lety +1

      Gosh, Memoir woman is the more edgy dark one, and lyric is softer and like a suede rose. Uniqueness? Memoir all the way! It combines a classic chypre style but with tons of incense, it's so dirty and awesome.

    I have AP L'Agent, which I'm not that keen on (too dusty/sneezy) - how do they compare with you?

    • @ouch110
      @ouch110  Před 7 lety +1

      I see that a lot of people compare them, I personally don't really see it. They do not smell alike at all to me. L'agent is all about the resins, leather and incense, with a powdery floral opening and this one is rougher and showcases the greener aspects. I find no green in L'agent (I LOVE it though). I would call Memoir a Chypre and L'agent an Oriental. Different olfactory families completely. :) This one is dusty too though on drydown, the oakmoss does kinda take hold, but..it's supposed to, it's a Chypre. hehe. :)

      @@ouch110 Oh my god! Finally got a decant of Memoir as am exploring leathers, and it is DIVINE. So beautiful, it reminds me of Poison and Opium (though not the same), and I am compltely intoxicated. A lot of leathers I've tried are very beautiful, but elegant and poised (not me at all, haha!), and I love that Memoir has more of an edge. Leather jacket and biker boots, kick ass, like you say.
