When I fly to USA the first leg is about 13-14hrs and then another one or two flights depending on where I am going, so it can be around 24 hours til I get to my destination

5:38 "gesture" pronounced wrong, that was the pun.. that was a foolish "gesture".. Some people NEVER catch/get that joke.. possibly the best one of the whole skit.
Some of the best live/skit TV in Oz history was "The Paul Hogan Show"..

At the time that Hoges referred to, the Oscars used to be fully televised, starting with the technical awards, and building up to the top five: Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Picture, several hours later. Everyone was either drunk or yawning by that time.
All the earlier minor award winners gave long involved thank you speeches. So by the middle, music cues would start halfway through a brief speech. The final five winners had only a few seconds to say thanks before the ‘get off the stage’ music started.

Fyi the hard "g" in "gesture" isn't an Aussie thing, it was a joke following the phrase "one wrong word"

To be honest, this is the first time I've heard "gestya" instead of gesture. Either Paul Hogan pronounces it wrong or he made a mistake because he was stressed and under presure to deliver the lines without stuffing up, which he nearly did a couple of times. But overall, it was a good speech.

Before Crocodile Dundee Paul Hogan used to have his own tv show which was so funny . What you see in this speech is what he was like on his tv show . It always seemed like he was just making it up as he went along . I haven’t seen any of the episodes since so it’s probably dated really badly and it certainly was never political correct anyway . That’s probably why they haven’t repeated it . I haven’t looked on CZcams to see if any eps are available because I don’t won’t to spoil the memories of how much we all loved the show at the time here in Australia.

Do yourself a favour and look up some of the old Paul Hogan Show videos. Would get thrown of TV nowadays for being totally unPC but it’s what this stuffy, uptight, don’t offend world needs!
