Erik Ask-Upmark playing an organetto, or portative organ, built in 1999 by Andreas Brauner. The tunes are Lamento di Tristano and La Rotta, two late 14th century Italian dance tunes.
It is said the organ traces it's roots back to the 3rd century BC Rome. And seeing the prints of the era showing such instruments is amazing to consider the technology back then!
@@almishti they weren't water powered, they were the same size of this and just used water to regulate the input pressure into the pipes for consistency throughout pumping.
@@DrDingsGaster I'm considering an attempt at making one. Well, several actually, in increasing levels of complexity and finish. Start with a bellows and two pipes and work my way up from there.
The San Francisco Bay Area being multi-colored and a mixture of everything, I wonder if the organetto would be sold somewhere in the Bay Area? Call the local universities & colleges and ask their music departments. Ask the local music instrument stores.
I live near Toulouse, in southern France, I would like to buy a medieval organetto. Can you tell me if you know someone who would like to sell one in Toulouse or its région. Please tell me and send me an email. Thanks a lot. I hope to read you soon. Have a good day.
What an absurd little instrument. Sounds neat, but it looks a little awkward to play. I wonder how much more playability one would achieve by replacing the bellows with a bellow-and-bag setup that you hold under the arms or pump with your foot like a set of uilleann pipes. Would probably get smoother phrasing. For an instrument with such a soft tone and drones, it feels kinda jarring whenever it stops.
The little organ that could! It sounds incredible
That's so cool! It sounds like a gentle bagpipe
It's so crazy how people have come up with ao many different types of instruments
Uniquely great & innovative organetto, portable organ or accordion prototype... Thank & may thanks sir... 🙏

iirc, the earliest organs were invented in Syria by Hellenistic Greeks, water-powered, but yes around the 3rd century BC.

I love it! I'm sorry to bother you but...can you tell me where can I buy an instrument like this? Thank you.
Same here.... I desperately want one.
