    This is the video I watched just before reaching out.
    Like so many others, I completely relate to what you say about the frustration and ongoing limitations in my voice in spite of working at it for a ridiculous amount of time consistently. I can attest to the fact you share here about doing exercises for hours every day for years and learning things on an intellectual level has no transformative effect. Zero.
    About 8 years ago I bought one of Brett Manning's courses. It came with one skype session with one of his coaches, which in my case happened to be Tyler Wysong. More recently, like a couple years ago, i got one of Tyler's courses as well, but apart from yourself Tyler was the only cocal coach I had actually spoken to directly.
    Tyler was awesome. Brett's knowledge is great as well. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about either.
    Through your fundamentals, vowel modification, and mix courses (which sums up what i have been focused on thus far), I am doing exercises to get the sensation of one continuous voice, and am applying it to songs. Surprisingly, that was an element i had missed from the other instructors , even though I am sure everyone makes that suggestion.
    I have gone from thinking there is something wrong with my voice to thinking there is something wrong with my brain. I can do la lay, ma ma muh, may mey miy, koo, gee, blah blah from C4 up to E5 and down again morning noon and night. Then I work at a song like bed of roses and have absolutely no power from d4 to a4 no matter what I alter in my vowel sounds. Its connected, but there is a significant drop in power in that middle range. And then suddenly I accidentally have power and fullness that literally sounds like my chest voice but is much higher than I have come to believe is possible for me. I dont know what specifically changes when those moments happen, whether it is tongue position, airflow or what. But I will continue plugging away, and those moments will just become the defautlt. At least I know it can be done - even by me.

      It's time to meet and work on our next steps my man! So, if you can sing an AY vowel through your full range up to E5 - you can sing any word that is comprised of an AY vowel anywhere along that slide (in theory!) - so, try the slides on words like Hey, Yeah, Say, Pay - then, bridge it out to the variants like OE, so, "healer" as an example. The key here is to apply what you're practicing directly into the songs and BAM you'll have it every single time. K

    I bought a few.
    I would say from the 2 most popular coaches you see in YT. Didn’t finished them.
    I bought yours about a month ago or so. Very nice and I went through it completely. I think I tend to go back to singing with tracks then go back to my old habits. Same then what I do in tennis🤦‍♂️. I need to find a better way to practice.
    I’m currently having weekly courses with a local coach. I’m progressing but not on the high notes side. The solution is always to tune down sings. Which it is not what I want to do. Teacher said 2 things:
    Why people always want to sing stuff outside their range? When the song was written it was not challenging for the author because it was in their range. So you should stick with yours.
    And : you might be able to do this one day but not now.
    And I never heard anything regarding vowel modification in those courses… and neither with my preceding teacher too. Instead I was pushed towards Frank Sinatra songs 😂😂😂

      I hear you man - one of my first teachers told me "I would never sing anything but Johnny Cash"... I'd like to think I've proved otherwise ha. I'd like to think this is also showing you otherwise in our sessions... none of these songs are written for my voice at all, we have similar voices. It's telling that neither course utilised vowel modification, and that they didn't help you progress - it really is the key to progressing in many cases ha.

      Yes. And like I said I need to find a better way to practice.
      Did the other courses I bought talked about vowels modification? One did, but not what and how. Just to change at the top.
      That being said, I do all this to have fun. If a course is boring and progress comes over 2 years (or never), I will quit.
      Last Saturday I had one session where we went over a song I need to learn…. The final answer was drop it from G to D. At that point I had 2 things in mind.
      1- this is not for me and I’ll go back playing PlayStation 😂
      2- teacher does not understand me and I’m going to stop those lessons. On the other side I still improve on other aspects.

    im back with the same issue, i've tried widening vowels, but it does seems to make my high range thicker....... here's an example czcams.com/video/eXjVLIyr4cg/video.html (this was a result of recording many takes, but usually after singing for 15-20 mins of constant high songs i tend to loose the thickness in my high range, i can still hit them in mix voice but its not thicker or chestier as they say)

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio  Před 10 měsíci +4

      The key to singing high with a full tone isn't to widen the vowel - in many cases, you have to sing slightly towards a closed vowel to ring the vowel out. You'll also never hear me saying chesty mix either - the key is to sing the right vowel in the right way. At :51, you're literally singing "i" in "rising" - this isn't the right vowel to begin with, so you can't "thicken" it. Sing AA or AH instead - it sounds about an A4 to ear, so narrow up into the higher pitch on an AY vowel. So, r-AA-s-AY-ng modified as AW and IH instead of "rye-zing" like you're singing here. Best - K

      @@FoundationVocalStudio hmm, i get it with the 'rising' part, i cant literally sing 'I' on an A4..... umm....what about the 'does the crowd understand' part, i find it really hard to sing 'crowd' so high, and in the original song when he sings 'does the crowd understand' , it sounds so hecking powerful, is it related to vocal placement? is he placing it forward?

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I'd also go for an AA sound like cr-AA-d and modify it either as UH or AW depending on where it sits for you. He's supporting it well, you seem to collapse in that upper range and push up, which splits the folds and just results in air and a lighter sound. Support OUT from the mid section instead of clenching your abs - and yes, he's singing forward of course, but, this doesn't mean you literally "sing forward" - you're having an issue getting the vowel to sit correct in the back, so, sing BACK, but do it with a treble tone. Ironically I think that your before video resembles chris cornells style of singing more
    I think it's because he wasn't so perfect and technical and clean in his approach that it made his vocals so unique and heavy

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio  Před 3 měsíci

      The problem being, I couldn't hit even a quarter of the range Cornell could hit in his prime - my voice blew out after two songs, and I couldn't speak for a week after a show. If you're talking Audioslave era, then sure, his singing was awful - but if you're talking prime Cornell - Louder than Love, Temple of the Dog, Bad Motor Finger, his singing WAS clear and spot on for the most part. My singing now is lightyears closer to how he was actually singing at that point now than it was in the 'before' example, not that I think I 'sound' anything like Cornell, nor is that my goal. As an example outside voice coaching - czcams.com/video/y_2SQ4Bs__g/video.htmlsi=rkILR8RU0Bh79Zrr&t=199
      But, horses for courses - you dig the rough, strained, awful, out of tune, squeaking, breaking singing and that's totally fine. I'm much happier actually being able to hit the notes and get through a show, and to able to explain and demonstrate how and why that's also possible for others.
      Best,
      K

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio  Před 4 měsíci +1

      There's two elements missing here - #1, the vowel has to match the pitch. Meaning, connecting head and chest voice isn't just a physical thing, you've got to use your vowel to make it full. #2 you need closure while you do so. Ergo, you have a vowel or closure issue most likely. K

    Yea that’s me….your entire intro describes me to a T! 30 years I’ve been trying for mixed voice or extending chest voice with zero results. I can’t sing past a forced G#4 to save my life. Now I’m 50 and I am desperate to find my top with mixed voice but I just can’t get the concept down. I’ve tried them all….Brett Manning, Ken Tamplin, Eli Prinsen, Jonas Kaufmann….even had a halfhearted lesson with the late Luciano Pavarotti! I am at my wits end. I’ve certainly become a pretty decent singer in my low voice but not having an easy top range is holding me back from reaching my full potential as a singer.

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio  Před měsícem

      So, I'd say 'mixed voice' isn't really the solution you're looking for. With the aesthetic you're looking for, vowel modification is definitely more the missing link, and likely your desired tone. In fact, I've moved away from really using the term 'mixed' for this exact reason. There's a video on CZcams somewhere of Pavarotti demonstrating a covered sound, and he clearly modifies the structure of the vowel while doing so, expertly - there's more to this than you might realise. Without having heard you, I believe the tone you're going for/expecting is 9/10's of the issue you're experiencing. Luciano, and even Jonas aren't "putting on" that voice, it's a result of their technique and the style choices they're using. You seem to have disgust towards rock singing in particular, I feel this is actually part of the problem. I've seen Pavarotti sing with Bon Jovi and even Dolores O'riordan from the Cranberries - I wonder how he felt towards rock singing? Seems to be joy and openness more than anything. This is an important observation, because you're desperate not to sound like a rock singer EVER, however, this is pulling you in a direction away from what your favourite singers are really doing. Pavarotti sings bright, often with closed vowels in the higher range, and yes even front vowels in many cases, and predominantly with a cry/CT controlled pitch - let me guess, you're putting on a dark covered OH sound, trying to open everything up as much as possible, and trying to singing everything as a back vowel and pushing up with your support? Diametrically opposed choices to the ones your favourite singers are actually making, and funnily enough, the exact advice I'm giving here on the channel - but you pull in the other direction because I sing rock. Use a cry in the tone (like Pavarotti) shift your vowels to OE or IH respectively for back and front vowels (like Jonas) around the G4 and raise your tongue in the back like EVERY classical singer worth their salt does - don't slam that sucker down. I feel Eli would have given you much of the same advice I'm giving you, yes? But again, he's a rock singer - so you pull in other direction. He's a fantastic singer, and really knows what he's doing as a teacher - even if the aesthetic isn't there for you. So my friend, take the advice, and apply it to your own references - or, find a teacher than specialised in references that you would enjoy if that makes you happier. There's tons of Opera references on Danny Formica's channel - he would be my personal pick to work with if I were in your position/looking to sing what you want to sing. Best - K
