Glad to see you like them mate, after 12+ months using Tannus I wont go back to tubeless.. Best way to describe Tannus is its like having progressive Travel in your tyres. Another important thing to note in regs to weight weenies, yes these may add a little weight (Very minimal) but the added rolling speed, faster lines through tech and increased corner momentum they will in fact be riding faster..
Agreed I was really impressed with the performance.. really worthwhile. Weight would be an issue if you are chasing max speed on steep climbs as you are not going fast enough to benefit from rolling really. But everything else that would be great. I'm riding a 170mm Rocky Mountain Slayer so climb speed was never my main concern :)
Thanks Mick. This is the first installation demo and review of Tannus Armour I’ve seen, and it was really useful. I like your presentation style. I have a selection of different types of bikes and have been running Schwalbe Marathon Plus on most of them but wanted to try something different on my Marin DSX 2 and this looks good. Whatever I ride, I just have to have extra puncture protection for my tyres, because I hate getting flats on cold wet days, especially in the dark. Cheers!
I completely agree that tire inserts, especially the Tannis Armor, create a more durable tire casing for your thinner wall light weight tires. The reason I was thinking of getting a pair of the Tannis Armor was for the flat protective values as well as the low pressure advantage for better traction. I was also considering using a tube that has sealant or adding sealant to tube. For something even more durable perhaps a Tubalito tube. Just a thought
Good review. I also changed over from Cushcore, after suffering a tyre sidewall cut on trail, and hearing about the Tannus Armour (TA) from you. I have even hit my rim a handful of times onto rocks with the tubes+TA inside...and no punctures!...not sure I want to be doing that and pressing my luck, but it sure works well. Just need to find the right pressure for my weight (17psi front, 20psi rear at the moment). The 'damp' ride also takes the harshness out of rocky terrain.
What you don't mention are the 'maintenance' suggestions that because the foam compresses, you should deflate the tyres when not used (between rides?!) even remove them and have a steamy shower with them! WTF! 😲

Anyway, since you've been running these Tannus Armour for a good 2 years now, how do you find the rolling resistance, especially for riding uphill? Are you still riding with Tannus Armour tube protection for front and rear or just the rear?
Good review mate. I've read that these are not the best for cross country or tarmac due to rolling resistance. Do you agree? I hate getting flats and I am willing to put up with some resistance if it is not too much. Thoughts?

This tannus armour seems very similar to what I've been doing for tube protection for years. I usually use a gutted thorn proof tube around my air tube. FYI, it's better to for your air tube inside your armour first and then fit the armour into your tube. Like that, you reduce any risk of damaging your air tube upon installation. It's also let fiddly and a little quicker. One question about the tannus armour. How hard is the compound they use? Does it block metal shrapnel well? Because despite my system working well against thorn, glass and other random debris, I'll occasional get defeated by metal shards, screws and one time, a key.
I think you need to find a new route to ride your bike, sounds like you're riding though a battle field ... Perhaps you want to know if they're bullet proof too?

Just curious, I ride a surly LHT with Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB tires. Am doing the GDMBR NOBO this year. Really scared of goathead thorns in New Mexico and southern Colorado. I will not be doing anything remotely close to what you do, I just want to be as flat free as possible! Do you think the Tanus would work for that? Thanks.
I doubt the thorns will go through the tire and the foam, but you might consider sealant inside a tube as well as the Tannus foam, just be sure to research the tube compatibility with the sealant. This combination could be the best of all worlds and offer some peace of mind. Just a thought.

Love my Tannus Armour inserts, when I go bike riding, I like to go bike riding not a sudden interruption of my day dealing with a damn flat.
I love the way they ride haven't had to test against flats yet but the performance is great.

Just had them put in my mongoose ledge X229 er haven't tested them out too well yet but seem really good😊

I've read that some people have the inserts from tannus become flat on the center bit making it useless, how are your experiences?

currently around 18 front and 22 rear but still experimenting a bit
Lose some weight that is the cheapest weight saving you can get.
