I also did this but found that the edges on the cut tire used as a liner caused holes in the inner tube eventually. I suggest wrapping the cut tire in an old inner tube to protect it from the rough edges of the cut tire that is used as liner.
I really enjoyed this video! I am over 60 and cannot drive a car because of macular degeneration. a bicycle is my only transportation. I am always getting flats because of this spikey burr that is on my alley. i have been looking for something like this! Thank you for sharing this! Keep up the good work!
Hi Roger! I was diagnosed with macular degeneration about two months ago. The exam report said something about my being in the 12% range which I didn't look up. They prescribed a very expensive vitamin combination called PreserVision Areds 2 that is $37 for a bottle of 120 soft gels that is supposed to slow it down. I don't notice any visual effect yet. They gave me the brochure with the checkered pattern test to be alert of change and go to ER if the pattern skews. I see halos around lights at night but was told that's my cataracts gradually forming. For the macular degeneration now they want me back in 9 months instead of the former 12. The doctor was in a hurry as always and went. Is the 12% range mean it's all minor? I made copies of the brochure to mail to all of my siblings. Our late mother had it and had the laser treatment at about age 86 and never had it at 68. I have no driving restrictions but can't afford a car and commute by bike and city bus. I'm thinking it's hereditary. Is that true? I know this doesn't relate to bikes but thought I'd ask. I am concerned about it on and off and get into denial. I take Alreds two times a day as prescribed. By the way, did you hear that swish sound when Mike Fede did the ride test with the Armour guard installed? Have you used it?
It's good to see the over 60s people riding bikes. Ebikes or pedal assist bikes are great for the older folks. Cars are borderline slavery these days. Not even borderline, they make you a slave. A bike is freedom. 👍
@@datner76 Hi Nick! You're right on! I had to junk my car with 280,000 miles on it in 2017. I had been commuting by bike and sometimes 2 weeks would pass and I didn't use it and also took a lot of people in my Senior high-rise shopping, Dr. appts, ER etc as random acts of kindness. Once I didn't have a car I lost all my friends and had a great feeling of liberation not owning a car. I can't be places I want to be sometimes but really an overall great feeling of liberation. I hear some bicyclists say, "I'm car free!" ha!
We recently bought two new extremely heavy Riese and Muller E-bikes from Germany sporting Schwalbe tires and took them on a 200km journey. We got three flats and had to end the trip about 10km's from home in the back of a van. Fitted the Tannus liners and have since done nearly 2000kms in two months with zero flats so far. Can't recommend these bad boys enough
looks like a pretty good thing for beginners to have for sure. when i first started in my first month i had like 4 flats and 2 of them happened in a single day. awesome video 👍
You could put a couple of tire liners and it will protect the tube. Either that or I would flex seal the inside of the tire wall for some better sealing
It'd be good to see you do some runs on a MTB trail, then try again with these things and see if it makes any difference for comfort and that sort of thing
Interesting; I’m thinking of trying these for my dirt jumper and MTB as well. Pricey, but worth it, if they perform. Cool tricks, too. I’d have liked to see the same tricks after drilling it.
I used Tannus Armour on my front and rear tires and still got flats. One of the flats was caused by a small metal shaving. The Tannus Armour is thick but it compressed down to about 1/4 of an inch after I rode the bike a few hundred miles. I was not able to ride a short distance with a flat tire as Tannus advertises. Riding with a flat tire would have damaged the rim. Since putting on Schwalbe MARATHON PLUS MTB HS 468 mountain bike tires, I have ridden over 4,000 miles without a flat. They are thick enough to not get a flat if an object as long as a tack is stuck in the tire. I also used the compressed Tannus Armour inside the Schwalbe tires for extra protection. The Schwalbe MARATHON PLUS MTB HS 468 mountain bike tires are much heavier than standard tires, but the protection is worth it to me.
@@michaeljohn7467 I have had Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB tires on my mountain bike for about a year and a half. I have ridden over 4,000 miles without any flats. They are thick enough to prevent flats from objects the length of a tack. I also have used the Tannus Armour at times for extra protection. I also cut the stem out of an old inner tube, and put it between the inside of the tire and the inner tube that is inflated instead of using the Tannus Armour.
Anthony panza can probably do that trick but I’ve been a big fan for a while, I really like your vids. That tire protection will be really good for my bmx tho , I ride threw a lot of glass and thorns so it’ll help a lot with less punctures on my inner tube
Back in the 80s, I had those pool noodle tubes for my BMX. There were issues though... Pedalling was a lot harder and the ride was quite uncomfortable.
Back in the 1990s i had similar product on my bike it was called Mr Tuffies tyre linner and it was great, before I was going through a least 1 to 3 tubes a week and after I fitted the tyre linners no more puchers .
UPDATE. I knew I read it somewhere, so I got out my Tannus installation guide and on page 3 under Tips For Installing Tannus Armour it states (It is common for the Amour to compress over time. It still is providing shock absorption and puncture resistance but will perform better when properly maintained. To minimize compression deflate the tires while not use. This allows the Armour compound to rebound to provide ideal performance.) So does that mean when your not riding your bike, your suppose to let the air out of the tires? I'm sorry but that's not happening. I don't know how everyone else feels, but if I would have known that earlier, I would not have purchased the Armours.
I had a problem with goat head thorns here in Spain so I chopped up a 10mm thick yoga mat into 2" strips for liners, squirted in some anti puncture fluid to, now I go anywhere & the cost to do 2 26" bikes was 16€
Is the swish sound I'm hearing the friction or rubbing between the protective material and the inside of the tire, meaning is that a tradeoff is it creates a loud swishing sound? Also, how would it work in Minnesota winters? Also did the tire pass the flat test maybe several hours later with a very slow leak?
Hi Mike. I enjoy your videos. I tried a set of these and it completely changed the way my bike felt. It felt heavy and sluggish and I removed them immediately. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t imagining this. Do you run these on a regular basis?
Hey! I run them on my other bike, but my main bike for park I don’t. I can notice a little difference in weight, only because I run a light setup. I think their good for a street rider for sure.
I would love to win. The thing is, im new to bmx and I laced my wheel myself and in doing so my tube was pierced by the spoke so it may not be useful so since I just subbed would you reccomend this or airless tubes?
This vs slime vs "bacon strips" What would be better for fixing a hole if needed? Then style of helmets. I bought a good full face for dh and found out it's not rated for it. Maybe talk about what to look for in a quality product.
Those green slime innertubes with a schwalbe marathon keeps me pretty puncture free. To prove the point when the farmers cut the hedges by me i get around eight punctures on average I've not had one.
Found you from the Ariel Rider video you made. Did you put these on the X-Class? They have 20x3.0-4.0 and 20x4.0-4.8 listed so it's right in the middle.
Wheel of misfortune Was definitely a fun one. More regular riding will be coming soon. Just then really cold and trying to schedule more time has been difficult who is business being so busy. Thanks again for the support and check back daily for new videos bro!
Thank you most definitely will! Keep up the good content need to maybe meet up with Scotty when it gets warmer maybe do a video on his Chanel miss seeing the old crew ripping at incline. Maybe Scotty will have to go to your local and do a video !
If were throwing numbers i havent had a single flat since switching to effetto sealant a few years back. Light tyres too. Stans was just separating and leaving orange liquid in the wheel and no sealant in place. Effetto lasts a good 3 months before it needs a topup. Would like some more burp security though, just not at these weights.
I remember in my teens we used to put old bold BMX tires by cutting off the wire parts of the tire before putting the thinner tire inside the fat tires.

Pretty decent product if one doesn't wanna go full non-pneumatic for whatever reason. One thing however was completely left out of your video or even a ballpark was the cost of that product. I would love to get a set for my ebikes but there's no mention of any other size than your 20". I would need a 12" and 14" for mine so I will have to do the digging myself and that is something I don't mind. As far as your riding skills and given talents...you make it look effortless and dynamic. So am I eligle to win one of those Amour things? I liked, shared and given you a 4-star review. Thanks Dave. The Tannus liner will compress under pressure and be thinner but denser. However, I had a Maxxis Hookworm tyre with the Tannus Liner PLUS a heavy duty narrow tyre liner inside that and a 4mm dia stick on a cycleway went straight through the lot and flatted. I'm now on Schwalbe Marathon E-Plus Performance Courier tyres. So let's see how they go. I'm sick of flats on the street. None in the bush though.. go figure.
A trick I use to do, was cut the tread off an old Tyre and it fit inside my bike tyre which thorn proofed the wheel.
I also did this but found that the edges on the cut tire used as a liner caused holes in the inner tube eventually. I suggest wrapping the cut tire in an old inner tube to protect it from the rough edges of the cut tire that is used as liner.
Or you could melt the rubber with heat and then smooth the edge when it's hot
@@WeAreNotAmused I made my own flat proof wheel lol
I did the same when I was young
Now can just buy a tannus insert

Just wait until the tannus thins out and becomes useless! Only lasts a month
Just use flat out for $5 per tire and you can drill into innertube with quarter inch drill bit and still ride it home
I used that product and I got a puncture first time out down a track. The supplier kindly sent me a replacement which was very honourable.

Yes it was nice to see the drill go halfway, but I would also use flatout kevlar sealant

awesome moonwalk reverse! haha. This might be a pretty useful product, considering that I've punctured a few tubolitos ...
